how did you connect all those carriges because i have the four car set and on both sides of the carriges are female couplings and if i buy new carriges they will be female as well wont they oh and absolute fab layout 5*
@hornbyboy100 Be carefull what you buy. You need R4013C Divisible coaches which do not have the grill at one end. If you can find any as they seem hard to find again. They come in packs of 2 one with a female coupling the other with a male. Unclip the middle of your train. Then the end of an R4013C with the clip goes onto the end coach with the grill The same with the second coach so you have a male and female coupling in the middle of the train. Then you can add as many R4013C as you like :)
There is one carrage less than you counted :) The real trains are actualy 2 x 9 coach sets plus loco coupled back to back so that they can be taken apart in an emergency and one half driven out of the tunnel
I see, class 395's details are much better than class373's because 373 is more than a decade old product. But I am surprised that Hornby renew it to the DCC ready form. It's pity that 373 still has no LED light. Ha, I found someone sell 373's pantograph on ebay. That's great!
That's great Yea You will soon have a smart power car again I think Hornby are making all locos DCC ready from now on and all brand new ones seem to come with a choice of a fitted version as well
you means Class 373 has DCC chip socket now? I have Class 373 too but it is the second hand one which is old version. I have big problem on it because all of the pantographs are damaged. :(
Yes they stopped making it but now it is back again DCC ready and they have also brought out the brand new Javlin train which shares the same route from London St Pancras to Ashford near the tunnel entrance That train comes DCC ready or ready chipped and does have lights They run as 6 car sets and they have brought out extra cars to add to the 4 car set It is well detailed and runs very well I have had a drive of one in the model shop I go to. I hope you can get a spare pantograph
OK Well that will be the next thing I will try and maybe chip the locos as well although they now make the power cars DCC ready they still do not have lights fitted which is a real shame
Yeah...That's why my Thalys PBKA set with two power cars are already DCC fitted. Did you remove the traction tire? I did it in my Thalys set because traction tires also cause the high prob. of derailment.
I have not tried that Did you have to change the wheels because there is a goove in the wheels with a traction tyre usualy and I have tried on another loco but it caused it to derail so I refitted them untill I got new wheels I have never liked the tyres idea they collect a lot of dirt It is better to weight to loco instaed
cool, you use two power car! did you add the dcc chip on it? somebody told me that two power car on DC system could not push the train simultaneously. sometimes it causes derailment.
Although I have DCC fitted locos the Eurostar still runs on normal DC If I run it any faster it does tend to derial but that is really because of my layout having a tight curve and gradient in the tunnel. When I have used 2 lococ on DCC I have not had any problems Infact they tend to run at the same speed better than with DC so if you were to fit a Eurostar it would probably work better than mine does
The Divisable saloons are available as a seperite item so I bought enough to make a full length train I also bought a second set so I have 2 actual power cars like the real ones have Otherwise it would be too heavy for the single power car
I agree the models made are pretty accurate in detail What I would like though is some buffet cars and 2nd class coaches to make a proper formation In N gauge Kato have recently reintroduced their set which is very good
There are 2 systems The old way using a 12 volt DC control which controls one train at a time The speed depends on how many volts are put into the track and the new DCC system where 18 volts AC is always on the track and each train has a micro chip With this system you control the speed of each train on the track and the direction electronicly and it is possible to run many trains together at different speeds and directions
Yes it does but I have 2 actual power cars One can pull the full train but it is very heavy so I think you would need 2 to make sure I have had a look at your layout and think with the setup you have a full set of 20 would look great speeding by My layout is not very wide so the corners are rather tight for running at speed with the full train
Although my layout is based in the mid 70's to around 1980 after riding the on the real Eurostar I just had to buy one. It is such a great train. The model will not run often but will live in a dispaly case with my GNER White Rose set which I was also lucky to ride on to London and back before they were withdrawn
The best train I have ever riden The level of comfort is far higher than the UK intercity trains I got 2 Eurostar 6 car sets. I needed 2 power cars to haul this set round my layout, and managed to find a White rose and center coaches on Ebay
I hope you find lots of enjoyment from your new hobby I use Peco flexitrack and points When I bought the Eurostar I had to hunt all over to find the middle cars A couple of months after I found the last pair Hornby reintroduced them. I would have had no hesitation buying from Hattons They only advertise what they have in stock and send items very quickly well packed. My Eurostar is not DCC fitted, I bought it more for display after riding the real thing My layout is based from 74 to 80
P.S my trains will be the full car layout however even with one powercar do you think it will be ok it will only be running on a near straight track and a slow turn follows do you think it will move
One power car will be able to pull a full train on staight level track but at the model shop they have had 2 motors burn out on theirs recently with only a 6 car set, so I would recomend having 2 actual power cars to ease the load The full train is pretty heavy. I did try mine with one power car and 14 on. That was the limit on my layout with the sharp curves I have at the ends where the tunnels are
Hornby do not sell the power car as a seperate item so I would suggest looking for one on ebay where I have seen the odd one being sold. Just be careful you check out it is in good condition The way I did it was to buy an unboxed 4 car set from Hattons which was not too costly and brand new OK it is a bit of a waste but the spare cars could be sold on ebay if you wanted to do that to cut your costs
Yes it is going to be pretty costly but the sight of 2 full trains passing will be great I built my layout a while ago and had to modify part of it to get the Eurostar through the curved platform so it only runs on the outside line That is something you will have to check for when you get yours
The real railways had the same problem as me Eurostar is wider than UK trains You can see the overhang above the edge of the platform at Vauxall for instance in my Eurostar film Also the sides of them are vertical unlike UK trains which are inclined slightly
I currently have a 14 car set but i have found my power car really struggles, I would also love to get the resturant cars, or get some centre cars repainted,
My Eurostar has 2 actual power cars and they also struggle round part of the layout The tunnel is on a gradient and curve so I have sometimes had problems with derailments as the front of the train slows and the rear car pushes the middle of the train rides over the top of the rail As long as it is diven at about the speed in the film it runs fine and I am sure without the curved gradient there would be no problem Now Eurostar is getting popular I am hoping Hornby will produce the other cars too
wow!!! nice railway!! is that yours? wow it looks really realistic. i got a railway but its rubbish compared to that. can u do a video like a tour of the whole layout so i can see wot it all looks like. superb lol
Yes that is my railway At the moment there is still lots to do I began to rebuild a large part of it a few years ago but progress has been slow It was all fully signalled but with less detail Now I am concentrating more on the scenery and hope to put more clips on and with better lighting too I have been making models for many years not just trains. It is the small details that count and I spend a lot of time looking at photos of the real thing and try to copy as much as I can in the model
Making the model buildings is what I like to do as well. I fit them out inside which I enjoy doing but it does take a lot of time I will make some film of some of them sometime
Thanks The Hornby Eurostar center coahes have been out of production for a while but with the opening of the St Pancras International HS1 link they were reintroduced and I have been able to complete a full 20 car set althought my modeling period is before they were introduced I could not resist adding this to my collection it is an outstanding train.
