I just removed a mirror using a heat gun and shims. With enough heat I was able to continue inching the shims further behind the mirror and eventually release the glue and the mirror was still in 1 piece this way.
it is not uncommon to mastic a mirror to the wall. They make plungers to remove and install glass, you could have used one of those to take it out, i do it everyday! your way looked like a struggle but it did work just fine O' well next time!!!
This method was PERFECT. I did LOTS of research and the other options were so complicated. I took it off in ten minutes, including putting on the contact paper- on a mirror four times that size. Thanks!
aw man thats the wimpy way. I just put on some safety glasses and bashed it dead center with a hammer. I tossed the big pieces in the trash and vacuumed the chips with a shop vac. piece of cake
I looked this up cause I am needing to place two large mirrors on my gym wall.. they are very heavy.. but I don't know how much exactly.. (got them really cheap) so I have to do the work myself.. they are like 5 feet by 3.. do you suggest the same procedure?
hey thanks all for the kind words . when hanging a mirror the key is to have the lower bracket screws in a stud or a real good molly. you all might like to check out our Gardenfork site and viewer forum. thx, eric.
i enjoyed this immensley, LOL< that doughnut was a tease for all the diabetic viewers out there. Sam, looks like an intelligent dog, reminds me of a cow herder...

also using a string or dental floss and going behind the mirror with it could losen up the mirror off the wall

hmm. if they are heavy they should be in a frame, and then you can mount the frame on the wall using heavy duty hangers. be careful. thx, eric.
