I remembr Batch as a Senior at Eastern Michigan whjen they came up 2 MT> Pleasant Michigan 2 play my Chippewas at Central Michigan, and CMUs Defense beat the shit outta Batch in that game, and I thought they were gonna ijnure him! They didnt, and his Eastern tema came from down 24-3, only 2 come back and win 31-24. This was back in 97
First question: who the hell is Jeff Fox? Second question: What team is he playing for there? Don't recognize the uniform. Oh, and some advice for future Lions quarterbacks: don't pick the numbers 19, 16, 14, 10 and 12. Nobody who's worn those numbers has worked out and you don't wanna be the next on that list, do ya? lol
@uofm97 He was an NFL Europe allocation who was Holland born but played in the US for Grand Valley State in Division II. His college coach is presently the Head coach for Notre Dame. The Team uniform is from one of the German Football League teams unsure which one.
@iHelpUwithiPods It is an old post created in 4:3 rather than 16:9 aspect ratio also there was a hard 10 minutes time limit, so it cuts off sharply. I might post version 2.0 after the super bowl.
Wow, our best Quarterback in 40 years is probably Erik Kramer, with Scott Mitchell taking second place. On the bright side Ford shouldn't live too much longer. As for Stafford he will be most likely the first QB to have a winning record in the season. As he will be 1-0. Terrific.
Worst move they made was getting rid of Charlie Batch! They haven't been to the playoffs since. Seriously, Batch could have been (and in my mind is) the Joe Montana of our generation! Anybody remember that 2000 Thanksgiving game?
@davepangburn Crack need not be smoked. Who holds virtually all Eastern Michigan passing records? Who entered the NFL and shattered Dan Marino rookie records? Who was the 2000 Tday Iron man winner? Who is the last QB to lead Detroit to a playoff birth? And finally.. Who is undefeated as a starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers? I'll give you a hint, his first name is Charlie, he's the Steelers player representative, and he throws a Batch of Touchdowns everytime he starts a football game.
@1222web I agree i dont know about the Montana part. But they shoulda kept Batch. He was really starting to click the Offensive. I still have his jersey
@Caligula42 Yeah I always preach the Batch Choir a bit heavy lol. But in reality, I agree with you, he was far better than every QB they started the previous decade, but to be somewhat far to Millen... which I hate to do... Batch did have injury problems. But the kid could play, and put up better numbers those years - when he did play - than the other guys drafted in his class... Including some guy named Payton.
@1222web youre a fucking dumb ass. one game a career does not make. you sound like Joe Theisman when he said "I think the Lions are better without Barry Sanders, it gives them more options"
@Doug19752533 Seems like you are a bit to interested in ass fucking. That's cool if you're homosexual and all, but I am not. Thanks, and good day to you.
jeff komlo sadly was killed in a car crash about a year ago in some other ctry. He was on the America's most wanted list(TV show) I forget what he did wrong.
what the lions DESPERATLEY need: an o line and a d line, i say defense is more important for them, if the rams dont take suh then the lions should or if the rams DO take suh get okung or mccoy (not the UT qb)
I have a confession to make to DETROIT LION NATION, I use to like Rodney Peete. I know why we went after one hit wonder Scott Mitchell (half a season with a good defense & a good O line with Miami), but at the time, I was mad when they released Peete. But of corse, Peete got his revenge in '95. Ya'll remember that playoff SUNAMI against the Eagles. Yep, Rodney Peete was the Eagles QB for that game. CLASSIC LIONS !!!
Kitna and Mitchell dominate the all time stats. What's more impressive is Kitna did it in 2 years and 4 games, where he was sacked constantly and carrying an inferior team
Jon Kitna-- 2nd and 3rd most yards in a season (4208 and 4068)
1st-most yards in a game 446
1st and 2nd most pass completions season
1st -completion percentage
1st- quarterback rating
1st- yards per attempt
The number don't lie--Jon Kitna was definitely best qb of all time for the Lions
Presently only Four teams have not been to the Super Bowl. Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, and the Detroit Lions. Barry Sanders got them to the 1991 NFC Championship game vs. the Mark Rypien's Washington Redskins.
@Metalfreakk19 yeah the lions are terrible now, but there are many reasons for that, and they're getting better now, of course it couldnt have gotten worse
Braunschweig Lions of the German Football Leauge, I think. Jeff Fox was born in Holland, played college ball in Division II here in the states. NFL-Europe had an exemption for non-American players, that may be part of why the lions picked him up. I know the uniform is worse than any thing they have to wear in NASCAR.
I think Eric Hipple could have been better on a more compeitive team. I still remember when Bucs LB Jeff Davis knocked him helmetless in an 1985 game.
The best were QBs Layne, Clark,Kramer and then Landry. (Kramer won a playoff game) Hopefully Stafford will overtake them. Honorable mention for Charlie Batch who started out 6-2 Includung a win over SB champs Rams )
The worst- Harrington, Chuck Long, Ware, Peete (One of the reasons we went 12-4 to 5-11) Mitchell (I throw 6 interceptions in playoff games) and Culpepper.
maligned- Kitna and Hipple (could've been decent had they had an OL, they got their asses kicked)
Bobby Layne was probably the best. Last player to not wear a face mask. Played ino the '60's with the Steelers. Lions were a great team in the early '60's without Layne. Shame that these were also the years Green Bay was just a little bit better.
Best 90's QBs was Dave Krieg, Erik Kramer, & Gus Frerotte. All 3 led us to the playoffs from terrible starts, but of course all was put out in the1st round. (Except for Kramer in '91, got a win against the Cowboys)
Batch wasn't too shabby either...In fact he led the Lions to a 6-2 start in 1999. Indeed Batch was a lot like Eric Hipple he got his ass thoroughly whumped because the OL couldn't protect him. In fact Stafford if he doesn't get an OL will be another Eric Hipple because throwing 5 touchdowns is impressive as a rookie but he can't hope to do it when he's always on his ass. Indeed we need an OL worse than anything...cause Defense is coming around.
I was doing a little research, and was actually amazed to find out that the LAST Detroit Lions coach to post a winning record in more than 30 years was Gary Moeller (4-3), who took over for Bobby Ross when he resigned.
Honestly - all of the "they suck" comments aside - what is WRONG with this organization? It's certainly not a lack of athletes. It can't be simply one miserable coach after another - can it? I mean, Mariucci (sp?) wasn't the GREATEST coach, but he wasn't the worst either.
I mistyped "Dave" rather than "Dan", sorry I was focusing too much on the "Orlovsky" part. I'm a horrible person, that doesn't desire to live. Thanks for posting.
Oh man ... this is painful. Almost as painful as watching the list of clowns Green Bay went through between Bart Starr and Brett Favre. Scott Mitchell - what a horrible signing that turned out to be.
Th Detroit Lions are the worst franchise in team sports and the graveyard for QB's They are going to ruin Stafford and he will get his tombstone in 3 years. Dave Kreig is the best QB the Lions ever had.
