I remember when I first saw this, Jojo was so cute! Still makes me laugh and smile. And I agree, the teacher is amazing. They are blessed to have such a wonderful man as an educator, and I'd say we are too... he was teaching these kids to be good people, better people... and that is not only good for them, but good for all of us :) as neighbors, if you will. Society needs great teachers like him.

this teacher is a good man. he is genuine, he is kind, he is considerate.

therefore i totally believe that had he got some money (as he deserved to have done) that he would have done something else that was good and beneficial to his pupils.

men like this guy come along only rarely. we need more people like him in this cold heartless world of ours.

The little boy, Jo-Jo is the cutest little darling, and the star of the film. He so wants to impress his teacher, and get away with doing as little work as possible.---trying to distract the teacher "I saw a wasp...!" He seems so small to be in school. The scenes with Jo-Jo are heart-breakingly delightful. They don't make kids like him anymore. Wonder what he is doing now. How has he grown up?

@mattmcgihon actually, if you read the french articles on this topic, mr. lopez had been offered a contract, promising him a part of the film's profits (present and future). this contract was breached, hence he tried fighting for his right.

This teacher is the most wonderful teacher because he is filled with patience, empathy, love, he invites children within, to feel safe there, and open their hearts, their souls, to grow as human beings, not only rational, but last and not least: emotional, to be grown up later, with the same attitude their teacher had: patience, empathy, love, inviting mankind to come in, to grow as mankind, needed for world peace.

yeah but he also demanded to be paid and took the film makers to court to try and get money even though he agreed when it was filmed that he wouldn't need to be paid. So hes also quite a greedy man.

Besides that: there are always rumours in the world, and I learned to take them for not more than that as long as I did not speak with the person himself, asking for the reasons, and listening to the answers.

We don't know how much he might have needed the money, and for what.

Nobody on earth is a saint, we are on our way to be it once...

And in the film, well, he stole my heart, and I don't ask him my heart back.....
