  • There is nothing secret about the world of the Geisha. This is just a typical way of observing Japan, as if it is something alien :P

  • Omfg did she just curled and pull her lashes at the same time? Ouch!

  • @aznzensation It almost looked like she was pulling them out

  • I have loved and respected Geisha for a long time. I just love learning about them, and their everyday life....I know this career choice is impossible for me (I'm not japanese, too old), but still, I can't help but wonder.........

  • Not all maiko have theyre onesan (big/elder siser) that is a geiko some one san is also older maikos or mroe senior maikos.

one san can be middle maiko, senior maiko, junior geiko senior geiko.

  • so someone like Blair or Bush...may just get in?...I'm no fan of these guys, but sounds like a very small cliental if they are that picky over customers!

  • @nickie74 The Tea houses make enough that they can be picky over who comes in and who doesn't!

  • I have been looking for this documentary for a while where did you find it. where can I get a dvd of it?

  • I really wish they wouldn't pluralize everything. There's no -s on Japanese words! It just sounds clumsy and ignorant.

  • on the second lash the left one it ain't her face that moved away

  • oh dear what did she do to her lashes??

  • isnt it dangerous for them to walk from teahouse to teahouse alone at night?

  • just wanted to tell that the plural-form of geisha is geisha (there shurely is no plural s) ^^

  • I knew of some people who went to Japan and to tea houses...they say the Geisha are walking works of art...so breath takingly beautiful, with the dancing and pouring the tea, and the kimono

  • This gives the serious, true insight and light to "geiko". Men were originally the entertainers. And the prostitutes were there just to make money. Edo period.

  • @Sareph1000 I think you're mixing two things, Geiko and Oiran.

Geiko are "entertainers", while Oiran are high class prostitutes. Often Geiko were hired to entertain the customers of Oiran while the Oiran prepñared herself, but the Geiko does not involve herself in sex

  • the harshness with which she treats herself. ._. I had never seen a geisha or maiko do her make-up like that...

  • bah! thats such a lie! ochaya are only for men.. please you can throw parties for a baby and have your whole family including women and children there.....

  • no it isn't, ochaya are for women too! it just happens men are more the customer because the geisha and maiko are women, but there is no sex or strip dances. and some women do go there, for the tradition and the entertainment just like the men do.

  • That's the reverse, because it's for men, the geisha are girls. Actually, the original geisha were men, so the first women to do it were called "women geisha" (or so I read).

Zashiki are still mostly attended by men it seems, but other events, bigger parties, seasonal dances etc have a large proportion (I think a majority) of women attending

  • @shishie4811, i know that women are allowed because I was privileged enough to go to one...and i'm a female.
