@KNBCLAN1 No, ESPN said "matchup of the year." Not "game of the year." There is a big difference. It was supposed to be #1 vs #2. Now neither team is ranked in the top two. Indiana-Kentucky turned out to be a better game because it literally came down to the last second.
I hate to tell you guys this but it may not be at the moment, but it is becoming a rivalry. For example look at USC/Notre Dame in football (maybe not recently but you get my drift.) My opinion number 2 and number 3 programs of all time. (It is proven overall that Oklahoma has the best all time resume if you add championships, all-americans, number 1 ranking, etc.) Anyway, just because is the best teams of all time doesn't mean it can't be a rivalry. They've played every year for the last decade.
Its not a rivalry, its a showcase game with the 2 biggest names and best programs in college basketball. Its a game where the players respect each other and love competing. Again its the big name game. It gets the people 2 watch with the two biggest and best fanbases in college hoops. This game shows them both how they stack up to each other. I love it. UK vs Lousville is a rivalry with coaches who HATE each other and U of L coached at UK and then UofL. I hate UofL. I respect UNC. big differenc
you don't become rivalry based on ranks. you become rivalries base on history. UK & UNC is not rivalry. Sure they're both top notch blue blood program, but it doesn't automatically qualify as rivalry. UK's rival is UL/Indiana/& TENN. UNC's rivalry is mostly Duke. Sure, UK & UNC CAN become rivalry, but its not there yet. Lets not argue anymore.

@fijithewater221 not even close to UNC's biggest game its important this season because of the ranking and such but this on most all years pales in comparison to the dook game may not like to hear that but it is what it is besides UK has louisville and indiana as more traditional rivals.
@fijithewater221 not even dook and UK have played about 19 times or so and UNC/UK about 34 times by contrast UNC/Duke have played 233 times or so not to mention distance culture there is much more to a rivalry then just being competitive at the time or two big time programs playing each other alot stuff goes into it imo........maybe it could become that one day but I doubt it will its simply a big time game between big time programs not everything has to be a rivalry.

UNC is one of the only teams to beat us more than we beat them I think that makes them a huge rival and the fact we play them every year of course.
