  • OK, the woman putting on makeup is in an EMPTY CAR. When you're alone in a train car with dozens of empty seats, it's not an issue.

  • MUNI has this same problem....

  • If people have their shit taking up an empty sit then ask them to move there stuff. If they say no then move the stuff over yourself and sit down. If they want to fight then they have to deal with me.

  • doesn't any one travel light when they fly? if you have to travel heavy, drive your own car or rent a car or truck.

  • @TVman1981 wouldn't know that. And Second, why are you complaining about someone taking up 2 spots when there are a dozen empty seats around them? It's not like if the BART was packed those people would still spread over that many seats. Take it from one of the "peasants" you look down on, when the trains are full people make room. Everyone moves as far in as they can and shares the space. We don't need your condescension to teach us good manners. Try reporting on a real story for once.

  • @TVman1981 This video is ridiculous, and makes no sense. Congratulations, you want a medal for coming down to "our level" and riding the BART? This is clearly the only time you have ridden the train, and none of your so called "insights" are even remotely useful. First, the reason for taking out seats is for rush hour when there are more people than the train can accomodate. each seat takes up 2 standing people's worth of space, but you just rode it once when there was no one on it, so you

  • In Melbourne, you put your feet on the seat, you cop a $250 dollar fine.

  • What is wrong with these people occupying all the seats in an EMPTY train? So selfish.

  • this dudes a hater haha

  • I am surprised that you did not show some of the filth on those BART trains. There are times when people are eating a meal and let's not forget those convenience store 32 ounce soft drinks.

Surprised you did not actually show a super crowded BART train.

  • Maybe it's because I ride BART constantly for school but what this guy is filming doesn't feel like a very accurate portrayal.

I seen the same type of people that this guy is complaining about, move their items/bikes to ensure people have more access to seats. Especially when full. I myself am a big guy, and tend to draw allot on BART, but if things start getting crowded, I'll start moving my stuff and hug the walls so somebody else can sit comfortably. That, or get up and stand for a while.

  • This guy is complaining about people taking up more than one seat -- but I see other empty seats around every time. So what's the big fricking deal?

  • BART seats are so grimy awful smelling, I don't mind standing if it means I can keep from getting homeless-scabies from those nasty seats.

PS cloth seats for mass transit? what a terrible idea.

  • There are two empty seats in front of the woman applying make-up, so why would she bother moving her stuff? Only a sociopath would choose to sit next to her when there is an empty bench available.

    Other than that, good point.

  • If someones taking up a seat with bags while making out or have their feet on it, and you wanna sit there, just ask. really rather fucking simple innit?!

  • Bart needs to do what CalTrain has done, make a car for bike riders and luggage toters. If you are riding BART regularly and have a bike, invest in a folding bike or have BART charge you for the bike and too much effing luggage on board. I ride from Berkeley to Coliseum & Fridays are a nightmare during the spring &summer. UC students are leaving town via the Oakland Airport, A's game & commute riders all crammed on a 4-6 car train.

  • hmmm... 9 out of 10 of the scene that you shoot was a bart with bunch of other empty seats, so y does it matter when people are taking up more than one seat?

  • this would have been a more effective video if you actually showed a crowded train with people taking up more than one seat

  • lol like how tvman says "before rude comments on youtube" must get alot. but truth is people now days are acting stupid. i noticed its getting worse and worse. like common sense is going out the door with each generation with only a few left to show the new ones who wanna listen how to behave in public.

  • The fucking BART was empty. It doesn't matter if people take up 2 or 3 seats. There's no one on the train. Stanley Roberts is GAYYYYYYYY

  • where else r supposed to put ur bike without blockin an aisle or doorway, wat on the the roof?

  • Sorry TV man, now you are going much too far.

  • It's better to block a seat than block a door or aisle in the event of an evacuation.

  • The trains almost empty! So big deal if someone occupied an extra seat, its not like there are people standing for lack of seats! I'm sure the people, for example, the ones with the feet on the opposite seat would remove them if someone wanted to sit.

  • well there wasn't anyone standing around without a place to sit.

    come on.

  • Three words: Bitch. Bitch. Bitch.

  • Just a tip, a lot of times your luggage can fit underneath your seat. That's a great use of underutilized space.

  • BART tells you NOT to put items under seats.

  • Is there a link to that?

  • It's broadcast on the BART digital boards and announced in the stations. Unfortunately, YouTube doesn't allow links in comments. You can go to BART's website and just hunt around the Passenger Safety area and you may find it.

  • I haven't seen it anywhere on the digital boards or in stations. Unless you are referring to not leaving bags unattended, but that is completely different than having it directly underneath your seat.

All I could pull up in the Safety section of BART is:

Please keep luggage out of the way of fellow passengers. Luggage must never block walkways and doorways. To help prevent tampering, theft or damage; keep luggage secure and within your sight.

    bart (dot) gov/guide/safety/safety.aspx#train

  • Hmm, well I could've sworn I saw it on BART's overhead digital signs. Ah, well.

  • its disabled not handicapped...look it up saying a person is handicapped is praticully putting a disabled person down...and yes i am a disabled male not handicaped male....keep the videos coming good work

  • try SF busses. its impossibl to get off the bus in chinatown what for all the people swarming into the back door, or around alamo square youll find ghetto kids blocking the stairwell sometimes

  • I know on MARTA (Atlanta's transit system), most of the seats face forward (excepting the ones for the hadicapped and the elderly, which are by the doors). I know when I ride MARTA, I'll take up two seats on occassion (sp?)... when the car is light with traffic.

    Anyway, good story.

  • That was the worst biased report ever. People that were taking up more room than necessary were also the people that were riding bart during off peak hours. Nobody needs a seat if there are only 4 people in a car. C'mon.

  • I've done that, but I was like the only one in the car.

  • very nice, I think you should take video during rush hour so you can see people standing while people hog the seats with bags and feet. be careful, bart can be full of hostile people sometimes.

  • Nice video, Stanley.

I wish Bart would designate a car for bikes (like the first/last car), like CalTrain does. That would be nice, as I don't like potentially blocking any seats or preventing people from boarding the train.

I notice a lot of people taking up seats with their luggage. Some common sense would help more than removing seats.

  • Okay, I'm guilty of blocking seats with my bike exactly like the guy in the video, but most of the time when I ride, there's hardly anyone in the train, and I ride in the last car. Hopefully when BART get's new cars, there will be s special bike area like Caltrain has.
