The US is pretty violent but I can't remember the last time I heard of an ambulance crew being attacked. The firefighters got shot at back in the LA riots and in the 60's it was common but not now. You people are weird and scary, beating up ambulance medics.
P.S I think what we are seeing here is an example of the bystander effect. The term was coined after the murder of Kitty Genovese in NY 1960s? Wiki it. Interesting (yet easy to read) books on similar topics by Prof Wiseman (too many to list), plus Freakonomics and SuperFreakonomics - The Hidden Side of Everything by Steven D. Levitt & Stephen J. Dubner.
Cant believe people think that this doesn't happen in their countries and that its just The Netherlands. This happens all over the world, and no its isn't normal in any part of the world. but it does happen on occasions. Its just dumb and ignorant to think this doesn't happen in your country, just because you or anyone you know would do it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
I wonder, if this campaign is going to work!? People passing by seem to be entertained by any kind of movie sequence. They seem to enjoy the action rather than beeing concerned about "their" behaviour. ^^ But it's definitly a good thing to point at the problem and make it public... I like it, anyway. ;-)
@Zielsucher Yes I was surprised by most peoples reaction. I am pretty sure that I would find it quite disturbing to be part of that anti agression screen ''trick''. I found just watching this here on youtube quite hard hitting. Unsure if it would have any positive impact on my potential reaction though due to the flashback effect (the video made me start to relive past violent incidents, which obviously is incapacitating instead of empowering/encouraging). Hope it works for others though :)
Different...will it work? Not sure...certainly an issue that needs dealing with. The staging might be a bit extreme but how else are you going to get people to stand there and watch...The next time someone walks by a situation like this I'm sure this billboard message will trigger a reaction
I had the unfortunate experience of spending a few months in Hague, Netherlands some years ago.
I wish 5-20 good people exit that cursed country, so the dams can break and drown them all. I have never ever ever ever ever ever seen in my life such soulless meatpieces, their public sector and administratives are. Calling them simply inhuman would be a compliment.
Bastard, money-sucking-energy-sucking vampires, without ANYTHING of value. Eyes empty without a soul. That's Netherlands, that's your kind of shit that runs public sector. Go fuck yourselves Dutch hybrists!! No greater injustice on the planet can be found, than in that horrendous something-like-country. And do shove that International Injustice Court up your ass, dutch shit! :-)
Yeah, Dutch Society is totally broken, and we can fix it by runnig some propaganda ads. Fact is, no public service employee or anybody in general is encouraged to cut you slack, bend the rules, or help you out in any circumstance for the sake of humanity. Following the rules is what is valued. So, if you want people to help the "public service employees", you must make it rule/law with a penatly for lack of compliance. That is what living in Dutch society teaches you.
who would beat up a bearer or an ambulance driver???!!!! If the advertisement was showing cops being beaten nobody would support the message. people would like that.
they are just garbling the truth by using the term "public service employee" ,without saying what they really mean, so as to convince people to cooperate with the f***ing police.
@abkalmo Yes, abkalmo, you are right. Obviously we do not live in similar societies because in our society beating up paramedics is unimaginable while in yours clearly isn't, since you get the point of this ad. And actually it's the opposite...police gets the people it deserves. Finally, as much as I appreciate Scandinavian people, it's a fortune we are not all the same otherwise we would all be sleeping beauties.Sweet dreams my friend.
@darkvina What is it you don't get? The Netherlands is not Scandinavia, it's not *every* European country either. It's unimaginable that people would attack paramedics in my [Scandinavian] country too! You are full of hot air, just like your [Greek] economy. At least my holiday in Greece will still be nice whatever the price ;)
In Italy, 95% of all rapists are Muslims. Eighty-five percent of all murderers are Muslims... Another telling statistic is that although the Muslims are 12% of France's population, 70 percent of a total of 60,775 prisoners in France are Muslims! All of France's urban suburbs are being roamed by Muslim black African or Arabic gangs... source: w w w . masada2000 . o r g/islam . h t m l
Its like telling you to "watch this" and the moral of the story is dont just "watch it". This idea conditions people to exactly do what they are not supposed to do!
Its just insane to me how you can think that you can teach people to not watch violence by showing them violence!!! Extreme Anti Violence Fail...
@abkalmo The world is more humorous than Norway you know, you sound like a dick when you jump down a person's throat for a simple joke.
It's pretty clear that countchunkula knew the purpose of dialing 112, otherwise they wouldn't have drawn the comparison to 911. Those in the US realize that the world is not like the US and would kindly ask that you to stop pointing out the obvious at every. possible. moment.
@fozzibab Its very common in some UK cities too. Thugs will call the ambulance or fire services at night purely so they can ambush them with bricks and bottles.
@fozzibab No, I think they are just bored. I think its worse in Northern Ireland. The real life cop shows show the police there going round in heavily armored vehicles and get all sorts of things lobbed at them, such as petrol bombs, fireworks etc. The police just sit in their vans while they get pelted with the stuff by gangs of 50 to 60+ little kids & teenagers, because they know there's nothing they can do to stop them without endangering lives and causing an even bigger riot involving adults
@a5superman really ? So we're just going to start beating the shit out of ambulance drivers because we are frustrated with taxes ? That's a hell of a leap.
Welcome to the future of the USA. Where everyone is frustarted with thier government and the amount of money that gets wasted so people take it out on Government workers.
Clever idea. But can anyone tell me why public service employees face aggression in the Netherlands? I can't imagine why anyone would attack an ambulance...

Fantastic campaign. Where we are constantly told by authorities to stay out of it, here we see the opposite and in my opinion a much better option.
Get involved and help when people are assaulted. Random aggression would not be anywhere near as bad is people would simply all stand up against it.
dinther 8 months ago
The impact would be much higher if they placed a real ambulance at the scene too (with one backdoor opened).
