They reckon the best Montego to buy was the standard 1300 model because it had the reliable A+ Series engine in.

I think it was the only A series engined Leyland car to have an automatic choke.

Lovely car. I don't know why people slate them so much either- I think they're awesome. Those 2.0 litre O Series engines are pretty bomb proof too.

Have it serviced regularly (especially the turbo units) and the cambelt replaced and you should have plenty of happy motoring.

Treasure it because these are really getting rare now.

Terrible cars. I owned a 1.6L - head gasket went. Then a 2.0 MG EFI (non turbo) - engine siezed. Then years later a 2.0 GTi - steering rack went. Then a late model BRG GTi - head gasket went. They a rust buckets. Turbo is fast if you like torque steering all over the place. Mind you to be fair to this one in a few years it might be worth some good money as there are virtually none left outside of the scrappies now.

nice car. I had a rover 416GTi and it had leather seats same shape as that but they were blue. the car was blue with the legendary HONDA 1.6 16V TWIN CAM INJECTION!!!

Hi I had a brand new one, H reg 2.0ltr SL it spent more time in the garage than on the road, kept it for 2 years and got rid of it, worst motor ive owned

I had a Monty 1.6L red C reg. It did about 35mpg if you took it easy. Fast too, over 100. Good car !
