I remember listening to this, along with a bunch of my other friends, the night before one of my friends went off to basic training... SUCH AN EPIC SONG... the song fit so perfectly to the moment.
I really don't like the full version of the song. It just drags on. The music video edit has just the right length to where ending hits harder for me.
At first the piano is annoying but after listening to this song all the way through,it really fits the song and the feeling that it tries to convey. The guitar also really helps bring out the raw beauty of this song.I can see how its not for everybody but to me its great.:)
Try listening to this song playing from two different mediums at the same time with a fraction of a second of difference in playtime. It's mind blowing.
'If the sun comes up and I still don't wanna stagger home' It's little fragments of vivid lyrics like this that paint a picture in your head and make you really know what the song is about.
im just startin to listen to years of lcd soundsystem and electronic music again after years of puttin them off cuz the ppl that told me to listen to them usually had shite taste anyways and after hearin losin my edge and this i realize all their home demos, and cool bit of conversation ive heard them say were taken from lcd soundsystem music or lyrics jesus christ as its painted in chicago "hipster holocaust" we need guitar rock and roll back and not the late 70s early 00s garage sound revival
i feel the piano is used in the same way as drummer plays beats, to me it seems very percussive and i love it. the sound of it is great and the track is truly beautiful
I can appreciate the artistic sounds, I understand the reasons behind the piano, the constant of the note and the feelings it is supposed to induce...but its just not for me.
@keeblin it's not the same though... i mean, i don't think it's monotonous, but it literally is the same chord being played over and over and over and over and over
the piano chords are dynamic and fresh sounding despite not having much in the way of variation. The song is atmospheric and thoughtful in all it's small details and smaller sounds
I think that if you sat through the entire song, from start to finish, you might realize that it is (sorry pitchfork) the best song of the 00's. Annoyed by the piano? It's supposed to sound discordant. But it's also one of the neatest music tricks ever, because by the end it fits perfectly, and it sounds triumphant, and it is like no hook you've ever heard before. Appreciate an incredible piece of music.
Ps. for whoever said that it was "monotonous", I have nothing to say to you.
@jellybeanlanehotmail - the beginning is what loses us. Too long. I could not sit through it long enough to find out how beautiful it gets. I do not doubt what you say...but please realize that for some of us, this is akin to listening to a dentist drilling our teeth. Not sure why it affects some of us that way and not others...but that's how it is.
@jellybeanlanehotmail just because I'm supposed to be annoyed by the piano, doesn't make it any less annoying. for me, it get's better when the intro is over (the rest of the instrumentation is pretty good), but towards the end the song gets really boring. personally I would have liked this song, if it were 3 to 4 minutes long.
@jellybeanlanehotmail Can't say I ever thought I'd see a comment disparaging Pitchfork's treatment of LCD Soundsystem, they practically worship Murphy. Similarly, I never thought I'd see this song described as monotonous so there you go.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sorry to those of you who find this to be "music" but it is awful. Sounds like small children, who can't play the piano, pounding on the keyboard. I wanted to scream, "knock it off". Sounds like some of you love this...I just don't get it.
How many times do you reckon somebody saw the name "LCD Soundsystem" and thought, OMGDZ IT MUZT BE DUBSTEP OR TRANCE OR SUMFIN LOL, then disliked the video in their dissappointment.

The lyrical content is just so sick. He's truly a fucking artist. I just don't like the MUSIC to this song, which is so unfortunate for me. Whatever. Enjoy everybody
@Anjro0 Haha, same. And doesn't the fact that you can respect the song as being amazing, even though the music isn't your favourite, act as a testament to how much of an arts he is? There are a lot of 'artists' out there who you can easily say, "This sucks," and form a just opinion after listening to five seconds. I love it when I can dissect a peice of music, determine what I like and maybe decide I don't like parts of it, but still enjoy the experience of LISTENING TO LEGITIMATE MUSIC! Peace.
