  • Great Ian Tyson composition.

  • The Canadian Legend Ian Tyson wrote this song.

  • Bobby Bare is indeed underrated - his delivery and reading of a song is as good as Willie or Gene Watson, and his live show was as good as Waylon's. Bare was and is a great act both on record and live as a look around youTube will tell you. Thanks for the post . . .

  • did he write this

  • Ist schon 'ne tolle Bühnenshow, die der bärige Bobby da abreißt....

  • IMHO this wins; no strings, nice pace, interesting, clean guitar runs.

  • in my all time top 10 - and i bought my first record in 1957... oh, and greetings from australia.

  • @melliepup1 fairdinkum mate i jst know thats spelled wrong oh well greetings from the land of ozz

  • A great favorite!

  • Tyson's one of the best songwriters ever. Neil Young does a great version of this song too.

  • Thanks for sharing this song and even a bigger THANK YOU for the video. It is really great. I never get tired hearing this song - especially his recording and performance

  • Bobby Bare makes you feel like everything he sings puts you in his shoes!!!!!! It's worth at least 10 stars this is my favorite version of this song and I've heard all the other artists. Bobby blows them out of the water!!!

  • Just heard a super Dave van Ronk version. Single acoustic guitar, with minor chords. Melancholy.

  • I've never heard this version before. Tyson's original version has a minor chord in the turnaround each time that lends it a more mournful quality. This version is pretty upbeat. A great sound but to me it doesn't have the same impact. Maybe it's because I'm an Albertan.

  • The big hit with this song was by the Brothers Four and their take on the song is quite different also, more somber.

  • This is a great song. I spent a lot change in the jukebox on this one when he released it.

  • Great song, greatest version.

  • Great version of this song.

  • This is my favorite version.

  • One of his best!

  • check out ian tyson's version, the original

  • Bobby is MY faw...!!

  • Terrific.....He can make a song sound like his is the only version worth listening !!!!!

  • Thanks for the vid. One of my all-time favorites. 5 stars.

  • It almost sounds like Jim Reeves doin' it all over again. Bobby Bare's music does something to me. Don't know what, but it makes me just overall feel good.

  • I agree. Bobby Bare is one of my favorites and his voice is excellent. I wish country music still had a sound like this.

  • @SavageArmsMan It's the whole "gentleman Jim' thing. Bobby has it in spades as well. Good, wholesome singing that we all miss these days.

  • One of the best songs of all time!

    Thanks for this post!
