  • @daboypoet Jeff Martone weighs 170...and his max TGU is 158. You say you are 200, so you should be able to do 188. You say ask you to do so and you will...well, we are asking you to do so. I have taken this KB Cert class and dude is legit as they come...bad ass BJJ fighter as well and at 43 years old he would pummel you into submission in @ 20 seconds. So, lets see that 188 lb TGU! BTW, he also swings a 102lb KB (full overhead American swing) for 40 reps unbroken..we'd like to see that too!

  • OMG! I did my first Turkish Get Up today with only a 16kg kettlebell. Even with that little weight I couldn't get it done! You pick a whole woman... LOL :-)

  • @dside43 there is nothing wrong with his form. it's completely fine. some people argue that you shouldn't use your arm at the sit up stage to increase difficulty, but I prefer using my arm to post (as do most people, including the guy in the video).

    She is all wrapt around his arm so there is more sta...bility so that it's less heavy to preform this exercise:) I bet he would had a hard time doing it when he grabt her other arm or used a 48 kg kettlbell:)

    but obviously not with that much weight!  male tgu beginners start with no weight and than move to a 12kg and after a long time you can get up to 24-32kg

  • It works a lot of different muscle groups, and often through a range of motion that would include several sticking points. Thus, it really helps to build the stabilising muscles. In particular, look at the work his shoulder and his core are both doing.

    If you do this with lower weights but higher reps, it can really exhaust you rapidly because of all the muscles involved.

    It's an amazing exercise that gives you a huge amount of bang for your buck. I love and hate TGs. They're horrid.

  • keep in mind that you can do TGU's with dumbbells or barbells, not only kbs, each tool has a different feel to it so play around.

  • Oh ok sorry. I thought you were bashing this. Well the only thing i can think of to relate this to in terms of exercise is isometrics.

  • it works every muscle in your body, and is a wonderful exercise for your actual core (Not just your abs, which are a waste of time and won't even get you a direct 6-pack anyways). It can also be incorporated into weighted GPP, however this is only for individuals with world class conditioning (At least 14 straight minutes of GPP).

  • Its a circuit of usually 4 exercises all done in 30 second intervals (2 minutes per circuit, no rest between circuits onless you are just starting).

    2 of the exercises emphasize recovery, and two exercises are semi-explosive movements. There are weighted and non-weighted variants to GPP. GPP is normally done at the beginning of a workout, after the dynamic warm-up.

    GPP people do not care about any one thing in specific but improving everything. So GPP athletes will not have the best running, lifting or anything like that but will be amazing OVERALL athletes...
