It's because of the sound. Many directors have this to avoid being distracted by the audience. In addition, it mimics the acoustics of a normal orchestral environment. Playing in open air does things with sound, you don't want to know..

The first time the original was published was IN the film, which is what I meant; That clip of the film was online hete on YT for a while.

I don't know of any video recordings made of that music recording for the film. Cameras weren't so common at the time.. ;)
