hmm yea i guess your right hehe, i dont try to copy other ppl, at most i'll try to immitate effects that cant be done with wmm or maybe use the same song, but i usually find my own stuff, and i've been close to to immitating a vegas zoom effect (where you'd see somethign and it'd zoom it really fast on one part and then it'd be just that zoomed part in the frame but not too zoomed to be bad quality)

I find the best way to learn a program or get practice with it is to mimic something else and get as close to it as possible, and troubleshoot to see how they did it... It lets you explore the program, then once you have al ot of experience under your belt, make your own style.

Betas are just shorter versions of amvs. Its like a test version of the shorter version, to see if the audiences like it. If they do, usually the creator, will make a longer version. Sometimes, though they could make the longer version anyway.
