i think it was just showing that the era was coming close to and end. i.e everything was becoming watered down pieces of crap...yet irony we can have slutty girls singing on music videos and stuff and violent tv shows that never taught you that killing is never the way like alot of 80s tv shows did ...well things like macguyver and knight rider did anyways

God, I remember this horrid edit. What makes it worse for me is.... the TV edit (ABC, I believe) was my intro to "Ghostbusters," and I didn't see the original version of this scene until years later! Needless to say, it came as quite a surprise.
