  • I don't want to sound like a noob but I mainly practice on an electric drum set and I'm able to do songs by bands like August Burns Red a full way through but I get tired and when I try to do the flying fingers style I get the speed like no problem but it sounds low and like there's no power behind it. Do you think this is because the electric head doesn't have the pop that a real snare head does or does this mean I have a lot of practice to go?

  • Don't neglect your pinky! Excluding your thumb it's attached to the strongest muscle in your hand. It'll boost your speed and stamina heaps with practice.

  • What size sticks do you use?

  • I filled an old windex bottle with water and just sprayed it a whole bunch with my middle finger

  • Really good clear explanations keep it up

  • fuck the left hand , i so fucking hate my left LEG!

  • finally i can masturbate with one hand

  • Sorry spikey you're a very long time too late .. I was a small kid when i saw this guy play.. 1 year before he died.. Legendry drummer... Check out his left hand trad grip ... This was 30 yrs ago.. Buddy rich west side story.. Thanks for a bit of an update but you cant reinvent the wheel..

  • @TheLeebo01 Dude its been proven that the flying fingers technique is faster than trad grip, check out WFD.

  • If you want to see sick flying fingers technique check our Lyn Jeffs from Ingested.

  • I have this perfected on my right hand but my left still needs a lot of work.

  • EXCELLENT VIDEO! Thanks for the TIPS, we need more vids like this! KICK ASS!

  • wow you tought me gravity blast, double bass, dude you fucking rock!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "The French grip" I LOL'd!

  • be my teacher please !,,hahaha

  • I bet he's a cool dude to hang with

  • since when is tigger a heavy metal drummer

  • Featured on the-obliteration.c o m

    Thanks!

  • any tips for strengthening your left yound's fingers??? o.O

  • sick blast beats man! :D

  • ridiculous outfit... but very informative. thanks man.

  • Fuck my fingers are so slow -.-

  • Love the Tigger suit! That helped alot thanks

  • Comment removed

  • Right hand can go for about 5bars of 16th notes at around 140 and can speed one bar at 160 left hand one bar 110 it's dodgy as haha

  • thanks :) helped a lot :) now i´m trying to play "WBTBWB - Wir gehen an Land" on drums :D

  • @rubnaus. Your doing it all wring. Lol. Jkjk. look up the push and pull technique. It sort of shows you a lil on rebound techniques.

  • This is retarded. I can't take you seriously with the tigger outfit. WTF. And you don't have too only use flying fingers. And you can use your wrist. Its not impossible. Lol. I use the moeller technique when I blast. Its not wrong. Lol. Actually flying fingers has less power than incorporating the wrist. Or upper arm. I'll give a 3 star. Lol

  • Hey, I've got a question. When you hit a surface, the rebound seems to be much higher than when I do it, So I automatically start using my wrist. Maybe I'm somehow blocking my rebound?

What am I doing something wrong?

  • SO. FRUSTRATING. AAAARGH!!!

  • i cant get it going atall with my left hand :( ive got my right pretty good but with my left it just feels like theres nothing to push back with my bottom fingers. I guess it kinda like playing a kick with no spring tension - solutions?

  • @tricky12321 SAME FUCKING THING FOR ME :O

  • @benoitdrums1996 this is such a late reply but what i did was just sit down for like an hour holding my wrist of my left hand with my right to keep it still and doing it with just 2 fingers then started using all my fingers - i can do it proper fast on pillows now so on my kit is now really easy

Hope youve got it by now already bro

  • @tricky12321 same thing here

  • Wrist blasting cant be done? watch?v=0FN6sOL3qyg&feature=related It can, and fucking fast

  • @muspelheim8 i told him to watch that vid of kai...also check danny walker wrist is where its at...i used to use fingers but wrist is so much better

  • Why the fuck are you guys criticising him? When it comes to this stuff it's about how YOU do it,sure there are techniques and whatnot but it's about what works for you and feels comfortable and stuff,if it doesn't work for you,try something else, don't blame someone who tried their best to help you

  • Dad: What are you doing in there?

Son: Trying to get this 'flying fingers' technique down that I saw on the internet.

    Dad: O.o

  • Thanks alot spikey!

  • i disagree with you alot on this video wrist is way better just as fast and it is way more intense...and yeah you can use arm wrist technique watch the video called kai hahto perfection live close up

  • rednek

  • Also, spikey, you're grip is too tight. It puts a lot of unneeded strain on your forearm. Your forefinger should be a lot looser. you don't need to pinch on the stick so much. The stick should be floating in your hand. You'll get a much more relaxed and economic stroke if you let the stick relax on your middle finger or the back of the hand. Moeller's little finger grip gives a lot more power and stamina to your strokes while also maximizing the bounce. look up some Gary Novak, his grip is nice.

  • I have the keeping it straight and not going out of control, but I can't keep the rebound going? What am I doing wrong?

  • tiger you are the best drumig animal i ever see

  • waggling your wrist works for Kai Hahto

  • where do you show how to find the fulcrum???

  • i tried this but i didnt get much power, so i found speed and power by doing this and increasing power with my wrist but you need to practice it every day or else you'll loose it :(

  • did u hav ur period on ur snare???

  • I hate my left hand!

  • @Cakez00 lol, wrong attitude :p

  • @Cakez00 Glad to hear I am not the only one! FUUUU LEFT.

  • Lesson 34. No Exceptions.

  • If I'm working on strengthening for this, where would I feel it (wrist, hand, arm, etc)? Also, how does this work on things with less rebound (for example, off the edge of a cymbal)?

  • Comment removed

  • nice one

  • You should probably work on replacing that snare head, :P

  • yeei...............................

  • there's no such thing as "flying fingers technique." It's just a made-up name metal drummers use to pretend that they developed it. It's just regular finger technique for matched grip. It's nothing special. It's really basic and one of the first things you learn as a drummer. If you didn't know you could use your fingers to drum you really need to start over or find a teacher. You want a good dvd, get Jojo mayer's secret weapons for the modern drummer. Probably the best technique vid available

  • @coxkr6 it is not a beggining thing dude my brother did drum lessons and not ONCE was ANYTHING like this mentioned looks like YOU need to find a teacher.

  • @zeroskater601 you're telling me your brother's drum teacher never taught him how to use his fingers or the natural rebound of the stick to make his strokes? either your brother missed the point completely or he needs to find a better teacher. If you read any of moeller, gladstone, or chapin's work you'd know that the whole point of drumming is controlling the rebound. . Flying fingers is just old freehand technique repackaged by a bunch of morons who think they invented something.

  • @coxkr6 They have a different name for it because this is a blast beat technique, not a general drumming technique. I would think that a death metal drummer would be more proficient at this than say a jazz drummer because this is a specific area of focus. The thing that makes this different is that every single hit has to be defined and consistent and the drummer needs to get a lot of power from one hand.

  • @Beholdthesharktopus It's not a blast beat technique. it's a basic technique that can be applied to blast beats, but was not designed specifically for blast beats. The power and consistency of the stroke is up to the drummer and does not change the name of the technique. I can play a ride triplet as hard or soft as i want, it's still a triplet. Besides it sounds like shit. So boring and one dimensional. "flying fingers technique" sounds like a 10 y/o made it up. It's a french grip. simple.

  • This technique was actually the way I was taught by my drum instructor at school, yea for marching band.

  • @SonsofLiberty740 of course, that's how you play drums. I don't know how anyone can play without using their fingers. It's basic drum technique that all drummers learn, not just in marching band but in all spheres of drumming. It's not a special technique, it's how you play drums. Ya, you use your wrists for accents but you're always using your fingers. derek and george use their fingers all the time. their wrists move but theuir fingers are doing most of the work.

  • Nice snare head broski.

  • its hard to take this guy seriously when he has a tigger costume on ^_^

  • FUCK this guy's good NICE WORK MAN i learn alot from you :)

  • 5:20 I wouldn't say its the best thing in the world. Sex tops everything. lol but yes you are right.

  • then why do derek roddy and george kollias play with their wrists

  • @MisterWhat666 Its just another technique brosif... it works better that way for them, they go with it. Other people can flying finger technique it better.

  • death metal tigger!

  • @Spikeydrummer when your doing the technique are your fingers facing up or to the side? i do better doing it to the side.

  • dude i love u, i learned how to blast like a champ with ur help

  • Do you use Danny Carey signatures?

  • thanks dude your vids are some of the best drum tutorials on ze tube lol

  • I have a question is it like the rudiments???

  • How much time would you recommend practicing this every day? It's weird i can do it off the drum but I suck at it with the drum.

  • when i try this technique, my arm goes stiff and i get tired really easily

how can i combat this and improve my stamina?

  • @Alisterbmx read above comments, ya gotta masturbate!!!!!!!

  • i practice this with silverware when im eating :)

  • 106,000 views, exactly!

  • i love how serious you can be in a tigger suit.

  • I never knew this trick had a name. I'm a huge fan of Buddy Rich, and this technique was apparently one of his secret weapons. I learned the method from him.

  • @TheDustyspears It's not a secret BR technique. It's using your fingers in the french grip, which is how you play the french anyway. it's been around for ages. If you just found out that your fingers can be used for drumming then you need to take a step back and start with the basics. all the metalheads did was use it in a blast beat and attach some stupid name to it. I can play the french as loud and fast as i want, it's still a french grip. It's just using fingers. plain and simple

  • i need to learn to do this with my left hand ffs, my right hand is perfect

  • dude, is that blood on your snare head?!

  • The one and only flying fingers technique for blast beats... *YEAH* *clap clap* XD

  • look at his snare man, its red

  • @vikings580 BLOOOODDDDDD

  • what are the size of your toms?

  • i dont want 2 get carpeltunnel:0

  • @mysnuggiesonfire you wont, just dont do french grip

  • can you make another video for the flying fingers??? im still having trouble. my index finger keeps loosening up

  • hey can you help me out spikeydrummer? when i use the flying fingers technique my index fingers keeps being lazy and come off the stick. and exercises to help?

  • my stick only boucnes up about 1 - 2 inches i think ig to the technique right but there like no "fan" shape. my snare head is tight. Any help would be appreciated so much

    thanks in advance

  • does the head of the snare contribute to anything because i try to do this but i dont get as much bounch as that

  • @boyzinbrown if you aren't getting a lot of rebound then it is probably time to replace your snare drum head, it its fairly new and you dont get a lot of rebound then you most likely just need to buy a higher quailty one

  • @xSetInMotioNx would evans hydraulics be good or something like that

  • what kind of sticks do you use? heavy or lighter sticks?

  • @xSetInMotioNx 5b vic firth stix occasionally my 5a zildjian stix

  • thanks so much for uploading this vid, it helps a lot !!!

  • On the right hand I can do the "flying finger technique" from 130 - 230 bpm... but with the left hand, I can only do it from 230bpm on. I don't know, I tried hours and hours but I cannot get it to work on the left hand with lower speed. Sound wierd, right? Well actually, I had my left arm broken a few years ago. When I was then practicing higher speeds, my left hand started "trumbeling". I learned to controll it very well, but as I said, I cannot get it to work on lower speed. please help. thx

  • do you recomend using only your ring and middle finger or should you use your pinkie? would using your pinkie help you get faster?

  • I did this when I started playing drums, lol.

  • this is fukkkkkkin hard to lear

    111111111111111111

  • Another piece of advice. Masturbate a lot...

  • @sinbysin666 or finger your girlfriend.

  • @sinbysin666 it tried your advice. it kinda helped. but it hurt and got my drums all sticky...

  • @83metallicarox I'm glad I've had some kind of influence, lulz. I'm drunk right now. RUM!!! Drinking some RUM!!!

  • @sinbysin666 hahahahahhaha that worked really well for me

  • @sinbysin666

    we all do.........

    Use Dax!!!

  • haha. I love this :D very helpful. good job!

  • Your snare sounds amazing.

  • should i learn with my left or right hand?

  • @EpicSkatinDrummerGuy both, that way you're not stuck with only using one side for cymbals etc. like if you use your right hand you can use your other hand for the hi hat and other cymbals on that side of the kit, if you use your left hand you can do all the rest of the kit and yeah. i cant do blasts with my left hand, i'm currently working on improving my speed with my right hand and working on starting with my left. so yeah i'd say try both

  • 0:22 FUCKING EPIC WKAJWKAJAKJAKJAJAJAJAJAJAJSAHJAHJAHAHAHAHAHHAHAA

  • thanks alot now i can do that really good

  • 1. If u put the stick in between ur pointer and middle finger and curl ur fingers into a fist u get good bounce but also some blisters

    2. can u do it with ur left hand too? i learned this technique on my right hand with out knowing what it was called or that there was vids on youtube and on my left hand i use my fingers and my wrist to get speed

  • thanks

  • i can do it with the full hand for like a minute, then my arm feels like it's gonna fall off :[

  • got it with my right hand perfect. left is struggling looks like i need to masturbate more with my left hand thanks!

  • @Duublekick i rofl'd a lot at that comment!

  • @Duublekick It doesn't help....

  • was that suicide silence with the high hat in stead of the ride

  • the part i'm having much problem is holding it. i cant seem 2 get a good grip on it with my finger and thunb. then when i try pushing its hurting my fingers

  • LOL thats right, you fail, you lose a finger xD really makes you learn things fast.

  • Stop het in je nauwe gaatje

Ik laat een scheet in jouw richting

note:if u find out what this means im just kidding, a joke

    german

    rwm :D

  • Did you decapitate someone on your snare?

  • I'm super lucky..first time i ever picked up drum sticks i was able to blast with both hands REALLY fast. Faster than he's doing in the video

  • can someone help i have the technique but i dont get anypower its really hard cause i use a electronic drum kit and the sanre is made out of concrete

  • @sasjenkyn damn man, i know how you feel. i swear flying fingers is impossible on electric kits.

  • @BlackVyprrTBW i know it sucks so bad :( i was thinking of geting like a roland mesh head snare but at 260 cash... it way expensive ill just stick with my concrete snare for now

  • Knives in the kitchen?!

  • LOL. Flying fingers technique? Who came up with that term? It's just finger technique. I think the "actual" flying fingers technique is a valving technique, not just simple finger drumming. It's funny to see people pretend like they've come up with a new technique and give it a new label, even though the technique has been around for over 50 years. Not saying the tigger guy did it, but whoever either misinterpreted the technique or repackaged it thinking he'd get brownie points.

  • @tcslick420 lolwut

  • @tcslick420 who cares just shut the fuck up

  • How long did it take you to get to the speed you're at now?

  • with the flying finger tiechnique.. do you combine in with moeller technique?

  • dude thanx for the lesson this shit actualy worked .. iv gotten faster with my blast beats now n like wen i look at my drumstix flying im like shit lol

thANX DUDE UR AWSUM .. HOPE FULLY U COME UP WITH NEW VIDS SOON LOL

  • my damn fingers on my left hand are too weak for this

  • What's with the tigger outfit? Lol I mean really...

  • Can you do it on your left hand?

  • Does that costume say"Tigger" or "NIGGER"!!!!!

  • nice vid and sweet tigger^^

  • ive been trying this for a while now and i seem to have it with my right hand, but it just wont work when i use my left. If i try this with my left hand, then my wrist starts to move as well and i just cant keep it as fingers only.

  • You're the best teacher I've ever had man.

I seriously wish I was actually your student :(

THE I SHALL GET A TIGGER SUIT :DD

  • how long did it take you to practice?

  • I use my pinky finger on every other blast, its a little bit more power without my finger getting tired....

  • this is the only thing i do lol, when i started i didn't even know it was actually a technique lol. problem for me is that my arm starts to go to and i end up using my arm lol

  • great lesson but i think i will try do it with my pinky as jojo mayer suggests!:D

  • i learned the flying fingers technique before regular blast beats> Guess it came naturally

  • cheers tigger

  • hi guys... jus like to know if da back end of da stick shud smack against da palm??..

  • amazing vid, thanx for posting

  • @spanatko tigger uses knifes at work :O

  • lol

I learned how to do this accidentally when I was playing Rock Band

    X3

  • @GRAWNasha Sure you did, loser. Anyway, Spikey, nice video, I love how you go about teaching in a Tiger suit fuckin' lul. I learned alot from this and am applying what I've been taught at band practice. Thank you much!

  • @DrummingHobo

Wow, that was an unnecessary comment.

    1. I did, I play Rock Band too much and that's how it developed over time.

    2. There is a difference between being a 'loser' and having fun.

  • muchas gracias! that helped a lot. :D

    thanks tigger.

  • FINALLY..... i finally got this technique down after what a minute or two :P

  • lmao @ killingu1

    and thanks @ SpikeyDrummer

    great vid.

  • i have playing for 3 years and for 2 of those i have been doing the flying finger technique for everything and i had no problams with it because before that i was doing the german technique but i do the french as well because it uses different muscles giving the german muscles breaks and i can sit at high tempos for ages

  • i'll give you 92570497948672389467 dollars for that costume

  • i started blasting inside my gf today, thanks to this vid i now owe her a new pair of panties :P

  • i got me a suit like that and scared the hell out my grandma while playing the drums

  • hey man thx :D question is it really a need to learn blast beats with left hand its really hard xD

  • great lesson, but I bet it sucked working the fryer next to you, ruining all the knives and such : )

  • thank you!

  • pull the tigger bitch! :D

  • i can do it fine with my right hand but not my left

  • <
