As a kannadiga music lover I am writing this epistle in deep appreciation of Vidushis Ranjani and Gayathri - excellent pronunciation of kannada, spiritual rendering of the purandara dasa devara nama, excellent, excellent, i have no words to describe how spiritually one gets elated. Hail these vidushis Ranjani and Gayathri and I wish them all the best in life. God bless them.
Really good rendition! The problem/ strength of Bhajams is the raga and tala tho have to be CORRECT and swara shuddha it is the bhava which transports the audience! there is NO PLACE for Vocal or instrumental gymastics! that is the reason they are NOT lengthy pieces! For that exhibitionof skills there is Ragam Taanam and Pallavi, and the traditional Khayal singing with Vialambit and Drut! In Dhrupad we have Aalap and sanchar and Dhamar etc! Bhajans are just pure devotion IMHO
dint the mridangist hav his breakfast? he would ve dozzed off any time, well almost.... i guess the concert would ve been a lot better with out a mridangam since there was no use of havin this...so lethorgic and light:-(disappointing
@curiousmaron-wher comes metal in carnatic???:-) as a core music enthusiast i personally cannot take up dilution of de art form in the name of reforms...most who know music would agree to this...might be the way harigr8 commented s raw but de fact is that Arun sir was almost muted... n no metal in carnatic:-)i urge people to listen to traditional music since u r accustomed to this lighter way of playin..may be after listenin to a couple u wouldn feel the same way....cheers!!!
Sorry. The noise was in the original feed. Attempts to remove the noise resulted in deterioration in music quality as well. So I let it remain as it is.
I unfortunately agree. Their otherwise wondeful singing is characterised by holding back on tar saptak. I like them all the same but feel unsatisfied.
I cried after listening to this song!! :) it is song so nicely.... Great work Ranjani-Gayatri :)

Excellent rendering of the devotional devaranaama of Sri Purandarda Dasa. I agree that the mrudangist was very muted.

The whole idea of accompaniment is to add to the melody with light and soft touches and not bash it up.
Arun Prakash is a great mridangam artist. If you want something heavy, why don't you listen to metal?

Is it just me that is feeling that R-G at MMU2008 was very lacklustre compared to MMU2007? They seem to be singing most songs very lightly! Why? :(
Also, as an aside, I get disheartened how kannada song lyrics are killed. Is it too much to ask to sing them correctly?
ta-da, ka-ga etc. interchanges are painful
