I work on these cars, from VW to Bentley...you can slap the shifter between drive and tiptronic mode all day long, from 1-200 MPH. It's designed to be able to give the driver instant control in any situation. I advise you to read your owner's manual.
hey if u start in tiptronic and say u get up to about 60 on the highway and ur in about 4th gear.... can u switch from tiptronic to auto while moving or does it fuck ur car up ???
it will do nothing to the car, the transmission is run completely by computers. you can switch from tiptronic to auto to sport back to auto and etc with no problems. the computers compensate for the change with no problem. thats how they were built.
@Paintball4Life94 yea u can..its hard to mess it up...i can be goin like 70 and try to shift into 1st and it wont even let me...in a real stick shift u do that and ur fucked..LOL

I have owned an a4 with a tiptronic and now an S4 and yes, you can switch on the fly without harming anything whatsoever.

the tiptronic is a very strong transmission, it will NOT hurt to shift from drive to tiptronic.

Yes you can, but you must not be accelerating so that no torque is transferred to the gearbox
