I agree to a point, but they are starting the season in the top 20 of every poll. What do you expect when they dont play any ranked teams, and their game against UCLA is at home.

well, they're number 17 to start the season, Washington on the road plus UCLA at home, and the MWC is much better. Utah starts 28, TCU might be ranked this year, so, yes, BYU will play ranked teams. Plus, they have a faster defense and scary D-line. They have a chance in the BCS, that is if they don't get cocky. They can hang with anybody.

I think 17 is a good place for them. They have shown some really good potential over the last two seasons, its just hard to give a team preseason props when their toughest games are the relaxing weeks for most of the other ranked teams. But that being said, if they run the table they are pretty much golden for the BCS. The Big 12 and SEC are so competitive this year that alot of teams that could take that BCS spot from the cougars will be knocking each other out of contention.

very true. Plus, we have a freshman from Kahuku high school in Hawaii, who is amazing. He will be a freshman, along with a kicker from Bingham high school in Utah. That guy set a state record with a 62 yard field goal. Don't be surprised if he stuns some MWC teams with plus 50/60 field goals. I think Texas Tech, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, and a lot of other teams will be awesome. TTech has Graham Harrell, who picks apart defenses like no other, Michael Crabtree, and a few other receivers.

All this talk of conference supremecy is bogus. How many times has the SEC won the Bowl Challenge? Quite. Oh and what about WVU over Georgia in 2006 when no one thought they could.

That Bowl Challenge is a joke. It's based on winning percentage, and all bowl games count the same. The SEC finished second (7-2) to the Mountain West (3-1). LSU's National Championship and UGA's Sugar Bowl Victory counted the same as New Mexico's win over Nevada. And the SEC's only loses were: unranked Arkansas to #6 Missouri, and (tehe) Michigan upsetting Florida. Not to mention, basing conference legitimacy on the Bowl Challenge is stupid. By the MWC going 3-1, they MUST be the best!

Therefore, their enormous win was monumental in establishing the supremacy and toughness of the Pac-10. Also remember that Cal was severely hit by injuries following the Oregon game, helping to explain their dismal record at the end of the season.
