sadly, the imco, as much as i like them, have a huge problem with rust and blocking wheel. It can be cleaned but it's quite some effort. Still worth it i think, but maybe i just kinda like em because my dad had one of those old ones where the part containing the gasoline is an old WW I bullet case/shell
If filling the zippo and changing the flint for the zippo is hard and complicated the. You have to be disables in some way... You also didnt compare how much better the zippo looks. Its such a clean, classic and simple layout with thousands of different designs to choose from. The other lighter looks like a fricken dildo in my opinion...
I like the IMCO lighters over Zippo, however every part of a Zippo can be repaired or replaced making it more accessible to maintenance. Nevertheless, IMCO lighters have much more accessible features. Both are great lighters, but I prefer IMCO. :)

I like both styles, the zippo is basically moron proof, but the IMCO is a little more functional. I don't understand why everybody gets their undies in a bunch because their chosen lighter isn't the favorite of someone else. Don't get me wrong I love zippos (I collect them) but in some situations the IMCO has it beat.
the thing is the only reason you think its better as a candle is it looks like one a zippo does the same job as a candle where as thew imco you have to take it out which means its not windproof when you use it as one i have used my zippo to light my way in a potable campsite toilet in the middle of the night and its was if i had a candle :)
You must be retarted if you think the imco is better than the zippo. The zippo is so simple you take the insert out then everything is rite there i figured out every thing i know about zippo by myself but if i saw the imco i wouldnt know whut the hell to do with it
How is unscrewing and screwing that difficult compared to taking apart the lighter twisting it and all this other bullshit. This kid sounds lazy as shit and the review was a waste of time :/
You've obviously only owned a Zippo. I switched to an Imco (I own two models) after about a year because I had to refill my Zippo so often, but everything about the Imco is much simpler. You don't always have the right size screwdriver on you (though the SAK's can opener will do the job in a pinch), and it's just so much easier to swap the flint in an Imco. Takes about 10 seconds. Try that with a Zippo.
I am looking at this video because i am sick of my zippo's not lighting after 8 months of useage. I have two zippos that are completely useless to me. they are real and bought from zippo.com and for some reason they do not light. They are filled will fluid and have a new flint, after 20 to 30 times trying to light it, nothing happens. there is a spark every time i go to light it and yet it wont light. I take a out of fluid bic and strike the flint next to the wic and it lights no problem.
My Zippo is going strong after 30 years. the IMCO crapped out after three weeks. Looks like my Zippo beat the IMCO in every way. Time will tell. Quality lasts.
@laddiebuck12 You can doubt whatever you like but I do own one and its junk. The Zippo ( I'm not a real Zippo fan either) is still going strong after 30 years. I'm not a liar and it's impolite to call a man you've never met one. But then they say that a man that resorts to name calling has reached the upper limits of his own intellect. It certainly didn't take you any time at all to get there. Now we know.
@laddiebuck12 It won't spark. New flints made no difference. A good cleaning (it wasn't even dirty) and still nothing. It just stopped working after three weeks. The striker (flint wheel) won't turn some of the time and even when it does, no sparks. It's almost like something in there is slipping but I can't see anything that would slip. It just went kaput. Too bad because I liked it while it worked.
No offence but if you wanna make a review think it out before you do the video, do a pro's and cons list for each product, make a bit of a script up about what you want to say. Demo each item individually list the pros and cons then pick the one you think is best and tell us why. Having a review where people are saying "er! well" and "so that's it" really doesn't convince people the review is valid. You make some good points but they are lost because you don't emphasise them.
@iposters zippo's are made with way better materials and come with a lifetime guarantee. They're also as Windproof as any lighter with a standard flame can be! Btw you're paying too much for you're zippo's, I'd recommend shopping around
Thanks for this. I'm really sick of my Zippo and this looks way better. The reasons why I don't like zippo are the following. It leaks like hell. I spend a fortune in fluid for it. It's noisy. It's heavy and cumbersome. The flints are a hassle to change. It gets really dirty fast, and that is using Zippo fluid. I'll try this one and report back.
IMCO maybe looks like crap - yeah, but it works very long. I found in my father's table an old IMCO lighter made in 60's. It was quite worn and the wick was after many years of using quite short. But after cleaning it, it worked many years day after day until I lost it. I don't blame Zippo, I used it very long too, I've got 2 Z's at home. Z's bodyshell is very solid, but the fluid vaporises from Zippo much faster and in the woods it's a disadvantage. I wish an IMCO made as solidly as Zippo.
the IMCO is a really cool lighter with a unique design. It has many features that Zippos lack but it is made of really cheap metal. It feels like a piece of junk in your hand.
The IMCO is superior to a Zippo in every department. It's a better design and has been around longer. Sorry USA but you got beat on this product. Just know I am going to get flamed for this (pun intended) but do I care?
Oh, btw a zippon in the UK costs around 8x more than an IMCO. Go figure.
@iposters im from usa i say fuck zippo i will take a IMCO if they were 10 to 15 dollars and didnt leak fuel i would like them more i dont use none of my zippos on cheaperthandirt com they go for 5 dollars the IMCO
Does your zippo have gold coloured screws on the insert? Cause that would mean its fake and €10,- is already cheap for the zippo so please te me know if the are golden coloured (it means they are made from cheaper metal) as opposed to the real zippo silver coloured.
@SirJ26 More like bronze colored but yes. I got my Zippo at walmart which came in original zippo packaging with warranties and all that. I highly doubt its a fake.
@ArmyRanger10: It's hard to tell from your video because the white-balance is off. The screws should be silver not bronze and gas should not leak ( that much). On mine, it's hard to smell even up close.
Spot a fake:
1Should say Zippo (i being a flame), Bradford PA, Made in USA and the manufacturing date(different markings according to year) on the bottom.
2.The markings on the case should match the one on the insert.

@SirJ26 all zippos have "golden" screws....its brass. And a real zippo is 100% brass always. They plate over the brass in most zippos. maybe over in the Europe they're made differently but here they're all "golden" colored
But the Zippo is an American Classic, and is a icon in America and America's history. The design of the Zippo is classic and flawless. It has stood the test of time.
I don't find it a pain to refill a zippo or put a new flint in. I prefer the IMCO though because the gas doesn't evaporate as easily. Also, I can't stand that negroid jabber jabber, pidgeon English so called 'music' at the beginning and end and you're very inarticulate. I suggest speech therapy.
Pain in the ass? I take my spring and flints out easily and you dont even need a screwdriver, and refilling it is also really easy. the zippo is from a different era and it is for tricks and collecting, if you want to have a practical lighter then just get a bic.
For practicality nothing beats a bic, for collecting and recriational i think the zippo is the most impresive and the imco is kinda good for nothing, as it is in the middle. Kinda like a 4WD made for on road handleing, it doesnt handle as well as a car and it cant go offroad as well as a normal 4x4.
plus they also make a slimline that looks kinda like a cross between the zippo and parker. like some one said these things aren't realy known in the states lol actualy put mine in storage and for the last 5 years off and on done web searches for it *german flip lighter....* and just found it again. love the zippo but for a price of a couple gas station bic's the imco's great too.
Also the adjustable flame is great, it has storage for a spare flint built in. and is probably 1 or 2 tries for ever 100 better on being a 1 strike lighter even in bad weather esp rain because it is lighting as the cover is comming up. Plus it is much better 1 hand lighter anyone can use. and it's design goes back *in a primitive form* to the french ww1 lighters. Plus costs 1/2 to 1/10th the price *where and how many...*. heck ebay you can get 12 new ones for 46 bucks.
I bought a zippo and an imco in the army. The zippo is classic americian, like harley or pump shotgun with an instant recognizeable sound. Camping - or some place where you might sit on or drop something on it the zippo wins. but cause it is long and thin like a bic it slips right in a pack of cigs perfectly.
I have found repacking the rayon in a zippo with first aid cotton(usually a roll not ball) increases the time the fuel lasts. I am not sure why zippo uses rayon in the first place. Also sometimes from the factory the wick gets kludged from the automated process. So the first thing i do is remove all the packing, straighten the wick out then repack with cotton interweaving the wick. That's just me. Zippo's work great usually as is but the fuel doesn't last long in them
The Imco is different than the Zippo. Zippo is still cool though and is way cooler than a butane lighter. Never really minded filling mine up. I also like the heritage surrounding the Zippo. It's cool. I could see someone enjoying being questioned about the imco though, it's a design we're not used to seeing in the state. Zippo incorporates really great compact design features imo. Smooth in your pocket, easy to handle and refill.

If you think about it the IMCO lighter would be better for lighting a bong or pipe or something like that because you can take the thingy out and use it like a match but with the zippo the windsheild gets in the way, but that is the only thing I don't like about the zippo but other than that it is a amazing ligher, does anybody know if you can buy a IMCO in Canada? Because I have never seen one
that lighter that you have there, not the lmco, but the other one. Look at the pins that are to the left and right of the chimney(the one connecting the wheel and the one holding the cover). a real zippo lighter has stainless stell pins not brass(gold looking color), from that either you switched the bolts to brass or you accidently bought a counterfeit.
I did have a zippo and liked it because it lit first time, was windproof and could be lain down and a fire built over it. The IMCO may have the edge when it comes to using heavier fuels. Have you tried it with kerosene or diesel fuel?
The stuffing in the zippo requires repacking (get rid of the layers) so that you get at least two weeks use rather than four days. For hiking/camp, put the lighter inside a sealable box between duties you wont then have problems of fuel loss due to evaporation
Zippo all the way baby i wouldent trade mine for anything in the world, Imco is a good lighter but if you ever held that up t a concert youd get beaten to death =P and as for gas leaking if it worrys you so much just get a regular lighter -_- nothing will ever beat the zippo... ever
sent my imco back 2 factory in austra 4 repair 6 months ago with my return address an still no lighter anyone no how long it takes ? or if they have an email address cheers
ive proven the imco to be more reliable than the zippo in many camping/outdoor activities.
the zippo is a good lighter no dough about it. at the same time the zippo is too expensive for what it gives in return, basically you can buy 3 imcos for the price of the cheapest zippo. yes you can do tricks with it but that dont matter if survival is at stake.
i agree with thecooljumper zippo is awsome its really not that hard to change the flints and its simple design gives it less of a chance of breaking and even if u do pop off ur lip it will still work and im not to sure if the imco lighter is still air tight just because it covers everything up zippo all the way
the IMCO i love these lighters and will recommenced them to any one. you can use almost any fluid with it i even put gasoline in mine when i don't have lighter fluid. awesome lighter!
Just for laughs and giggles I tried one of the Zippo lighters, smeg near burned my fingers off. I always get a laugh out of Zippo owners, to make up for their dull lighters they have to put pictures on the side and do parlor tricks with them to make them interesting. The IMCO has never let me down. And I love the history. Older than the Zippo, born under the fires of WWI, kept alive by there reliable nature. I always make sure to keep one near me when I go outdoors.
@jbarthol ROFL they put pictures on the side because it looks nice and it is much more famous and reconisable then a "IMCO" If you want reliablity, get a bic. If you want collectability and fun get a zippo, if you want something that is good for nothing, get a IMCO.
@1ohtaf1 I'm sorry but a Bic is in no way reliable. I used to think like you until I was let down by one. Only refillable, real lighters since then for me.
@laddiebuck12 Yeah, once ive had tonnes of bics and even some on the ground still work, the ones i dont i throw away. They are like 4 bucks for a dozen of them.
Ahh the legendary IMCO lighter. I've had one of these in my pocket for over ten years now. Most of the paint came off when I accidentally left it in my pocket when I did the wash. IMCO's are sometimes called the trench lighter as they can trace there heritage to the trench lighters of WWI, and the lighters that were made out of the used brass casings littering the trenches. I love these lighters.
@maxymumcool Trick away to your heart's content. I just want a reliable piece of kit. The Imco is all that. The Zippo needs more refilling than a baby needs feeding, and it won't light in a high wind.
and how can u compare the LEGENDARY ZIPPOS that have been perfected for decades with some stupid lighter that doesnt have a valid argument to say that its better than a zippo
you spent more time talking about the cons of the zippo and favored the Imco before you made the video...and if you were talking to me in the above comment, im not trying to be an asshole, asshole
the IMCO is a more usefull lighter, and the zippo is a more fun lighter (if you can say that lighters are fun) and i like zippo's better but its just dumb to argue about lighters
I dig the IMCO. I've had one given to me a few years ago. Never used it much till recently. I started playing with it and thought it was pretty neat, and in my opinion superior in almost every way to a zippo.
I had one of those IMCO lighters but I threw it away. It's design is flimsy, it's uncomfortable to wear in your pocket because of the sharp edges. It will hurt your thumb if you have open the lid several times to get it lit and it will go out in the wind. This lighter is no match for a Zippo in any aspect.
@iskate199 You are wrong too.... Get the facts straight... it is called _STORM RING_. Check the company webpage if you don't believe. :D
And it's very funny how Zippo fans take this so personally, even so they never used IMCO... I use both, and for camping I prefer IMCO. Zippo is smooth in pocket of your jeans, but I don't use jeans while I'm camping.
@Boar80 I own the flattish Imco. You can't take the fuel tank out as a pipe lighter, but it's great as a cigarette lighter. It has much the same profile as a Zippo, sits well in my small right-hand jeans pocket.
I have both- a Zippo and a Imco- if you want a lighter that looks fine you should buy a Zippo but if you want a more functional lighter you should buy a Imco! The Zippo needs more gas as the Imco and the Imco lights longer than a Zippo!
I use my lighter for tricks...u can't do tricks on an imco...just sayin

I don't find it a pain to refill a zippo or put a new flint in. I prefer the IMCO though because the gas doesn't evaporate as easily. Also, I can't stand that negroid jabber jabber, pidgeon English so called 'music' at the beginning and end and you're very inarticulate. I suggest speech therapy.

I don't think thats a fake. It's just his camera/lighting sucks... everything looks yellow.
trhisdone 1 year ago
Pain in the ass? I take my spring and flints out easily and you dont even need a screwdriver, and refilling it is also really easy. the zippo is from a different era and it is for tricks and collecting, if you want to have a practical lighter then just get a bic.
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
For practicality nothing beats a bic, for collecting and recriational i think the zippo is the most impresive and the imco is kinda good for nothing, as it is in the middle. Kinda like a 4WD made for on road handleing, it doesnt handle as well as a car and it cant go offroad as well as a normal 4x4.
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
depends on ur situation! imco r for camping(lame), while zippos r cool and fun to do tricks with!

if you dont like zippos i will not subscribe
adamchavid 1 year ago
plus they also make a slimline that looks kinda like a cross between the zippo and parker. like some one said these things aren't realy known in the states lol actualy put mine in storage and for the last 5 years off and on done web searches for it *german flip lighter....* and just found it again. love the zippo but for a price of a couple gas station bic's the imco's great too.
potatoradio 1 year ago
Also the adjustable flame is great, it has storage for a spare flint built in. and is probably 1 or 2 tries for ever 100 better on being a 1 strike lighter even in bad weather esp rain because it is lighting as the cover is comming up. Plus it is much better 1 hand lighter anyone can use. and it's design goes back *in a primitive form* to the french ww1 lighters. Plus costs 1/2 to 1/10th the price *where and how many...*. heck ebay you can get 12 new ones for 46 bucks.
potatoradio 1 year ago
I bought a zippo and an imco in the army. The zippo is classic americian, like harley or pump shotgun with an instant recognizeable sound. Camping - or some place where you might sit on or drop something on it the zippo wins. but cause it is long and thin like a bic it slips right in a pack of cigs perfectly.

It's not hard or a pain to refill or change the flint in a Zippo. Plus your zippo is bootleg.
Inv8erZlM 1 year ago 2
@Inv8erZlM I highly doubt Walmart would sell a bootleg zippo in Zippo packaging.
ArmyRanger10 1 year ago
@ArmyRanger10 Then why are your pins a brass color? I always heard from everyone that that's one way you can tell if it's a genuine zippo.

Zippo's work great usually as is but the fuel doesn't last long in them
trhisdone 1 year ago
@trhisdone I Think they use it because it is fire retarded.

Because I have never seen one
shortstuff5110 1 year ago
that lighter that you have there, not the lmco, but the other one. Look at the pins that are to the left and right of the chimney(the one connecting the wheel and the one holding the cover). a real zippo lighter has stainless stell pins not brass(gold looking color), from that either you switched the bolts to brass or you accidently bought a counterfeit.
HolyTrinity777 1 year ago
@HolyTrinity777 I dont think he switched out the riviets, if he already finds refilling a pain taking out the riviets will be impossible.

mustangfootball63 1 year ago
i've got both, i like both.
the imco's cooler though, and the fuel lasts longer in it.
Arnkellj 1 year ago
@Arnkellj i found bics which are 4 years old and still work, practicality, it beats imco.
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
@1ohtaf1 i'm not dissing zippo dude, but i think the imco is still underrated... it's a really nice lighter.
Arnkellj 1 year ago
I did have a zippo and liked it because it lit first time, was windproof and could be lain down and a fire built over it. The IMCO may have the edge when it comes to using heavier fuels. Have you tried it with kerosene or diesel fuel?
The stuffing in the zippo requires repacking (get rid of the layers) so that you get at least two weeks use rather than four days. For hiking/camp, put the lighter inside a sealable box between duties you wont then have problems of fuel loss due to evaporation

Zippo all the way baby i wouldent trade mine for anything in the world, Imco is a good lighter but if you ever held that up t a concert youd get beaten to death =P and as for gas leaking if it worrys you so much just get a regular lighter -_- nothing will ever beat the zippo... ever

ive proven the imco to be more reliable than the zippo in many camping/outdoor activities.
the zippo is a good lighter no dough about it. at the same time the zippo is too expensive for what it gives in return, basically you can buy 3 imcos for the price of the cheapest zippo. yes you can do tricks with it but that dont matter if survival is at stake.
so if u wana be cool get a zippo
if you wana survive get an imco.
good video man.

I always make sure to keep one near me when I go outdoors.
jbarthol 2 years ago 3
@jbarthol ROFL they put pictures on the side because it looks nice and it is much more famous and reconisable then a "IMCO" If you want reliablity, get a bic. If you want collectability and fun get a zippo, if you want something that is good for nothing, get a IMCO.
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
@1ohtaf1 I'm sorry but a Bic is in no way reliable. I used to think like you until I was let down by one. Only refillable, real lighters since then for me.
laddiebuck12 11 months ago
@laddiebuck12 Yeah, once ive had tonnes of bics and even some on the ground still work, the ones i dont i throw away. They are like 4 bucks for a dozen of them.
1ohtaf1 11 months ago
Ahh the legendary IMCO lighter. I've had one of these in my pocket for over ten years now. Most of the paint came off when I accidentally left it in my pocket when I did the wash. IMCO's are sometimes called the trench lighter as they can trace there heritage to the trench lighters of WWI, and the lighters that were made out of the used brass casings littering the trenches. I love these lighters.

wateryouwaitingfor 2 years ago
I had an IMCO Super Triplex as pictured last year. My friend lost it some time ago though.
It's perfect for lighting cigarettes out doors. The windscreen is far superior to that of a Zippo.
While both will maintain a flame, the IMCO's is far more stable with the screen up, as the Zippo's flame sort of just flutters in the wind.
IMCOs tend to be cheaper, too.
DerMannII 2 years ago
@DerMannII And bics or no name butane lighters are cheaper... It is a chimney on a zippo not a "screen"
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
I dig the IMCO. I've had one given to me a few years ago. Never used it much till recently. I started playing with it and thought it was pretty neat, and in my opinion superior in almost every way to a zippo.

what kind of lighter fluid does it use
MegaSuperflyer 2 years ago

ArmyRanger10 2 years ago
I had one of those IMCO lighters but I threw it away. It's design is flimsy, it's uncomfortable to wear in your pocket because of the sharp edges. It will hurt your thumb if you have open the lid several times to get it lit and it will go out in the wind. This lighter is no match for a Zippo in any aspect.
drjandoedel 2 years ago 14
Imco sucks dick. And buddy its not called a windscreen its called a chimney. get you facts straight.
iskate199 2 years ago 3
@iskate199 You are wrong too.... Get the facts straight... it is called _STORM RING_. Check the company webpage if you don't believe. :D
And it's very funny how Zippo fans take this so personally, even so they never used IMCO... I use both, and for camping I prefer IMCO. Zippo is smooth in pocket of your jeans, but I don't use jeans while I'm camping.
Boar80 11 months ago
@Boar80 I own the flattish Imco. You can't take the fuel tank out as a pipe lighter, but it's great as a cigarette lighter. It has much the same profile as a Zippo, sits well in my small right-hand jeans pocket.
