  • lol. ohio is like the yankee Alabama. I've been there. Same pride, same salt. Guess what. we are all the same. Northern Hemisphere folk.

  • love the guitar on the intro. those chords are lush!

  • LOVE IT!!! beats anything bt Skynard

  • he is just being a nirthen arse hole.He is so pretencious.Stay away from the beautiful south. It does not need him anyway.

  • Neil Speaks the truth......have you EVER read a history book?

  • Hear the dynamic range? That's when there's more of a difference between the loudest sounds and the softest sounds. Today's music doesn't have that, too compressed. Volumes are the same thru the entire song.

  • Ignoring the non-existent feud, this song is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

  • he's speaking about the long history of racism in the south and how it's prevented the south from catching up with everyone else. the north gravely damaged the south in the civil war; in some ways it's still trying to recover.

  • @demilieu Its obvious that you haven't been to the South in a few years. As a New Englander, I am impressed with the New South but I am sure that there are a few 'Red Necks' around like the 'Swamp Yankees' in the North

  • What did the south ever do to Neil Young?

  • neil young hurts my ears wheres a gun quick

  • @Afrolunatic ill shoot you just to get your ass outta here

  • @Afrolunatic Is someone forcing you to listen?

  • Yelawolf is from alabama and is a southern man so i guess hes a cross burning racist lol hes sure in the wrong genre of music then

  • What on this earth is moving people to make remarks that hurt others? Neil was right in the end, racism does never die. Shame on you racists.

  • your just mad because you are one of those "niggers" btw in my book a nigger isnt a black person its anybody that does what i described in my last comment. also no one calls me a piece of white trash and lastly its not stereotyping i walk through the halls of my school and see it every day

  • @dcguitar357 ah if you've seen it at school then it must be true everywhere else? dumbass

  • im a southern man and i dont hate black people i have many black freinds i hate niggers a nigger is that douche bag with his fucking pants on the ground, you cant understand half the shit they say and they use the word "nigga" in every fucking scentence and thay dont always have to be black. thats who i hate

  • @dcguitar357 when you put it like that...you are a racist piece of shit. hold impressions by individuals you meet or stereotypes will continue to exist and people will continue to call you a racist piece of white trash.

  • @htime9119 1 no one calls me a racicist piece of white trash 2 your just mad because you are one of those "niggers" btw i thought i got this across last time, nigger in my book isint a black person its any person that does all the thingsi described in my last comment.and its not stereotyping i walk through the halls of my school and see it every day

  • @dcguitar357 yeah i'm a nigger. White kid from new hampshire who goes to a pretty white college in cali. but you are in high school so you must know everything you racist piece of white TRASH.

  • @htime9119 and your a white tool from new hampshire bye dumb ass im done talkin 2 u

  • @dcguitar357 your black friends should punch the dumb off your face for even using that word. perhaps you think you mean stupid rather than black when you use the word, and consequently are stopping it being a racial phrase, but to use the word as an insult is disgusting period.

  • E LEì E LEì CAZZO! CHE SCHìFO MA MìO PADRE DìCE COSìì.. XD

  • baawawwwwwww bawawwww!!!

  • Bernard Shakey

  • I heard ole neil sing about her!....................... A southern man dont need him around anyhow!

  • Some of the openning guitar reminds me of "Ohio".

  • I don't see this (hear this?) as a putdown of the south. "The devil fools with the best-laid plans." It seems sympathetic and loving to me. Of course it didn't seem that way to Gov Wallace, but that's because Wallace was defending his own crazyagenda which he did renounce before he died. Maybe Neil Young's lovingness in this song helped Wallace recant; who knows?

  • I love Sweet Home Alabama because I can listen to it loud, and the

angry-southerners let me because they think the song celebrate them. I smile, knowing the real Skynyrd

  • @AziraphaleDB Hmm -- why not share your enlightenment with the world -- after all, Skynyrd is a SOUTHERN rock band ... and some might even say, they were a bit angry in their day and gave the finger to the man from a southern perspective more than a few times. And just who are these angry southerners -- anyone from the south that plays their music loud? So, enlighten us with your wisdom.

  • @iriewaregl Yeah, just a bit angry. I never heard Skynard live ( stayed home with kids) but I remember how excited people were by those shows. People thought the revolution would start RIGHT THEN, that the crowd would just flood out of the auditorium, liberate the prisoners (conveniently only a block from auditorium), and DO IT (whatever IT was). Some people that went to every concert told me Skynard was more righteous than theStones! I don't do those comparisons, love both bands.

  • neil young and ronnie van zant both had a friendly rivalry. neil even said "i'm proud to have my name in a song like theirs." they even tried to have him go on stage with skynyrd and sing with them, they are both amazing and awesome, and they both made AMAZING music. R.I.P. Lynyrd Skynyrd

  • well we don't need Lynyrd Skynrd around anyway

  • Im a southern man and im not at all racist however I am with the south on many other things because I was southern born and southern raised but I love Neil Young and I understand exactly what this song and southern man are talking about. They are not down talking the south they are saying to the racist pigs in the south that they should walk in a black mans shoes before hating... I understand and agree completely

  • @1DarkPunk do you sound like Chief Gillespie on In the Heat of the Night (1967 movie)? hummmm??????

  • @billboardnumber1 Whats that suppose to mean?

  • @1DarkPunk then it should be called a few southern men not southern man that refers to ne man in the south

  • Comment removed

  • @Afrolunatic a few southern men better keep your head... the intro lyrics would sound like shit plus back in the 60s and 70s the south was still a very bad place for blacks and for long haired hippies...

  • @1DarkPunk You phrased that funny.

  • @1DarkPunk so it is

  • @1DarkPunk Right on! Honest man. In my country there are some pigs too. Not everybody though.

  • @1DarkPunk I hate it when people say all southerns are raceist and we owned slaves, well, dang, who do you THINK owned slaves? Poor people? HELL no! There were WAY more people in the north who were rich and therefor they had more slaves up there than down here! Only 10% of ALL southerners owned slaves all those hundreds of years ago!!! So Neil Young, and the song, was wrong to stereotype us no matter how many ways you look at it.

  • @THEgreatCORNHOLIO245 Have you ever heard the stories about the south in the 60s? Men with long hair were being shaved with rusty straight razors and blacks were being hanged for no reason at all. I dont know how many times I will have to argue with people on this song. The south was a rough place for long hairs and the civil rights movement. We seen what happened to JFK (The biggest supporter of the civil rights movement) and Martin Luther King Jr when they took the new freedom to the south.

  • @THEgreatCORNHOLIO245 when did he say all southeners are racist in this song? he was very subtly highlighting the race problems in the south. if you aren't racist then it obviously doesn't apply to you, but maybe you could help to heal the problem, rather than having a period over a song.

  • hes just telling a story.... its mostly true try listening and not getting defensive. They had a Gov. who called out the state militia to to stop African-Americans from attending a school. History is a bitch....

  • well im white in sc. an its all good an i didnt vote for none of them haha my heart goes out to all in alabama an the torn states an im thankful they didnt hit us like that , God bless you an im sorry for your loss so many lives we cant change but well i hope you get through it an well im sorry for your loss.

  • The windows aren't down in Alabama anymore... more like blown out

  • this song sucks and southern man too .... if you don't like go back to canada !!! Lynyrd skynyrd is best

  • @TheSouthernrock without those 2 songs you would have never heard 'Sweet Home Alabama'....these guys were mutual admirers, there was no feud, Ronnie is wearing a Neil 'Tonight's the Night" T-Shirt on his last album cover, performed in it often and legend says was buried in it.

  • @blindriv3r Correct. And Neil says, the first time he heard 'Sweet Home' he really loved the beginning and the guitars. Then he said, 'Then I heard my name in there and I thought, 'This is really great!' Neil has a great sense of humor

  • @TheSouthernrock sometimes a song must be appretiated for being a great musical piece not for it's meaning and sometimes not

  • @TheSouthernrock Don't get all butt hurt just because Neil Young made a few songs that show the south for what it actually is, it's no reason to lie to everyone on this video, telling us how you don't like the song. We all know you do. It's a fucking masterpiece.

  • @TheSouthernrock

hey now, what's wrong with Canada?

  • Comment removed

  • @TheSouthernrock Lynrd skynyrd sucks, that song sweet home alabama is the only song they got famous for and they stole the riff from wolves of londen, they did listion to it and look at when they were made. the song is also anoying as fuck. alabama still has kkk and nazi rallys all the time.

that song did not defend alabama at all, they just told neil young to mind his own buissnuiss, but why when innocent people are being put down and there lives are at risk?

  • @TheInfamousCanadian Lynyrd Skynyrd has tons of songs they are famous for lol. Skynyrd was popular throughout the heartland and south. There are Nazi rallies in California too, and just about every other state, and Nova Scotia is full of racists lol. Fucking Canadians don't got their shit straight and are faster to take in media stereotypes than Oprah on a bucket of fried chicken.

  • @TheInfamousCanadian In our defense the Alabama chapter of the KKK disbanded earlier this year lol. Alabama is and does just fine when people keep their noses out of our business.

  • @TheInfamousCanadian Before you talk nonsense about Lynyrd Skynyrd, you need to get your facts straight. Lynyrd Skynyrd is considered one of the greatest bands of all time not because sweet home alabama, but because of many other songs. If you would stop being so ignorant you would know this. Lynyrd Skynyrd was not about racism actually they were totally against racism which is why they wrote Sweet Home Alabama. Neil Young is a great artist, who will be listened to forever just like Skynyrd.

  • @lsunationalchamps08 Sweet Home Alabama was witten in response to Neil's song SOUTHERN MAN. YOU are the ignorant one Bonehead!!! Don't spout off about shit you have no idea about.

  • @madmaz2555 No shit it was written in response to Southern Man!! Did i ever say different?? You dumb fuck, learn how to read!!

  • @lsunationalchamps08 Your quote you fucking MORON !!! "they were totally against racism which is why they wrote Sweet Home Alabama."" You are a brainless fucking IDIOT !!!! Stupid asshole!

  • Southern man dont need him around, anyhow.

    See what I did there?

  • i hate rednecks

  • Comment removed

  • @Napoleoniscrazy Napoleon hatred is passe baby let that shit go - just eats ya up inside, besides what the bunghole spew is a 'redneck' - they assemble BMW's in Alabama these days man - the song is 40 years old. They have come a long way but not all the way since then. 'Make friends in Alabama' - America need less division not more.

  • @SmileyGarrish Well said - but, actually BMWs are made in South Carolina. Mercedes & redneck stuff like the International Space Station & NASA things are being built here :) Plus, we have the nation's highest % of African American elected officials. So yeah - things have changed considerably - but, that does not dismiss the genius of this song and "Southern Man." Now, if we can just come up with a shield protecting us from torndoes & pompous attitudes all would be fine! :) Peace from Alabama!

  • @Napoleoniscrazy LARRY THE CABLE GUY?!?!?! O_O

  • ungrateful

  • One of the best NY's song. Thanks

  • Thanks. Sounds like good quality

  • I agree with you, i think the same thing :)

  • I want to thank RockkkV2 for uploading this song onto YouTube. I love this as well as Southern Man. Both songs are some of the best from Neil Young.
