  • I forgot how good the Arsenio Hall show was. Maaaaaaaaan!!!!

  • This video > anything today...improve at its best!

  • The bass player in the band is thinking "I'm glad he doesn't come on the show ever week" lol

  • Gregory Hines is the only man on the planet who made/makes tap dancing bad ass!!

  • Je viens de découvrir cette vidéo, par "basstheworld";

  • this is so so so nasty!!!!!

  • Plse Furldman! Could you tell me when this is from? He was a kind of 'revelation' for me to see in the musical world around -79 i NYC when I lived there. The main one has been filmed, w/ the original cast. But not yet released. Financial shortage, I guess, and I'm trying to write sth and present to some people 'in the buisness' to see if I can be part of that to happen. It just has to be done!

  • @eveoffortune Google search for "stanley clarke arsenio hall" turned up 1993.

  • @jacknarcotta Thank you so much! Really appreciate your trouble!!

  • God bless the person who posted this! Hadn't seen it since it aired and NEVER forgot about it. So wonderful seeing it again.

  • ohhhhhhhhh niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice

  • Cool jazz & tap = a cool CLASSIC combo !!!

  • Wow, what is going with talent today?

  • Stanley has a unique technique when playing the bass and he has such a distictive sound due to that... And we love it!

  • Lovely!

  • I first got this CD around '92 and always loved this duet based on the audio only. But now actually seeing it performed live is SUPER AWESOME.

I think I'll now put White Nights, The Cotton Club and Return to Forever: Returns - Live at Montreux as my top priorities for video watching.

  • That was excellent! We miss you Gregory!

  • he's good but nothing on Mark King

  • @ghbluesboy and yet mark king was inspired by/learned from stanley... They're both greats.

  • Mark King is supremely great, but this guy is iconic to solo bass revolution that he created. Only Jaco can be compared to him in terms of influence. He has more music in his head than King.

  • "Bark it up y'all"!

That had sooooo much heart. What a great pairing of talents!!!

  • its an Alembic bass

  • It's refreshing to see great talented footage like this. I remember this. Thanks for posting.

  • I love it

  • Man, I miss Gregory. That was magic.

  • This is a Blessed Performance. Gregory Hines was so open as a performer, he makes it look fun as it should be. Thank You for the Post! Arsenio had a good show too.

  • what sort of bass is that?

  • Alembic :)

  • I am re-inspired every time I see this!

  • that gregory hines never had a big head about things

he just let his talent do the talking

    R I P

  • Damn, do we miss you, Gregory!! this man was magical...and discovering videos like this, with the extraordinary Stanley Clarke... is why I can't stay off YouTube. Incredible talent!

  • Wow! what a special moment in time. Thanks to videos like that, Greg will live forever. My closest friend met him and other actors during the makind of the movie "A Rage in Harlem" filmed in Cincinnati. Says he was the most down to earth fellow you ever met. Then we got Stanley on the bass. I've tried to play "School Daze" on the bass for years. I get to a certain point and he just leaves me in the dust! I've seen the video and he does it so effortlessly!!!

  • I Have been looking for this ,thanks for posting this .I remember the night this was on

  • I remember when this aired. Little known fact, Arsenio Hall is a bass player too.

  • First listened to this on Stanley Clarke's album " If my bass could only talk. Always beautifully funky.

  • You haven't had fun until you've heard Clarke's rendition of "Stairway to Heaven". Basically, he played the bass line AND lead guitar parts on an 8-string bass. The definition of BADASS.

  • Umm, you might be thinking of Stanley Jordan.

  • Doggone it! You're right... Ah well, the man is still kickass. I'm not all that convinced they're not the same person. Both named Stanley (like the power drill), both unusually good with guitars, both containing an enormous amount of undiluted WIN in their veins.

  • What a match made in heaven! We lost a great dancer, but thank God we've still got the Clarke fingers to appreciate!

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT !!!

    Thnx 4 posting !

  • yep this is the real bees knees

  • Thank You for posting this!!
