  • I have a '86 944 N/A, and would love to have the V8 conversion. Whats the name of the shop that can do this conversion?

  • The complete kit with a brand new crate engine is around 14 grand from 944online, but I suspect that there may be other kits or ways of doing this, regardless, nice porsche.

  • How much is an ls kit for my 87 porsche 944? I heard its like 7 grand ;o

  • Chuck Norris has one of these...

  • Not a GM fan, buts thats killer!

  • @M1911A1 Thank you! 1911s rule by the way.

  • @scv8dvc Well there's the 1911 .45 and then there's this! I had no idea you could put a ls engine in this car, we used to have one but some dumb ass t-boned it years ago.

  • Tell us about the wiring....that would be the difficult part

  • Tell us about the wiring....that,s what would make it difficult

  • was it a hard swap and are you using the stock gearbox ?

  • @rs200000000000 It's a relatively simple swap. I'm using a stock 944 Turbo gearbox. I changed the 5th gear out to the N/A gear as it's taller.

  • @scv8dvc can you buy mounts and part or do you have to make them your self, im supprised the 944 gearbox will take the power i mean the ls2 has alot of torque

  • @scv8dvc

if anyone here has done this conversion, i will appreciate if you can email so i can ask you a few things. please

i am currently in the process of doing a V* swap to my 944 but need some help.

    fox351gt@yahoo.com

    thanks

  • how do u get it to work with transaxle?

  • Did you swap a turbo tranny in there?

  • Just curious; what does this do to the weight distribution?

  • @tpaladino makes it better since the lsx weighs less than the iron block that was previously in there :)

  • @tpaladino well apparently the 944 engine was aluminum but I still heard that they were quite heavy, especially the turbo models (cast iron header to handle the turbo)

  • @smgman13 pretty sure they were all stainless. my 951 header is stainless steel. the turbo is on the opposite side from the header

  • this is not a ls1 ls1 came in the c5 vetts but it is a gm gen 3 ls engine

  • @copleygsxr A LS1 Engine is a Gen3 engine, it is the third generation of small block chevy motor or SBC.

  • @k9forkids ls1 came in the corvette 5.7L Their is the 4.8 5.3 6.0 and so on they are a gen 3 ls "type" engines not ls1 as in my previous post

  • loving the sounddd

  • German Car ! Best Car ... ;)

  • people will put an LS1 in anything these days

  • @Konformation07 Because the LS1 is a huge bargain!

  • @Konformation07 hell ya brotha, there are so many otherwise gorgeous cars that have few performance parts that can cost thousands of dollars to only slightly change the performance. if you turbo'd a stock 944 and did the exhaust it would cost as much as swapping a ls1 into it and you would still be at less power and less potential

  • @Konformation07 YES!, even my 2000 Monte Carlo---- rear wheel drive now...

  • @rockyghfdet2000 How did you make your monte rear wheel drive? I have an 04 monte

  • The LSx is the perfect engine for the 944/951. DVC... nice job. Very clean install.

    TonyG

  • me and my dad were gonna swap a V8 in ours but we are on a tight budget so what would be the best for the money? A LT-1 then cam it or just spend the extra and get an LS whatever.

  • @MangoSmoothie16 Budget budget? Mabye an old 383.

  • @DarkLinkAD possibly. I think Im just gonna save for an LS1 or LS2 so if I sell the porsche I can put the 4cyl back in and keep the V8 for an old camaro or vette

  • I have a 944 Turbo S AND a Miata. Am I some sort of fag-hybrid?

  • Sweeet! looks FACTORY!

  • Fuck a Miata, only Faggots drive Miata's

  • crapped my pants

  • chills

  • 1 word, amazing

  • She's Beautful 944! "have you seen 'Lil Cristina ? she's driving Vovette! and for those that do not know Porsche is a TWO syllable word

  • I have read that the 944 transaxle's gear ratios are not well suited to a V8. Is that so? I have a 95 944 and a LT1 but have not swapped it because I cannot get an asnwer on thie. Thank You Very Much.

  • all i have to say for people looking into a porsche LS swap, go to Renegade Hybrids website. They have it all for you.

  • thats why you should use the 951 trans

  • Tidy engine bay, wonderful sounds. :)

  • Sweet conversion, even the factory tacho works, nice job!!!

  • It is a legit kit from renegade hybrids.

You can do this to a 944, rx7, or even a miata (monster miata)

I would preferr the miata for track but 944 for looks

  • you sir are retarted. the 944 handles way better. it can do this thing called turning because it has 50/50 weight distribution. with a V8 it has like 52/48. a miata has 40/60 then put in an engine that wieghs more than the car?

  • Ls1 weighs 400 lbs fully dressed. Just FYI.

  • You numpty, an LS1 would not have a noticeable effect on a Miata's handling, the Miata engine weighs 385 by itself!

Not to mention, the LS1 is shorter front to back, and therefore can be mounted further back in the engine bay to make up for the slight weight increase (Less than a passenger!)

    Everyone needs to learn:

IF THESE SWAPS SCREWED THE HANDLING, NO ONE WOULD DO THEM.

  • @Sephirius

LS1 weighed by friend with all accessories attached (all liquids, A/C, P/S, Alternator, wiring harness, etc..) it's exactly 480 Ibs (without liquids 455 Ibs). General Motors claimed 450 Ibs (Turn on key) of course without g-box.

  • @Sephirius

Pretty sure its 450lbs fully dressed which is very light for a v8

  • @Sephirius yet the trolls still cry

  • @bandoboy32 no the ratio is pretty much the same with the V8.. i didnt beleive but if you look at the weight of the engines thers not much of a difference, the 944 is slightly heavier in back anyways

  • I hear the LS engines are very light, this, coupled with the perfect weight distribution and handling, = MEGA DESTRUCTO-BLACK-HOLE-OPENER car

  • @Pwned000 It was a perfect weight distribution with the 4-cylinder in it... now though, it is most likely a nose heavy monster.

However, that one draw back would cretainly not be enough to deter me from owning a swapped 944 like this!

I do see something like a Supra's or Skylines inline 6 sitting lower in the bay a more reasonable option for street use though.

Or maybe a newer Boxster engine?

    Still an awesome car though!

  • @circutracer150 apparently the LS1 weighs 400 pounds, the 944's weighs 340

  • @Pwned000 Well I'll be damned... and from further research, the LS2 would sit further down in the bay too, giving it an even lower center of gravity...

  • how does that handle with the extra weight up front? i know with the 4 cyl it had a near 50/50 weight distribution.

  • Comment removed

  • Omg..ok dude lol guys...seriously. I see this vid and i FUCKING lol...i LAUGH, this shit is soo tight, its also soo fucking funny. FUCK lol!!! big ass v8 in a 944, no idea how its done but this shit is tight.

  • ok so how much was the engine swap? i have a 944 and that would be sweet to pop a v8 into it.

i see alot of LS1 & 2 conversions. whats the difference and why this engine?

    Thanks

  • my daily driver is a stock 944 85.5, i have a conversion twin in the garage, exaust cut offs, stripped of all unneccesary weight! the front end i made myself, with a large vacuform machine, i vacked the original pieces, then glued 0.36 mill aluminum strips for bolt and screw holes, filled with expandable foam, trimed after dried, hod had to glue vacked plastic piece to ply-wood cut like original support, i took almost 900 lbs out, i race this 1 after i bait with the stock 1! 0-60 3.6!!

  • did these cars ever come with any kind of V8 engine from porshe because there is a red one in my neighborhood that has an hks exhaust on it but it has a V8 and i don't think the guy did a swap in it.

  • It's a 928. It's a slightly bigger versions of the 944 with a big V8. Te 924, 944 and 968 were all with straight 4's.

  • thanks

  • Did you read on some of his inventions dual fuil and computer controled all the pumps lines and tanks dyno tuned fits under a stock hood one of the best builders in the world

  • 944 with an ls2? sweet

  • a 944 dresed up in a bowtie going out on the town lol

  • What kind of brake booster is that?

  • i love my 944...so much

  • Nice work... love it.

  • wow its look like it doing a wheelie

  • sweet ride! i would love to do an SBC or ls1 in my 924S, then later swap it into a 944 when i find a decent one. For the record, the ls2 is a little better choice because of the 4 inch bore. allows us of the better factory heads and more efficient cylinder filing as compared to the smaller bore of the ls1. plus it makes about 60 more hp and a lot more torque from the factory!

  • Yeah, i have read as well that the LS-1 is about 70 lbs heavier than the NA 944 motor, and only about half that if the 944 has a stock turbo motor.

  • does a swap like this set off the weight distribution?

  • Doubtful. Apart from being under 500 pounds fully dressed, it's also a pushrod V-block engine...one of the most space efficient engine designs ever...meaning most of the engines mass fits behind the front wheels in virtually any RWD car it's swapped into...especially any car that originally held a long, narrow inline engine.

  • yup ls1=350 hp , ls2=364-400hp(but the ls2 might be specifically 400 hp, but 6.0l ranges from 365-400)

  • I've read a few different places that the LS1 is only about 70lbs heavier than stock. So in other words, not much at all. Also, from the factory the LS1 has a 51 pound flywheel(51!) You can get a lightweight flywheel that weighs about 12lbs for a nearly 40lbs weight reduction. That would put it very close to stock weight with a simple, relatively inexpensive mod.

  • I had no idea it had such a heavy flywheel, then again I've never gotten that deep into the motor

  • ls2 6.0 liter , ls1 5.7 liter

  • what are the different standards of an LS1 And LS2?No I'm serious about this...

  • I guess this is one way to test how strong the LSD 944 Transmission is! Everyone says its bulletproof and if it can handle all that torque then I believe it. My 944 turbo is in great original shape however if it wasn't I might consider this engine, I just worry its really heavy...

  • nelson racing engins will make an alumunum one for ya they hav a 4.3 V6 doing 1076 hp. thats lighter lol

  • lol wheelspin.

  • damn!!! LISTEN to that pull from 2nd to 3rd. One day my 87 n/a will pull that hard.

  • Awesome... i think i saw pictures of this car on rennlist yesterday, or was dreaming about it last night... i dont remeber
