I'm so sorry you had the opportunity to get such "good" video Taylor. I can only hope that you, your family, and your home survived with minimal damage. I've just read that the Santa Anna winds are picking up, and pushing the containment date back AgAiN. :(
Sending positive energy from southern Saskatchewan...
that sucks every year there has to be a fire in southern california espicially in Los Angeles and the smoke is covering my city and i live 100 miles away in Fillmore,CA it went from sunny to dark and smelled like burnt tire but that happened here to once in 2005 all of Fillmore was surrounded by fire and it was raining ash :(
no idont think so that was like a week ago and yeah it actualy did happen some guy left his burner on at his weed farm you could smell it from lancaster
for God sake call Bombardier, have them send a couple of 415 water bomber and you'll save your forest and your houses......does anybody really thinks this is going to go way with 2 or 3 helicos??????
The Station Fire was named so because it started near a forest station. They usually name them for streets or landmarks, etc. The fire in La Canada is the Station Fire that spread.
Does anyone know why its called the "Station Fire"? Everyone seems to be using the name, but I can't find a single explanation on The Internets for it.
god...im so scared right now im so close to this fire its not even funny. n i think we need to evacuate soon if not tomarrow :(
u always see these kinds of things on tv but never think itll happen to u... i can see all the flames from our house and i just dont know what to do and i dont wanna leave home but we might have to :[
I live in the O.C and where i live it looks blocks away and it looks like an Adam Bomb its sureal i prey for the Fire Fighters that lost there lives and if this is arson i hope the person/persons get charged with murder.
My HotShot Team is getting deployed down here, not looking forward to it, extreme fire behavior without Santa Ana winds! If those winds pick up all of Southern CA will be on fire.
I live in northern altadena and the fires are now moving away from my house. Hopefully the wind doesn't change and the fire burns itself out before it reaches Acton.
I grew up in La Crescenta right up close and personal to these mountains. My mom still lives in that house. Does anyone else remember the big fire in the Angeles Crest Forest in the 1970's? I was an elementary school kid when that happened, but don't remember the year. What year did that fire happen? I also remember the huge mudslides the following very wet winter. The mudslides got more houses than the fire did.
The Station Fire is absolutely humongous. 35,000 acres and counting. Slight winds and inversion layer are keeping the smoke trapped in the area. As the fire reaches the bottom of a ravine and begins climbing toward the next ridge, it burns faster. It sends a plume of white smoke up through the grayish smoke. Just amazing to witness that.
I live on the south side Sunland. The fire has spread west from La Canada and is now on the mountains directly north of my home. I'm about 2 miles south of it. I drove north on Mt. Gleason, the entrance to Big Tujunga Cyn. where I was interviewed by NBC news this morning.
It also spread east past JPL into the mountains above Altadena as of last night. It was weird to drive home from Pasadena last night & see all the fires from east to west.
the street above mine was evacuated at 3am today, hopefully i dont have to evacuate.... but ya this fire is right behind my house, you can see the smoke from Huntington Beach!!
Same here I live in the SGV and you can see it easily. Yesterday I was at the Puente Hills Mall and you could see two ridgelines just in flames, I couldn't tell where though.
Thanks man! :D I decided it would be nice to go out every hour to hour and a half and just record 5 mins or so of it and throw it all in a vid, just to show how the fire progressed and (hopefully soon) dies down. :)
i live right next to the fire in la canada good thing my house didnt burn

its called the station fire because it started near a fire observation station. I hope the Mt. Wilson observatory and the transmission towers are ok.

This is really good footage that you've captured; especially the closeups. (Particularly around 2:05. That shot looks like a volcano!)
Do you live in La Canada? You took all of this footage from your roof? If so, all I can say is, you were pretty damned close to this fire. Wow.
