It's obviously a fake : connexions hidden by a glove, Dreamcast gamepad used which is plugged in the second port and another cable of a DC gamepad going from the console (First port?) to out of the camera sight (so, somebody could synchronize with this guy and press the buttons matching his movements).

I actually went to Midway and saw him working on this project. While I was there, I got to play Mortal Combat in the lunchroom. I thought Midway was great until they totally ripped Pat off. This is really cool to see an early invention like this finally make it to the big time -- too bad Pat Goschy didn't seem to benefit. I found two patents with Goschy as an inventor, both assigned to Midway. Neither of the patents seemed to directly cover WII. The patents are about using accelerometers in a gun, and all the claims that I read require the device to have a light sensor to detect where you are aiming the gun, which is different that what is shown in the video.

Kudos, btw, for being able to use google and wikipedia...Spacewar! as an entertainment product was an accident, but probably a world changing accident. It wasn't meant to be a video game, as it was a demonstration of black hole physics simulated on a computer. However, users found entertainment in using the simulation, and thus the concept was born. Still, very interesting origin. Amazing what information you pick up when attending GDC and game dev. classes

lol i think its cool to see where the technology comes from. Some guy in shorts thought up the idea and invented a way to utilize it to use for games on his dreamcast. Respect for that! I think Nintendo is total gayness for having to work on their Wii-mote and still not getting the delay right this dude is talking about in a 8 years old movieclip!!!

This is really cool to see an early invention like this finally make it to the big time -- too bad Pat Goschy didn't seem to benefit. I found two patents with Goschy as an inventor, both assigned to Midway. Neither of the patents seemed to directly cover WII. The patents are about using accelerometers in a gun, and all the claims that I read require the device to have a light sensor to detect where you are aiming the gun, which is different that what is shown in the video.

I wrote that before i realized that sega just kinda fadded out and are still developing games on other systems, i just kinda thought thats what happend sence alot of sonic game where coming out on nintendo stuff then i saw ones on Xbox and did some reserch Sega still owns the sonic rights but dont make consoles any more just game and make them for different systems

Yes, the first generation of interactive video entertainment started in the US. However, thanks to the influences and improvements provided by many countries (not just Japan or the US), video games have become what they are. It is important, and a point of pride, to know the origin. However, to hold on to something so trivial and not acknowledge others' accomplishments is just narrow.

Kudos, btw, for being able to use google and wikipedia...Spacewar! as an entertainment product was an accident, but probably a world changing accident. It wasn't meant to be a video game, as it was a demonstration of black hole physics simulated on a computer. However, users found entertainment in using the simulation, and thus the concept was born. Still, very interesting origin. Amazing what information you pick up when attending GDC and game dev. classes

SpaceWar was before my time, but I grew up during the birth of videogames and was lucky enough to participate in some of its development. I have every intention of getting back into it. BTW, I know the guy who started the GDC, he used to fap to porn where I worked.

Fully electronic television was "invented" by Farnsworth and Zworkin (American and Russian born American), but they weren't the first to transmit moving pictures. Their work built on the ideas of many other people from many other countries. Baird, (Scottish), Jenkins (American),Swinton (English), Nipkow (Russian and so on back to Faraday.
That's the way technology advances.

This guy worked for Midway, he had his name on a couple of patents due to this system, but Midway OWNED the patents. Midway SOLD the patents to Nintendo, who added their own patented technology to produce the wiimote.
