Johnny Cash - I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day / Silent Night

JC remarked that this was his favorite Christmas song. Johnny was a huge admirer of Henry Longfellow, who wrote the words.

In 1863, Longfellow watched helplessly as his wife Fanny burned to death in a fire. Several months later, he received news that his son Charles (who had joined the Union Army without his permission) had been paralyzed from wounds in battle.

It was December of 1864 when Longfellow finally came to terms with his grief and depression, and wrote these words.

I've heard several melodies to this carol, but this is the one I remember as a boy in 1944,
