She's definitely part of the family! It's good for them to help out and be familiar. The more used to clambering about they are on dry land (still with the danger of a big fall so they have to take care) they will be confident on the water. It's also just more fun when you do things as a family as you know. Cheers, Lesley
Ooh I suppose it was pretty windy again today if I think about it, really whips the water up. I'll make an update when we do some work on her and of course if I can film our first sail next year I will! Cheers, Lesley
It was what we call rather fresh! She's a beautiful but very old lady and after all that hard work getting her into bed, we really enjoyed the sunset. Cheers *hands over warming rum*, Lesley
You WILL tell me off now, as I should be asleep.. but I have a spell of insomnia.. so guess I'll be tired again tonight! It's a lovely boat, nice to see the prep, what goes in to it all.. and I must say I hope to see the follow up, come spring!! If I ever go to Felixstowe, I'll keep an eye out.. :)
Difficult dealing with insomnia. I found a thing which works like acupressure called 'isocones' from Boots they worked really well. You stick them on each wrist like a plaster for the night and they press on a spot. Felixstowe Ferry boatyard is free for anyone to wander round and is very interesting. Cheers, Lesley
I hope to do that one day soon, when the better weather comes back.. Have done some housework now, taken Barney for a walk and cleared my mind! NOW it's time for a good few hours sleep, I hope.. :)
When you said "success" it sounded like you were really happy to have finished the job:) Being out in the wind has a way of draining the energy out of you. Glad you got her tucked in for the winter. I'll be looking forward to a video cruise next year!
Yeah I've pulled my shoulder so wasn't even sure we could manage it without my dad here. But where there's a will there's a way. It was delayed by us all being ill so the clear weather was the right chance. I feel like she's safe now and not 'catching cold' out of the water with her cover on. Cheers, Lesley
Boats always seem to mean a lot of work but it's enjoyable doing it as a family. It poured down all morning then cleared at lunchtime so we managed our job with the air so clear. Then the sunset at the end was all the more beautiful. Cheers, Lesley
To me half the fun of doing things is doing them as a family. No matter how small the contribution it really does help to get the job done. Hannah came in really handy for lacing the bit of cover at the front after we got off the boat and forgot to do it. Joe held her up above his head and she did it! Cheers, Lesley
I had to scramble over some boat jumble to get a clear view as we're so boxed in with other boats, but it was so worth it. Saw a fantastic sunrise yesterday but didnt' think to take a picture, just showed the kids! Cheers, Lesley
There you go that's where your conquering destructive genes come from LOL. She's a fine vessel and her crew make me proud. Even though Hannah is so small she worked hard on Sunday and was really useful. The kids got the job of passing the ropes under the boat to fasten on the cover, less bending for adults, job well done. Now where's the rum? Cheers, Lesley
My currency translator on the sofa said about $300 American. That's to lift her out, wash her bottom and take her mast down. Anything to do with the boat costs money LOL. We were thinking our last trip cost about $1000 a mile all things considered! But you have to pay for unique style don't you? Cheers, Lesley
Rob you need to get your rest too you're still recovering. Save your strength for that darned robot, he better not go after Leola or I'll have to unleash my inner tigress. Cheers, Lesley
We'll be happy to welcome you aboard in the spring Pip, once we've got her all ship shape again. She an old lady and she works hard for the summer. Right now she needs a really long winter sleep, but we'll keep checking in on her. Cheers, Lesley
All tucked away safe and sound! A winter job well worth doing for the unveiling and sailing come spring! I think I will have to make the trip for the first spring sail...:-)
We will have some work to do to get her back in the water. She's such an old lady she needs quite a bit to make her presentable! I noticed the paint is off down to the wood in places so we'll have all that to do. It is always fun working on her with the kids, they helped paint the decks this year. Glad to have you along in the spring. Cheers, Lesley
I should come early and help with getting her ready for spring! *looking for my paint brush* Pay for my sail, as it were...:-) I guess I shouldn't have invited myself, but at that moment, I REALLY wanted to go on the spring sail...LOL You are so sweet to take my intrusion with such grace. *hugs*
Caylyn the first sail can be fairly boring as you're just tinkering getting everything back working. But I will certainly film it if possible so anyone who wants to can join us that way. Now I don't have to worry about how small the boat is for all these people who want to join in LOL. I only saw your enthusiasm, no intrusion. L
Nancy you have a date. I mean you'll already be in Felixstowe so you wouldn't have to travel! She's a lovely old girl and even has a toilet on board. Sailing up the river can be wonderful, getting out to sea is a bit more of an endeavour and not something we'll do with the kids till they're more confident. Cheers, Lesley
When will you be able to uncover her and go sailing again? Not having that all year long would certainly bring a higher level of appreciation when you do get to go sailing.
She'll be out of the water until the Spring (about May) so it's only a short sailing season. But we're looking forward to sailing her and sleeping on her a lot next year. The kids are both old enough to enjoy her now, Hannah had her first sail this year, it was great. Cheers, Lesley
We certainly have some tales to tell David. But it's a bit like fishermen and the size of the one that got away! We've only been sailing on her once as a whole family as Hannah was only just big enough this year. Yes it's good to have her safe and sound where we can check on her if there's a storm. Cheers, Lesley
She a beauty. I hope she is safe and sound for the winter. Please make a video of your first voyage in the spring. What a lovely sunset as well. Enjoyed. Cheers, Van
Thanks Van, she's part of the family she used to belong to my father in law and she's older than my dad! Will post updates as we work on her and sail her. The sunset was a treat we felt we'd earned. Cheers, Lesley
Yeah they don't do so well being tossed about on the water so we bring them ashore to take care they are insured on water during season and on land out of season). It's also so you can work on them and make them ready for next season, scrape the barnacles off and paint them etc. The mast goes in the boatyard shed. Cheers, Lesley
Oh Lesley!! I know your description says it was a lovely clear day but that wind sound chilled me to the bone lol. I'm glad Leola is ok after the flood as well. Now she can sleep sound until next summer. The sunset was breathtaking.
It blew the cobwebs away for sure and was cold but not too bad. Most of the footage wasn't useful because all you can hear is the wind in the mic so I trimmed it to the basics. It was a sight to see me and Joe getting that enormous mast off though. The sunset was the reward for our hard work! Cheers, Lesley x
Nice vid Lesley. Great to see the kids help on the boat. The boat is a part of your family right?
cheers
