  • How does it pull it up when a lot of ballast is between the ties?

  • the guys that work for the railroad these men are working for have a ton of safety rules which obviously thes men dont have to use so must be thats why they have to contract this work out

  • At 2.41 definatley unsafe working the driver could not see the guy in all the dust also health and safety breaches the guy should have had dust protection otherwise wow that is one big monster

  • i love the grinder seen it few times but is so cool!

  • Amazing.

  • this ran by a crossing gate backwards in inaz ky yesterday 0.o

  • @Heroduothecomedian is it inaz or inez. My grandparents live in Louisa, near Asland, and some relatives like in Lexington.

  • @RCKTBOY7 i missed,it was inez.it passed the crossing gate near the training center yesterday

  • @Heroduothecomedian That's cool. My territory (when I'm at my grandparents) is Louisa up thru Ashland and sometimes Huntington and Kenova

  • Ballast is the rocks that forms the bed in which the rail and ties sits on. Due to rain, dirt and wear from travel on the rail, the ballast basically turns to concrete and the water then doesn't drain properly causing it to make the bed unstable. This particular machine cleans only the ballast on the outside of the ties. There are otber machines that clean the ballast between the rails.

  • @leeps1283 Merci. Je n'avais pas compris pourquoi il fallait nettoyer le balast ...

  • okay - dumb question: whats the "ballast" and does that machine go in between the tracks or the outsides of them? Cool vid though.

  • It looks like them John Deere's that are designed for railroad tracks :P

  • This thing also doubles as a Ballast tamper.

  • I'm wondering what the removed material is like. It looks pretty black. Is it oily? or, is it more like compost? What, if anything, is it good for?

  • @jacero10 it removes dirt/mud and lil rocks. it helps the water drain away from the tracks.

  • Comment removed

  • А чего они все без респираторов?

  • i dont mean to bust your bubble, but i have worked for loram on a ballast cleaner and it doesnt wash it. the only thing the water does it to keep the dust down.

  • @sladek2003 hi i was just worndering if u would tell me why u dont work for Loram any more i just filled out a app. for them and r they good to work for

  • @deerman600 i quit working for loram due to the fact while i was up in canada, i saw a man get killed by a train. yea they pay great and you will get parts of the usa, mex, and canada. i worked for them for over 2 years. been anywhere from the west coast to the east coast and up in canada. working for a month and getting two weeks off isnt a bad trade off.

  • Thanks for posting. Real nice views of this thing in operation.

Will definitely forward link to railfan buds !

  • I would love to get a great shot of that one here in Florida!

  • That thing is amazing, get it done!
