I put together a video from the Minneapolis tornado as well please click the MOETMUZIK user name below to view it!!! It is called "Dat Bizniss & P.R.E. - Fly Away"
This was the very day the Joplin, MO tornado hit...I remember this led off the newscasts before the networks started getting reports of how bad the J storm genuinely was. This one looks pretty bad as well...sorry there were fatalities in MPLS. I live in Bella Vista, AR on the Missouri state line 2 counties south of the Joplin killer whirl...in the 10 years I've been here we had one of the three most vicious storms I remember a couple of hours later from the same system, but no "tors".
great vid man, i was at Home in North minneapolis about 6 blocks from where one area got hit, and about another 6 or 7 from another. it jumped alot. my roof has a little wind damage but thats about it
Great VIDEO! Thanks for putting on youtube. I couldn't find a good shot of this anywhere, even on tv news. Not sure why it was not shown well. Scary stuff.
There is a large apartment building on University between 18th and 19th. I think that's where this was shot from. The large white building is Packaging Corp of America which is at 18th and Marshall so it's a couple blocks east of there. That apartment building is really the only thing in that area tall enough to have taken this video from.
AWESOME video! Thanks for posting it. I live in Cedar Trails in SLP, which was the first place to get hit. (I'm okay, though, and my place was undamaged.)
Since Marshall St. runs from downtown Mpls to Fridley (about six miles), a E/W reference point might also be helpful. Judging from the presence of the highrise in the last frames of the video, it appears that the camera was somewhere to the S of Lowry (on Marshall). Given the fact that the views to the SW/W are above treeline, my best guess is that this is shot from California Bldg. at approx 23rd Ave NE & Marshall.
@lilmandavid Minneapolis....Its really uncommon to see tornadoes of that size hit the twin cities. Usually, we only see really small tornadoes, that knock down or rip branches off trees, and maybe break a few windows. The bigger tornadoes commony stay to the north or south of the cities. However, whith everything going crazy with our weather, i guess Im not supprised.
@lilmandavid The camera view looks to be from east of the Mississippi and by the range to the tornado itself and the known path I think this is somewhere around northeast Minneapolis.
@ZombiePirateEddie Yes, it was shot from northeast Minneapolis. The location is just a few blocks off of Marshall St. with a view almost directly to the west.
