I'm so glad to have found this video as this has been driving me nuts for years, I live in the UK and both the 25th and 30th Anniversary DVD's have the shit Stereo mix with no option for Mono. I'm glad that it's not something that I'm doing wrong but damn you Universal! I'm keeping my VHS as that sounds way better. They had better fix it for the Blu-Ray release over here though!
I've only ever seen Jaws with its original mono sound once (almost 9 years ago), and even then I still adore that version compared to what we have today.
The "new" sound of the boat tipping over sounds a little like a toilet flushing. I definitely like the mono version better, as I said in my first comment. The mono version has the right sounds that fit the scenes. The stereo version has updated sounds that, in most cases, don't sound like they should for the scenes.
Somebody tell Universal to release a mono version of Jaws instead of the stereo version. I don't know about any of you, but I like the mono version much better than the stereo version.
@Dac719 The mono is available on the Jaws 30th Anniversary DVD. However, you'll need to go to the menu and switch to Dolby 2.0 Mono since the stereo version is the default.
