@KAWC10 What's your opinion for the Southeast TN/North GA area? I know that area had an unusually rough winter last year. (Coldest December on record, and 3 times their seasonal snowfall average)
You wish for snow now but when it comes it sure will come EVERYWHERE! Mountains of snow being hauled out and thousands of dollars being used to shovel it tow it and transport it. Accidents, falls, biting temperatures. Better have some heat its going to be a cold one. Like i said you want it now because its hot but then it will get to cold there is never a true balance except maybe october and early november.
@itsmemeDDP its a cold pdo and cold nao along with a negative ao. if anything he should ad some cold in, especially considering the low solar activity and the volcanic uptics.
I probably won't be making another Winter forecast until maybe September or October, and then I'll release the final forecast in November sometime. I just released this one Monday.
record heat in russia and siberia yields lack of cold for canada and US in the following winter..plus with a mod/wk la nina..this favors a SE ridge to occur and hindering blocking -NAO
@coalcracker92 so is that why 2009-2010 was so warm? oh wait it wasnt lol but thats not necessarily true. look at the AO. also the southern hemisphere, record negative AO readings. this will be reflected in the northern hemisphere this winter. we have had record heat there in the past fallowed by some brutal winters, 2009-2010 was one of them, also last winter. the years we have a southeast ridge during winter are going to be rare over the next 30 years or so.
Jdawggg, I believe that there may be the possibility that you guys may get a repeat or near repeat of last winter. Remember, this is just a forecast, and it's still half a year away, so it could still absolutely change. I know for Kansas, I'm thinking temperatures should slowly back down towards average starting in late August-Mid September for Kansas, so it will likely be a similar case for you. All I can say snowfall wise, again, possibly similar to last year. Cold temps and snow by Mid Novem.
So Tulsa oklahoma is going to be really cold and snowy??? How much snow do you think we will get? When do you think it will get cooler? Its 11:35 and still 93 degrees!!!!
I have to disagree with you, @Fox250R. I just went back and looked at data from NOAA for November-April last Winter.. And? Generally, for Oregon and Washington, temperatures were below average, and precipitation was slightly above average. It was above temps and below precip in areas of the Northwest, but really, we did pretty good.
I saw that on the Weather Channel, also. I believe personally that we will begin seing cooler temperatures at the end of September. I believe we will have a HOT August, HOT September with an average end, a cooler October, and a pretty cold November, December and beyond. Still pretty far out, so truly the only thing to do is wait and see.
@KAWC10 I got a question. I live in Indiana and was wondering if it was possible to see a winter storm similar to the one in 1979 again this winter or if not what do you expect exactly?
Hey could you answer somethhing for me? The weather chanel says the current heat wave will take well in to fall to break. I live in minneapolis and it has been unsusaly hot here for a couple weeks and is supposed to stay like that for another couple. Do you still believe it will be a cold winter here?
That could be true, WeatherForecaster102. The areas on my maps could differ 100-200 miles, since we're still this far out, it's hard to say exactly what I believe might occur. But yes, I do agree that those areas will be getting maybe a little more snow than last year, or very close to the same amount
I agree with everything you say on this one, there is just one thing I think the Carolinas, and Tenessee will be more snowy than it was last year, write me back, and tell me what you think?
No snow. Hotest winter ever.
