Interesting. I've taken it to a whole new level. Yet I'm still working on my smoothness in rolls & rudiments. You might like my version of BLACK MAGIC WOMAN. What makes a great drum solo?
when I posted it, it said it would require approval before posting. just in case, you can go to my channel and it's on there. please let me know what you think, and keep spreading the knowledge!
it's refreshing to see somebody trying to break down the drumming of someone as unique and underrated as Billy Martin. great job! Billy is my dear friend and mentor, and this particular groove changed my life, so I posted a video response of me playing it (but not explaining the concept since you already did such a great job doing so). i hope you enjoy!
martin is really amazing. He uses a simple kit, simple patterns, but is really tight, and knows how to take those simplicities and make them sound very intricate.
Next time you get bored playing a blues shuffle, drop a ninango in the mix. If they don't fire you, it will turn heads around. Hey who cares, its a blues band.
yeah, he was building this jam space thats like 12x16 outside. shed style. its for the future workshops he does with cyro baptista. hes a really down to earth guy, and his new book called, riddim, is sick. lots of central africa, caribean, s. america, etc..
lesson were 120 an hr. Its definitely worth checking out. he does workshops in the spring with cyro baptista that are around 350 for like 2-3 days. Where are you from
Latin 6/8 and Rogers kit...what's there not to like about this video? Oh yeah, and he's done a nice explanation of Billy Martin too. Thanks Phil!!
