  • Benny: We have a...mess

  • i miss this broadcast team. brings back childhood memories.

  • So did he win?

  • what's with sterling causing all the wrecks? He made this one happen and he made earnhardt sr. smash into the wall that killed him. he needs to friggin chill lol

  • @theflash1292

Marlin didn't even touch Dale's car.

  • @Sparkz49

Look up Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s Fatal Crash (Live with replays) then go to 3:27 on this video and look in the info below the video

  • @theflash1292 Marlin didn't cause Earnhardt's crash.... Earnhardt really caused his own fatal crash. He put himself in a really bad spot. Sterling was as low as he could go... he could have gone to the apron but that would have just shot him up into Earnhardt anyway. God people are dumb with these comments.

  • @erasetoimprove Pretty sure Marlin moved up just enough to cause the accident. I'm not saying he's a dick or anything, just seems unlucky. You don't have to be a cocky prick about it.

  • uh oh, we got a problem!

  • My right ear is lonely

  • Where did Ruttman's car go @ 4:58??

  • 3 People were having a nice Picnic Lunch in the grass when all a Sudden !!!!......... ham sammiches and Dr.Peppers were completely destroyed !!

  • Joe Reutman used to race in the truck series...i think

  • @bmttiger09 Yep. He did. For the late Bobby Hamilton's team. Won quite a few races.

  • "come on dw"..... you can tell benny is thinking omg man friend is dead. yet hes trying not to show his emotions and continue his professionalism

this era of nascar was so dangerous and men like dw lived it. unbelievable!!!!

  • Boogity,boogity,boogity,,,,Lets go flipping boys !!

  • As kornnut43 commented - all these years what I've remembered about this crash was Benny's "c'mon DW..." Believe it or not, I've never seen the clip again until today, and the reason I went looking for it was my memory of Benny's voice saying those words.

  • I still like Nascar, still watch every Sunday. I really miss Dale (go Harvick). I was 6 years old in 91 but still remember watching some of the races and to me the early 90s was the golden age of Nascar.

  • @msullivan85 I would say the golden years were when people had street cars.

  • Comment removed

  • Benny's "c'mon DW..." is pretty gut-wrenching, no matter how many times I watch this clip.

  • @kornnut43

    So true.

  • @erasetoimprove Kinda stings when someone shows how much of a liar you are, Junior. Your pacifier has been found so you can get off of YouTube now.

  • Quote "I was there and watching 20 years ago." When was that...while your mom was changing your diapers? You are a 27 year old wet behind the ears boy right now. 27-20=7 years old. Yeah, you were there watching alright......watching Donkey Kong and Pac Man while mommy powdered your behind. Get real and don't try and talk so big. It makes you appear silly....now case closed.

  • I've seen Waltrip's car at the Darlington Museum before. Literally all that is left is just the hulk of the car.

  • dude if i was a commentator id be like "HOLY SHIT DAMN!! OH FUCK DID YOU SEE THAT SHIT?!?!? DAMN THAT MOTHERUFKCER JUST FLIPPED!! HOLY SHIT!!" lol

  • hmm marllin involved in another wreck? hmm, i see a theme occuring.

  • Only Dale Sr. could pull out seconds before a wreck and miss it... XD

  • i miss benny

  • lol the cars don't race anymore. They just sit with air conditioned helmets and use one hand.

  • the safety crews have improved a lot since then..

  • @khevvin48 not necessarily the safety crews. What's improved is no racing back to the caution, which allows the crews to get out there faster.

  • well the main problem would be that the guy sliding through the grass didnt get off the gas plus the bumb sen them in the air

  • @zeidy388

he was on the brakes! but that doesnt do crap when your in the grass

  • @nr2002vidz yea u know wat i mean. but that wouldnt have happened at talledega cuz i dont think theres any grass on the backstretch right?

  • @zeidy388

it was all grasss at dega back then too, but y duz it matter? this crasg was at tona, what does dega have anything to do with this

  • did he break any bones or anything?

  • Back in the early 90's it was not uncommon for 4 or 5 cars to break out from the pack at "plate" tracks.

  • Uh oh, we got a problem! i he was still in the broadcasting bouth

  • Man oh man!!! RIP BP!!!

  • THIS IS THE FIRECRACKER 400 to me anyways

  • I love Davey Allison! Too bad he died too soon!

  • Benny Parsons, Ned Jarrett and Bob Jenkins was something special. That trio will *never* be topped in terms of NASCAR announcing. Benny was such a kind person. His comments during the race when JD McDuffie died were incredible. When these three did a race together you not only learned a lot - you knew the people talking to you knew and cared about those guys out there on the track. The *only* thing that comes close now is Wally Dallenbach & Kyle Petty on TNT during Summers.

  • @Scrivener86 You got that right Scrivener86. I grew up with JD McDuffie, in Sanford, NC, and these guys were absolutely the best. I can't imagine how DW and Larry McStupid would handle a situation like that now. They would probably ask Digger what he thought

  • both waltrip brothers have flipped in that grass

  • Bob Jenkins: Uh oh, we've got a problem!!!!!

Ned Jarrett: Well sure, there is Darrell Waltrip flipping over and over... - calm as can be

  • every driver has one really bad wreck where they are not the same from afterwards. This is one of them. I can remember DW was not the same after this.

  • this was the end of it for DW.

  • if you want to see the car (whats left of it), its in the darlington raceway museum.

  • these commentators sound so dead, if i was in another room when this was on i wouldnt even know this happened because their voices didnt change. but if fox was doing this they would be going fucking crazy

  • @dal3fan88 I agree we need more enthusiasm, this was scary.

  • Just some advice, don't disrespect Benny, Bob, and Ned on here. Some people on here would kill you for that becuase THEYRE THE BEST BROADCAST TEAM EVER!!!!!

You know how crazy youtube people are.

  • parsons was great, bot bob and ned were a little boring

  • That was (still is) Bob's job. He was a broadcaster, not a "color commentator," so he had to maintain a level of professionalism, which is why your Mike Joys and Marty Reids of today don't scream like Ralph Shaheen. Ned was really only there to back up what Benny or Bob had just said, or to make a relevant comment. Bob Jenkins was there just to explain in detail what the person is seeing, or to bring the show in and out of breaks. He wasn't there to scream

  • retarded they suck!!!!!!! come find me.

  • @rustyshackleford01 And Ken Squier

  • @rustyshackleford01 they were and right now the only reason y i watch nascar, now, is because of dw and them

  • @jeffg24LT21 everyone in the booth on all the NASCAR networks suck. DW's no better, he sounds like a senile drunk redneck almost every race. That being said I remember when DW would come in and do some color commentary on TNN and old ESPN, and when he wasn't surrounded by a bunch of fake idiots he actually did a pretty decent job in the booth. Until we get better announcers in the booth, it will be hard to get ratings to go back up. The racing has been great, but the representation is terrible.

  • @erasetoimprove You call this crap in Nascar we have now.... great racing???? During a "great" race, there is not even a need for an announcer. You can't blame the state Nascar is in now on the announcers. The crappy cars, lack of talented drivers and toyota being in it is the problem. Plus what happened 10 years ago with the loss of Big E. If you think this nowadays crap is great racing, then you would have creamed your jeans 20 years ago. Nascar has lost it's base forever.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE I was there and watching 20 years ago so no need for the big talk about how great it was. It was great I won't deny that, but A) the COT has been improved greatly with many more good changes coming, 2) There's not less talented drivers than there were back then, 3) Toyota isn't a problem for me considering they employ more Americans than any of the "American" manufacturers. I still enjoy the racing and so do many others. I'll defend the sport today just like I did back then.

  • Comment removed

  • @erasetoimprove "@LT1HILLINGHOE Well thank god the sport has smartly gotten rid of "fans" like you. We're better off without you. "

What an original YouTube reply. How long did you stay down at the library to research and come up with that one, extra chromosome boy? See ya' in the funny papers, Jughead.

  • @rustyshackleford01: Great advice, I agree!!!

  • @rustyshackleford01 then add Darrel to that team

  • yea DW McReynolds would be screaming

  • well hell ya because larry mac screams like a girl, but thats what makes him so awesome :) haha.

  • Jaws did a roll over

  • DW's car is at the museum at Darlington. The sheer destruction of the car is absolutely remarkable.

  • It did get airbourne u fuckin idiot & i'm callin u a fuckin idiot because of yur screen neame GORDON RULES!!!

  • if that would have ben the COT it would have got airborne

  • dat wreck was jus horrible glad DW is ok

  • I guess Waltrip didn't win this one.

  • :o :o :o

  • This is 20 yrs ago smart one......when he could drive

  • Bill Elliot.

  • if you ask me, hes lucky that thing didnt go flipping like crazy like Davey's did at pocono

  • Yup. He still works as an announcer to this day.

  • r u retarted he anounces nascar on fox

  • Seriously antz, I have been around racing my whole life, and can tell you every guy driving every car in this video. Just becaue zaru did not know who Waltrip is does not make him "retarded". That is a ridiculous thing to say about someone.

  • well stupid ppl shouldnt ask stupid things if he doesnt kno look it up and if ur that lazy not to then i dont feel sorry to call him wat he deserves

  • @antz350 Well in this case, since he was asking a question, it is the same as "looking it up". You shouldn't be "lazy" and just answer his question. Instead you were "lazy" and decided to be an ass hole instead of helping a guy out. Also, you shouldn't be "lazy" and type complete words. Typing "ppl" and "kno" is just another form of laziness.

  • Yep. zmonbobbo told me that already. thanks retard.

  • the car that was pushin him tore the body apart

  • Geezz....almost all of the driver that he mentions other than DW are all dead..

  • kulwicki, allison, who else?

  • looks like steve park's crash at pocono in 2002 with dale jr

  • That's why that is all concrete now..... he would not had flipped if the concrete had been there

  • Nope. At Talladega, that portion of the track is now paved, but at Daytona, its still grass there. The reason its like that, is because part of the road course (the bus stop chicane in the road course setup) is in that area. Im sure if they did pave over all of that, you could paint lines to make note of where the chicane is at, but for now, its that reason why its still grass.

  • at talledega just move the flag position to were it is at daytona and the tracks will look just alike

  • talladega is a bit bigger, the straigtaways are identical, but the turns are a bit wider and mroe sweeping at dega.

  • yeah, but ive never seen a flip in that area since Waltrips 2004 500 flip. anyway the grass there hasnt really been an issue lately

  • I think the only person to ever flip at night was billy ventruni during the arca race in 2005

  • Billy Venturini didn't flip in that race, he just got t-boned. Todd Kluever did flip violently though.

  • and dan shaver aswell flipped

  • you're a moron Garagerock24

  • Comment removed

  • hey, Sterling had no place to go in Earnhardts wreck. Don't blame that on Sterling.

  • im not blaming him, i said INVOLVED! Big difference.

  • You also said, "...in killing another legand," though.

  • use 2 love erni

  • is this the last time someone has flipped in the pepsi or coke zero 400?

  • at first i would have said no way but now that i think about it i think your right, since this crash nobody has gotten upside down in a Pepsi 400

  • yah its been a while seince anyone has gotton upside down in the pepsi 400

  • "We have a mess" I miss Benny Parsons. And Bob Jenkins too.

  • i agree i miss them

  • @ChambanaWags86 yeah these guys actually KNEW how to call a race. made it seem more like you were actually there rather than watching tv

    rip benny

  • @ChambanaWags86 thankfully we can still watch Indycar and experience Bob Jenkins and his great naturally talent for commentating races, since he's in the booth for all except 2 or 3 of the Indycar Races. You should check it out, Indycar's not as bad as a lot of fellow NASCAR fans say. I wish NASCAR fans today were like NASCAR fans of old - as in watched more racing than just NASCAR.

  • I think it's more about sounding more professional and tasteful.

  • I think some crashes are just so unbelievable you kinda have a semi-shock felling

  • its amazing how much safer nascar has gotten over the year...... thank god!

  • that's WICKED

  • You gotta have plenty of respect for the waltrip family. Even though michael cant win worth anything today, both DW and michael have taken HUGE hits crashes flips, ect, just amazing

  • I was at this race and it lookd even scarier in person.

  • my dad knew sterling and cookoo marlin. he thought the world of cookoo. he wouldn't have peed on sterling marlin even if he was on fire.

  • Shut the hell up. You cant blame something like that on someone when it was clearly and accident. Sterling is a well respected driver and person and was friends with Earnhardt. People like you need to get out of Nascar and whatch an asshole sport like football

  • lol!

  • Marlin didnt kill earnhadt he was blocking and hit marlin he had nothing to do with it dipshit

  • Earnhardt and Marlin never touched, Marlin took the air out from under Dales car which got him loose.

  • i think the lord was with him. im happy that crash was not FATAL...

  • the lord was with dw. glad he wasnt seriously injured

  • its part of the sport its the risk taht u take

  • thats when it was real racing now theres all these fucking rules

  • "All the greats have flipped at Daytona."

    Darrell Waltrip.

  • Anybody who's been watching Nascar in the last 2 decades knows Sterling Marlin has caused several major crashes at Daytona.

  • Bob, Ned, and Benny were the three greatest people to call a NASCAR race. I miss them.

  • totally agree with that

  • Remember the days when...while someone was viciously barrel rolling end over end the announcer would state how many victories the guy had and where he was from and the short tracks he used to race at...all this as the camera pans into the smoking wreckage.

  • whenb todays cars flip, anyone ever notice how the announcers act like nothing is wrong?, yet today they get quiet and surpized when ever they see that, after dale sr's death, the broadcasting standards changed

  • Yup, totally agree with ya. When there was a crash like this, they were praying they were okay. Now when people flip, morons like rusty wallace go like, "that was pretty cool!"

  • They say it AFTER they know the driver is okay.

Just like fans probably did after this crash.

  • That same Darrell Waltrip car was at the Joe Weatherly Museum At Darlington Raceway, the last time i went there grass stains, dirt, and all.

  • Boogity, Boogity, Boogity!!!!! Lets Go Flipping Boys!!!!!

  • HAHAHA U FUNNY

  • who was running directly behind kulwicki?

  • Sterling Marlin

  • dude u know nothing sr. crash had nothing to do with sterling sr was trying to protect 1st,2nd it was a racing accident ,idiot R.I.P dale earnhardt

  • i enjoyed that video a lot more than DW an an broadcaster.... BP was the man

  • "Man oh man".

    I miss BP man.

  • now a days this is rare to see in a modern race because they have to many safty rule i like the old races better, back then you had bp and earnhardt thats nascar.

  • nowadays they will only show replays after they know the driver is ok, just imagen how that would be if he was hurt, and watching it over and over again

  • that's why it scares the shit out of me everytime FOX takes forever to show a replay and theres no update on the driver.

  • E-mail FOX and NASCAR about this.

  • I miss BP,

  • im sorry, I know this was a serious crash. but did anyone else notice hoe rutmann just... dissapeared? lol

  • lol

  • he was in the Truck series for a while, i think he was champion once

  • When Nascar Broadcasting was good.

No stupid gimmicks like the pointer, and the broadcasters NOT talking to you like you are a moron like they do now.

  • so true.

  • listen to MRN

  • holy shiat

  • The whole right side and front bumper of DWs car was still on.. strange for such a bad wreck.

  • "man oh Man" When doesn't Benny Parsons say that?

  • Youve got 3 honors!

  • Every time I watch this, I'm amazed that Ruttman didn't get upside down as well. As bad as this crash was, if Ruttman would have started tumbing as well...bad news.

  • i was thinking the same thing

  • holy shit
