Just wondering if this test was done n a clean install. I am going to buy the Wintec Filemate 48 GB pretty quickly. They have them down to about $150, the major advantage on that is that you don't have to remove your optical drive to put in a data-doubler to get the great speed of an SSD.
Also, have you seen any difference in your battery life? I have heard arguing reports that SSDs will affect or not affect battery life (where-as a 7200 rpm HD will drain a battery faster than a 5400 rpm)
@SteveDurnin i put a fresh install on the SSD and left the old/existing copy on my HDD. But if you want you can put a fresh install on your HDD of-course.
So since your March video, does this device still work good as a boot up drive? Any problems thusfar? I hear about a lot of drive failures after a couple months and would love to hear your input on your EC SSD.
@vivelecorn hi....the drive crashed one time...damaged sectors, but with a low-format tool i could recover it again. Since I only had OSX and applications on the SSD there was no big harm....my files were still safee on the HDD and it automatically switched to the OSX install on HDD.. (i left a a copy there). Other then that it still works like a charm! I love the speedboost it gave to my 2007 MBP
@mrtnmnstr Thanks for the reply! Still tempted on getting one of these for my 2007 MBP but I'll just wait it out to see if anyone else can report in on their ExpressCard SSD after months of use. Cheers!
I just got one and plan to use it as a boot drive also. I guess the MacBook Pro is the only machine that can boot from this drive according to the Wintec web site.
@Parsa9 yea the windows-machine seem to have troubles with (although i didnt try it). I use the the SSD only for OSX and Applications, all the other stuff (docs, music, vids, pictures) i keep on my internal HDD.

So is it fair to compare them?

@SteveDurnin ok i see what you're getting at. Let me nuance it a bit....the old copy was about 1-2 months on there, so still fairly new.

OK. Sounds pretty fair. Thanks.
I might get the 96GB SSD card. Can I install straight onto the SSD from the install DVD?

@SteveDurnin yep, no problem.......good luck!
