This was the best Star Trek film. I love it for it's gore porn and splatter film motif. To be honest, this film inspired me to watch more horror movies when I was in kindergarten. But yes, the story was great and I didn't fall asleep on it like I occasionally do when I watch the first film.
Logic and plot is flawed, but what I liked about this film was the talk of the mysterious events in Space seed - an episode I would not see until 15 years later.
It simply did not have the vision of ST:TMP(a vastly underrated movie), but WOK was a very emotionally driven film. Excellent!
Obvious, noisy, retreads themes from ST:TMP but now written like 80's tv. Fun action movie but has little to do with ST. And they resorted to the lamest plot device ever: killing a beloved character. 2.5 out of 5 stars for me.
When I was looking for my birthday present at the age of 9 with my grandma, this Is what I picked out. I think I've seen some Next Generation episodes before this, but It's pretty vague In my memory. I own all except "Insurrection". And Now for my life story. Once upon a time.............
I honestly don't understand why everyone likes Star Trek II. It's as un-startrek as they come. Why is Khan always picking people off the floor or throwing them. Isn't he supposed to be a supergenius? Not to mention all of the plot holes.
Excellent review John ... enjoying your ST series very much. I'm looking forward to viewing them all - especially your Fave NG eppies. Well done on the time and effort you've put in.
A superb movie and worth noting it's original title altered a few times before becoming 'The Wrath of Khan' - Meyer wanted: Star Trek II - The Undiscovered Country' then Star Trek II - The Genesis Project, then Star Trek II - The Vengeance of Khan (that was changed because at the time it was deemed to close in sounding like the third Star Wars film which was originally called 'Revenge of the Jedi' - hollywood huh!
I still have yet to see Space Seed, but I'm gettin' to it. Maybe then this movie will make even more sense! I wasn't even aware of its slashed budget simply because it held my attention throughout the film. Kirk's famous "Khan!" scream is also good stuff. Another great review that well-deserves your 9/10.
I have to agree that this is the best of the series but is one of my favorite sci-fi films of all time. It's so intense, emotional, suspenseful and totally satisfying in every way as a fan of Star Trek, action, science fiction, or whatever. I loved the plot with Genesis. I actually cried at the death and funeral of Spock. Shatner and Montalban's performances were spectacular.
@NecroVMX I'm generally agreeing with the people who say it's the best. it kind of ties with the even numbered ones though because those are my favorites depending on my mood, that's even the case with one and three. Ah well, more to come, looking forward to the next review.
I've seen a really rough cut of a scene of Spock telling Kirk that Saavik is part Romulan and it is mentioned in the novel. God help me if I start pulling from the books to explain film oversights like a Star Wars fan. The novel has a bunch of additional things in it like Peter Prestons crush on Saavik and Regula 1's poetry night! woo hoo.
This is a great one, I still perfer The Undiscovered Country though. Thank you for the video. Can't wait to see more.
My favorite Star Trek movie out of all of them. I told my uncle, who's a trekkie, about the movie and he says he doesn't like it, he prefers The Undiscovered Country. Oh well.
I think a reference to Peter (the cadet who died) being Scotty's nephew as in the Director's Cut of this film.

That JFK idea sounds pretty cool. Anyone know if it got recycled in a later series?

I love the new remake movie, but this one will always be my number one and Undiscovered Country is my second.
