It would be nice if all of the music being produced by shows such as American Idol, etc would be thrown out to the wolves and replaced with some real music such as musicians like Charlie Sexton, now that it is some real stuff!
I met Charlie years ago when he was touring with the Arc Angels -he was a total sweetheart! I asked him how he got into "Thelma and Louise" and he told me the story of how Ridley Scott got in touch with him. Face to face, he's even better looking and has the most beautiful smile.
This is Fucken Rock and Rapen' roll. All that shit, made up by shit heads like Simon Cowell from Amerian Idol, and the rest of those fake fukers is bull shit. This is music. What they market today is Disney Land Fuck wad, Santorum Bull Shit made up. Long live Rock and Roll..........At The Top.....
awesome tune by an awesome artist, like so many, april wine for example, don't get half of the credit and fame they deserve.I own all of his stuff, like this one,you all should hear the rest of them........They don't call him king elvis for nothing!!!!!!!
Ah yes, memories of a time when actual MUSICIANS were around with some musical skill and accomplishment. Long before the days of auto-tuned, talentless drivel by headset wearing entertainers flanked by 30 backup dancers known as today's schlock where everything sounds synthetic and poured from the same shitty blender. Shame on you music industry for being focused on the quick buck.
@davettalashley "I don't see anything here but chicken SShhhhiiiiiiiiiiittt.. Ooohhhh" :) I liked that part too from Some Kind Of Wonderful. Elias Kteas or however you spell his name, awesome actor.
What a beauty he was. I wish his music was as cool as he looked, instead of buried under all that schlocky production. Why oh why do record companies do this to their artists ?

Those soft toms or bongo beats just after the intro hook me every time. This song is quite an accomplishment for a 16yo. He really has a lot of presence even as a young man.

Freakishly sounds like " Eddie and the Cruisers" John Cafferty, easily could pass as him, nevertheless, great 80's song...brings back a ton of memories....Cheers
Coming from the 80's as a kid.. my older brother and cousins all agree.. this was the greatest song EVER.. I do agree after hearing it after so long.. The meaning is such a part of every single human being out there.. Being at the TOP is what we all crave for... thank you Charlie Sexton!
I'm ashamed to admit, I'd forgotten what his name was and just thought of him cos a friend posted a photo of herself in which she looked like him! I did really like him a lot at the time and was amazed someone so young could come out with stuff like that - he was only a little older than I was.
I have to laugh at morons who dump on Charlie. He studied guitar as a kid, 12 years old with W. C. Clark, a very versatile and talented musician. like many, he explored his range and style and if Bob Dylan likes Charlie, who can argue with that?
Charlie is good peeps. saw him at SXSW here in Austin for the 1st time in awhile a few years back. He always takes time for a little chit chat. I still have 2 45s of beat so lonely and impressed from the 80s. The ones with cool b&w photos of him on the covers. In pristine condition. Im pretty proud of them.
@ericsully22 I'm just bullshittin man. Charlie Sexton is huge on the Austin TX music scene with his band "Arc Angels" he also plays alot with Doyle Bramhall II. Charlie is also a great blues guitarist as well.
I can't believe this is Charlie Sexton. Today, he is in the Arc Angels, an Austin Texas band where Charlie is from. Actually Charlie is a Stevie Ray Vaughan type musician. Way different than this 1985 video.
I reckon by age 17 you could have had many a cold reception out of life.

@navy4181 Adam Ant wannabe! Are you high? Adam Ant couldn't kiss Charlie's ass with three sets of lips and a roadmap. Charlie Sexton was a prodigy and STILL kicks ass. You wanna see some good work of his - watch some Arc Angels videos. It was his band in the '90's with Doyle Bramhall III and Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon (otherwise known as 'Double Trouble' of Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble). Awesome friggin' band that should have made more than one album. But what a damn album it was.

@joediver1119 as a big Adam Ant fan myself, I noticed that they had a similar facial structure right away back in the day, but having a similar face-shape doesn't make someone a "wannabe".
@joediver1 Adam Ant can't hold a candle to Charlie he is pure talent of the highest caliber. I can still remeber the first time i heard him i was hooked. Adam who is all can say
@joediver1119 I can't insult Adam and the Ants. They had a ton of great music. However I don't think it's logical to say that Sexton was an Adam Ant wanna be. Whoever said that has no sense of comparison. The two are so different in look and musical style it's .. well its just obvious. Not sure who would say Charlie Sexton is an Adam Ant wanna be. @bigdsears-It was "Duncan" and I think the exact line was "This must be a hen house because all I smell is chicken shiiiiiiiitttttttt......" Great movie:)
It's so sad, I've seen Some Kind of Wonderful so many time I can still remember which scene in the movie this song was playing. That was and is still one of the best movies ever. I wanted to be Watts character when I was growing up!!
Charlie was playing in clubs with SRV and other Austin bluesmen when he was 12. he put out a few records and is now into production. He has a great voice and loads of talent.... was trained by the best. He stayed with my room mate and I when he was a teen because he would not stay in school and mom thought we could do ... something. I am pleased to see the man he has grown in to now. This is an oldie here.
I remember getting this tape shortly after it came out. Being a teen during the 80's totally ROCKED! What a freeking awesome guitarist/singer! He was so young when he did this, so hot, & sooo good! Pure talent!
After all these years, it's still remarkable that Charlie Sexton was only 16 when this album came out. Why don't 16-year-olds make music like this anymore?
Heard this song in the film Some Kind of Wonderful and fell in love with it. My boyfriends goes mad cos its always on and i even bought the album despite not knowing who Charlie was as I was only about 4 when this came out. Love this version, pure unadulterated 80's!!! Wish my life was a john hughes movie haha
Such a great song! Such an awesome artist! I do think it's dated due to those horrific '80's synthesizers! Charlie should totally re-cut this song, lose the synths & this could be a big hit again today!!!
Damn this takes me back...... Loving the OTT 80's production, OTT 80's hair..... Man I wanted so bad to be in LA!!! Great tune, great playing, great perfromer.
I just realized that when I was 17 and listening to him, that he was the same age and making the music.

After all these years, it's still remarkable that Charlie Sexton was only 16 when this album came out. Why don't 16-year-olds make music like this anymore?

Happy Charlie's still playing guitar. Glad to see that even though he hasn't been headlining much, he's still a success.

This stuff was so much more inventive than the throwback blues shite he did/does with Arc Angels.

With those cheekbones, big hair and earrings, Charlie looks like Hanson in 21 Jump St '87 (ie Johnny Depp)

Haven't seen a Sexton video in over 20 years. Don't remember him being this skinny.

Such a great song! Such an awesome artist! I do think it's dated due to those horrific '80's synthesizers! Charlie should totally re-cut this song, lose the synths & this could be a big hit again today!!!
