This looked like a fairly old truck anyway. A lot of U-Haul locations dump their old trucks really cheap (especially ones with gas engines; the big diesels tend to last longer). If they pooled their money and bought it, they could probably get a good part of it back by parting the truck out or scrapping it.

You do realize you can buy shitty old Uhauls for cheap. (Which is probably what the guys in the vid did.) I'm guessing you got an older truck (most likeley had around 200k miles on it.) and once those trucks get older uhaul probably over looks needed tune ups (Diff fluid change, engine oil / fuel injector cleaners, etc.) and that was the most likely cause of your raodside demise.
