I've used Borland (or is it Insprise, or CodeGear, or Embarcardero) C++ Builder since version 4, and Visual C++ since version 6. Personally I much prefer the former - even though it has suffered an identity crisis. In my humble opinion, and through my experience as a sole "developer for hire", nothing comes close C++ Builder.
And some of the components are seriously wonky, so I hear (e.g. Indy - not had the misfortune to have to use it). But despite its quirks, I often wonder what the alternative might be and feel that we might have the best of the current bunch. I've not really used VC++ but feel it might be a case of out of the frying pan, into the fire... comments welcome
I've used BCB 5 and now CodeGear/Embarcadero RAD Studio (Embarcadero used to be CodeGear used to be Borland as far as C++ Builder is concerned - always a bit worrying when companies rebrand/change hands - a bit of stability might not hurt?) for almost 7 years now and it's pretty intuitive and fast to build apps. BUT - has some odd quirks. Eg they seem to have made the help system unusable in the last release, CodeGuard seems to introduce more bugs than it catches and the proj config is a mess.
Get this straight. Microsoft's compiler is the best out there. If you want 'RAD' with Win32 just use dialog and then export the code. I'll say again... Microsoft's compiler is the best out there.
Visual Studio is for the non-inspired programmers who want to make horrible code for horrible companies and don't plan on getting a bachelors or a masters. BCB is for people who get masters/PHD's and end up actually becoming programmers... Not just codemonkeys writing repetitive and useless code. Also, It is a very good thing to know both... But, as far as specialization and actual usage... BCB owns the crap out of anything from microsoft tbh.
I came here because I'm learning Jahshaka, but I have taken a couple programming classes... And I am positive that "high-energy" and "C++ builder" do not belong in the same sentence. =D
That's the kind of action they need to show when they show hackers creating solutions with in a couple of hours. "You can not shut down the real Napster"...
It's a shit!!! It doesn't work. Download the real C++ Builder!

visual basic was good
I can even say great for GUI's
but not that good unfortunatelly for writing code that does something effective and fast,
possible but not as easy as c++ fr example
a perfect language would be Visual python lol XD
of course without a widget toolkit and with a real compiler :P

Stick with Visual Studio if you want a job.

RAD studio is 100.1% better off than visual studio coz of its rich and fast VCL compared my microsoft's old, bogus and slow MFCs
jayx1y1x2y2 4 years ago 2
+1. I Think That Microsoft's Visual C++ is Much Buggy Than Borland's ... But... is Smaller.. :(

MFC is not that slow if you set the right compiler options

GUI code is noobish. even a balding 40 year old code monkey who wishes for the glory days of punch cards can figure that out through trial and error.
