I like the way that in this series the spirit of the original is there because of the love for the characters and the brilliant story telling. Even way back in the early 20th century, the author had no problem with such adaptations as he just wanted to be rid of Holmes et al so he could focus on more "serious" work. To him, Sherlock was a ball and chain or Frankensteinian monster who'd gotten out of his control. Someone once described the stories as "pure anesthesia", I agree totally.

oh my god, i LOVE this series!! keeps getting better and better, one of the best holmes adaptations that exists, the modern day setting - what a breath of fresh air, most of all, cumberbatches' sherlock is captivating, the chemistry with watson is just amazing, i think the part where sherlock was driven almost out of his mind was brilliantly acted

@PrincessXainelle i think its going to difficult to start the series 3 as benedict has hinted that he dies at the end of 3 rd ep from this season which is based on the final problem story in the books(in the book too sherlock dies). But conan doyle managed to bring sherlock back due to immense pressure from the fans hope the same thing happens here :)

I am hooked on this superb drama. I share the thoughts of others, shame there are only three episodes per season, but, I would settle for quality of quantity any day of the week. What bothers me more is that, with Freeman now cast as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, along with Cumberbatch as Smaug the Dragon, and as the new villain in Star Trek 2, these fine actors with have less and less time to commit to this show as they both go (deservedly) stratospheric. Enjoy it whilst it lasts Sherlock fans

@BrithishIsBetter639 Yep, it would appear so. Shooting starts any day now, with Benedict Cumberbatch as the main villain in, an as yet undisclosed role. He is also shooting the The Hobbit as he is Smaug the dragon AND The Necromancer, and has special dispensation from Peter Jackson to flit back and forth between the two projects. This is one busy dude.

Oh come on. I'm a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, have been since I was about seven, in fact I got into it watching the Granada series with Jeremy Brett, and I find Sherlock FANTASTIC. The way they've brought it up to date while still keeping in the spirit of the originals, giving the diehard fans something new to chew on while not alienating new viewers, the fantastic acting, I just... If this defacing I'd like to know what you call the RDJ films.

Why does the BBC insist on marketing this as Sherlock Holmes? I'm not disputing whether this series is any good but it is simply not Sherlock Holmes. If you want a real Holmes series, then watch the Jeremy Brett series or, even better, read some Canon Doyle. I hate it when companies like the BBC deface classic masterpieces just to get a few more viewers.

@EllaIsNerd None of the titles of this series is. They don't need to be, as they are modelled after some of the original stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. They are meant to be taken as hints for the fans so that they know which story has been reworked in the here and now. Also, they bring about new twists.
