  • "I'm afraid to have no fear." It's not drug related, it's about a spiritual journey; ie: meditation, astral projection. Eradicating fear and accepting love. I LOVE this movie :) Enlightening!

  • "I'll send you a fruitcake"

  • UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCOMFORTABLE

  • Burgess Meredith was the vioce of Puff, you Rocky fans know who that is,and no Puff the magic dragon wasn't getting high on the hunalee,he's every kid's imaginary friend/developing conscience helping them understand their emotions and trying to figure out the world around them.

  • i remember my dad showing me this when i was five.

the clouds always scared the shit out of me. they still do.

  • I'm crying really hard. My version of Puff was my teacher, who passed away a few months ago.

  • Puff needs to just start breathing fire! A few roasted sneezes and the rest will get the idea.

  • No they hit land dumby

  • 5:20 did puff get shot?

  • Man. This broke my heart when I was 5, it breaks my heart now. I miss you Grandpa. I miss you so much...

  • @1:06 LOL!

  • Is it just me or does anyone else think that this was about being high on drugs

  • I loved thismovie when i was a little girl! I wish i still had it to show my own daughter. I never understood it way back then as a 5year old, and watching it today brought back all those familiar little kid feelings :)

  • 03:16 is the best I've ever heard spoken by any tongue.

  • When I saw Puff in the water, I thought "Nessie".

  • I <3 this reminds me of when I was a kid :) so many fond memories

  • Thumbs up if the pirat scene made you cry. (where all just sweet and innocent at heart)

  • I'm a 19-year-old man, but my eyes are watering at the sight of Puff being miserable. :'-(

  • The star bit gets me every time. There is always someone who gets a perverted kick out of snuffing the light. Fortunaltely, there are always kind spirits willing to protect it.

  • ii've nevr wacthed this before byt it's awesome

  • Those clouds freaked me out when I was younger...Thanks for uploading!

  • But a backer...? Never XD

  • It's like Castaneda for children :D

    Peace

  • I'll be 30 in april. I'm a big dude. I cry everytime I see this. Thanks for posting.

  • I used to love this as a kid. I always wished it had a soundtrack. Would go right on my iPod.

  • Oh my God, how the hell did Kilroy get here?

  • I just turned 16, and I some of my earliest memories are of watching this on VHS, finding this was one of the best, if not the best birthday present i've ever had.

  • The best cartoon ever!! I love this! I remember watching it way back.. :)

  • @MorganNSwenson I think your an idiot. It could just be a NORMAL little kids cartoon for NORMAL little kids. Its not about drugs ok?

    @EvyGoesRawwr why? o.O

  • The sneezes sound Russian XD (Not being racist)

  • All I have to say is a simple thank you for allowing me to remember who I still am. I have got rid of so much, yet still dealing with the same old some old. I still have a lot of work to do but I know I will get past the "fear" and grow into ME. I so believe in Magic, in a young girls soul.

  • I just don't understand how this is a childrens cartoon...

  • I think the clouds represent the government looking down upon marijuana usage. Puff says "they're jealous because the stars can be a million times higher than they'll ever be". Puff also says that when the star dies, the clouds laugh. (Government enjoys putting a stop to weed) Pretty obvious stuff.

  • i cry every time i watch this its got an great messages and i cry at the end

  • I bet those living sneezes gave birth to the mucinex booger man. Also at 7:37 Puff does the 'horns high' \m/ \m/

  • From 5:27 to 6:01 always scared the krap out of me when I was a kid. Even after facing my fear countless times that scene became nothing when I watch it, but for some reason when I think about the scene I'm just as scared as I was when I was a kid

  • p.s ha ha I remember the clouds used to scare me

  • You are a legend for putting this up, such memories, really makes me miss being a kid

  • Every time i watched this movie i always cried when puff went back to his cave...But what was messed up was my mom use to play it just to see me cry cuz she thought it was cute.

  • @Superpepsiman20 I used to cry at the end too!! I was just thinking that I must've been the only kid that cried at the end of this movie, then I saw your post!! Anyway, I'm glad I was a child of the 70's. There were so many cool things for little kids back then......

  • from 8:53 to 9:05 puff looks like a dinosaur

  • omg jackie paper is autistic!!!!!! omg

  • @klaslo25 lol of course he is! this cartoon is so fantastic........

  • I still own the orginal VHS from when I was a kid. And when I get sick I curl up and watch it with a can of soup. Mom's cure for curing sneezes apprehently was jackie paper beating the sneezes

  • Any chance you can get The Land of the Living Lies in the best quality? cb82fan has it but the audio's coming in rather muddy and grainy

  • i used to watch this movie all the time!!! i work at an amusement park in kiddie land and they always play this theme song!

  • puff looks so pathetic towards the end lol. poor fella!

  • This was by far my favorite movie when I was younger and its just as awesome as I remember! Love it!

  • illuminatti!!

  • soo many good memories

  • this cartoon scares the hell out of me

  • Puff got fucked up

  • When I first saw this I remember crying when Puff told Jackie to go home. He was such a loving dragon up until the point he started to feel hopeless himself.

  • You were crying? You weren't there when I found this movie after 11 years of not seeing it!

I had to tell my relatives who came over that I had severe allergies! HAHA!

  • @MADDOG6400 i got this movie a month ago and already watchd it at lest 7 times its easyly 1 of the best storys you can findit has edvencher a few tears and great lesons to last a life time!thanks for uploading

  • @saur2244

I can honestly say that the ending is the MOST heart breaking. It's like Jackie knows he will NEVER see him again so he's going to have the best out of the last seconds he gets to see Puff.

  • @MADDOG6400 The Tree At 5:27 Actually Scares Me Because Of How It Looks When The Living Sneezes Are On It (Not When The Land Is Normal(Beautiful Flowers.etc)

  • @chaddy12gg You scare everybody Quime. I killed your family so they could escape your ugliness.

  • @jconifer7

I cried tooo! My mom said i couldn't watch it anymore becaue she thought at six years old i'd be suffering from depression! LOL

  • @jconifer7 ikr!!!!

  • It has to do with the lost of childhood.

  • i always thought it was to do with asthma cos i always called my inhalers puffs, and i was played the song as a went to sleep.

  • lol, ma teacher sed the song was a refrences to weed, which makes sence listning to the lyrics, but even if it is, its a great song and kids wont catch on.

  • Maybe you should have listened better to your teacher when she taught SPELLING.

  • yes, well there is a diffrence between typing and leaving a comment, and writing an exam.

Is that spelling upto your standards you fine Sir?

  • No.

  • Are you a pothead Focker?

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahhah!!

    i love that movie

(and the ignorants who put hotcarl a hands down haven´t seen the focker´s movie!! )

  • ILL DESTROY YOU! @ 1:06 is awesome.

  • Man, why did Peter, Paul and Mary make the ending of the song so sad. I mean, why couldn't they have written a verse where Jackie Paper comes back?

  • 8:49

    Aw puff :(

  • my dad used to tell me this story and sing me the song and i always cried but i always try to find old things that bring back memories thanks so much

  • It has been 20 years since I've seen this, wow!! Thanks for keeping my childhood memories alive!

  • Damn I havn't seen this in YEARS! I still have the VHS I got from Burger King back in the day. And the Ninja Turtles VHS's from Burger King too. Back in the 80's Burger King use to have VHS's with kids meals. DAMN I FEEL OLD LOL.

  • Haha, no kidding!! I have all four of the Ninja Turtles' VHS's that were given at Burger King back in 1990!!

At least our old days were some good days! I wouldn't trade those days for anything!!

  • Word, I wouldn't trade those days for ANYTHING. I only have 3 of those Ninja Turtles VHS's though.

Damn, we do sound old huh? lol.

  • Considering Fred Wolf did this and the Ninja Turtles cartoons there's a certain irony. BTW do you have his feature " The Mouse and his Child"?

  • @acholl980 More or less by the time they were doing TMNT, that sort of look or "House Style" that use to be the mainstay of Murakami-Wolf Films kinda faded away. By then it was just typical cartoon work.

  • @MADDOG6400

OMG! I have Two of the original VHS of Puff... I thought it was '89 it was given out.. :/

Wow I hate being old! lol, I'm glad I don't look like it. :D

I still have people say I look 19 or 20... I'm so happy.

  • @CrypticRick

The videotape might have been given out in 1989, but the cartoon was actually released in 1978.

I have people say I'm "old enough to drink." I'm only 18. Lol!

  • @ChuloBadGuy They did? Really???

  • Yea, they did....REALLY!

  • haaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahaha

  • @ChuloBadGuy Even one year later I still can't get over that! I used to get cassette tapes with my kid's meals, but never VHS tapes! (Or maybe I did once, but I just don't remember...)

  • @DisneyBlackJet

    lmao

  • hahahaha at 5:17. The dragon looks dead and the kid just yells "land hoe" haha. Those 3 seconds are hilarious.

  • omg yeah it is!!!!!! lol

  • yeah, and what makes it better is how the screen cuts off the dragons head. so it just adds to the scene.

  • haha yea

  • lol "I'll send you a fruitcake next Christmas!" Reminds me why I liked this movie as a kid.

  • who did the voice of puff? It sounds familiar

  • The Great Burgess Meredith. He played the Penguin in the 1960's Batman show and was in a few Twilight Zone episodes.

  • He was also the old coach in the "Rocky" movies of the 80s. His voice was perfect for Puff. It was so surreal and pure.

  • In fact the dragon is a characature of Burgess

  • Most of the cartoons I've seen tend to model the characters after the voice actors. They even use some of the facial expressions and gestures that the actors made during voice recording. I think it adds some dimension and life to the characters that they wouldn't have otherwise.

  • No, that's just a common belief that sprung from the (admittedly) easily misinterpreted lyrics.

  • No, but it was rumored that. It has nothing to do with drugs or weed.

  • It was NEVER about weed! It's a children's cartoon for crying out loud!!

  • Hey, don't go freaking out on me for telling what I was told. Besides, there have been a lot of drug and alchohol refferences in kids' cartoons from the 20th century.

  • @Ryuzaki492008 don't always believe what u hear-

  • @MADDOG6400 if it was intentional or not there are a lot of double meanings... kinda like alice and wonderland.... intentional or not u cant ignore the references and its just funny

  • @MADDOG6400 I agree. my teacher says it's about drugs, i privately disagreed with her. in my mind it about a dragon named puff.

  • @Jessica1983mr I love the cartoon, but how they can argue that it doesn't contain |)rug references is beyond me. Puff blows rings (his name is Puff!), Jackie Paper (begins with "J" for joint and is rolled with paper), Dragon comes from "draggin", aka smoking), Jackie pulls a mushroom out of his chest of drawers, and if you rearrange the letters of the magical land of Hanalei, you can spell "inhale". One of the cartoon's more subtle messages is substance abuse to escape your problems.

  • @seekingtruf: It doesnt spell inhale because using the way you spelled Hanalei, there is still an 'a' left over. And for crying out loud, ITS A CHILDS CARTOON, No one would put drug references in that.

  • @barrelroller655 Just because there's an A leftover doesn't mean that it doesn't spell inhale. The extra A is simply to make the word pronounceable....in English, we need vowels in between our consonant clusters. Yes, it's a child's cartoon, but it's produced by adults. Disney is run by adults for children, too, but there are many unfortunate things slipped in there as well. Innocent and fun for kids, yes, but laced with adult themes and innuendo, that's true too.

  • @seekingtruf Yea, but everyone thinks that about disney just because they want to annoy people. People misinterpret things and then do it to other things to just ruin a great movie. Yes, you think it has adult things because you are one of the trolls that just love to take things that mean one thing and make them mean another. And what do you mean 'In english'?? I SPEAK ENGLISH.

  • @barrelroller655 I'm a troll because I have a different opinion about a cartoon than you....hahahaha! Ok, I'm a troll. Not all languages need vowels written out like ours does (Arabic, for instance). My point was that the A was a necessary addition, as dictated by English language diction. The Disney innuendo isn't made up by people to annoy others. It's there. Stuff is spelled out....literally. This cartoon doesn't spell it out, but it leaves you with enough to seriously wonder.

  • @MADDOG6400 who said its waz about weed?!!??!?!?!?!??! if it was then i wldnt love th movie ):

  • @MADDOG6400 THANK you!!!!!!

  • @MADDOG6400 AGREED!!!! but it was kinda funny when they refered to it in meet the parents with ben stiller lol

  • @MADDOG6400 Ehh.... it was. But it just goes to show you, how a simple herb can inspire the greatest and most beautiful stories in history

  • @cholness7 It wasn't, but yes, I agree. Herb does one of the most AMAZING things towards your imagination! Much better than alcohol, that's for sure!

  • @MADDOG6400 It's about EVERYTHING you want to imagine it to be!

  • @MADDOG6400 uoir retarded it was made by hippis dumbass

XD annnddd heelllllooooo jackie paper ??? and for petes sake puff smoked a pipe in the begining sheesh not a big enough hint for you

  • @420dueonlinealltime i meant your

    XD

  • awsome XD

  • @MADDOG6400 sorry that was my bro he was angry and all and btw it actualy was true made by dopers if youd look

  • This is corny but has a great message.

  • Puff The Magic Dragon was actually a real song recorded by Peter, Paul, and Mary. Jackie Draper one actually follows the song more than The Land Of The Living Lies does. I think I like the Jackie Draper one a little bit better than The Land Of The Living Lies one. Jackie Draper is the one that really touched me as a kid. Well anyway, thanks again for uploading this. Well bye.

  • I remember seeing Puff The Magic Dragon as a little kid. I especially loved this one. For some reason, I thought there was a bad ending, but now that I watched it, I can see that there's no bad ending, in fact, it's a good ending. I was just thinking about Puff the other day and how I loved it as a kid and I thought to myself, "I'm gonna search for this on Youtube. Maybe someone uploaded it there," and sure enough, people have uploaded the Puff carrtoon. Well, thanks for doing so.

  • this part always makes me cry

    :`[

  • It's amazing, and to be honest, I don't think Jackie's Journey is a metaphor for religion or drugs. I actually think it's more a metaphor for retaining your innocence. For not looking at the world without color. For making sure you see the magic behind every moment, and to always believe in miracles.(Which as we know, are just another word for magic)

  • @dazedandawake That is what the original singers and writers of this song said it was about, and nothing else.

  • @dazedandawake That's what I always interpreted it as. Imagination and innocence.

  • whatta i look like a hic-up?! the living sneezes rock! LOL i love this movie! i havent seen it in years!! :]

  • Dang! It's been FOREVER since I saw this! The clouds scared the CRAP out of me! XD

  • My mom says that when I was very little, whenever the clouds came up, I hid behind the couch. I also feel a little jittery after seeing Honah Lee destroyed by the sneezes.

  • The pirate sounds alot like Paul Frees

  • No it isn't; it's Robert Ridgley

  • those clouds used to scare the shit out of me lol

  • I'm scared to have no fear!

  • WHAT SHOULD'VE BEEN SDAID AT 5:40:

Jackie: Hona Lee? But what happened to it? It's like we're in hell or something!

Puff: No, this is Hona Lee all right though I can't imagine HELL being much WORSE!

  • Wat?

  • It' a reference from back to the future part II

  • "No, it's 'Hil Valley' though I can't imagine HELL being much WORSE!"

  • Oops! I mean "Hill" Valley!

  • so sad.makes me cry

  • i love puff the magic dragon! im feeling nostalgic.

  • T_T Poor puff
