2 things during the edge retention test. it either 1: sucks, it took 16 whacks to cut the board the first time and then it took like 35 to cut the next or 2: the user got tired fast.
one thing ive noticed is they dont do baton testing with wood it all comes down to just swinging it.......maybe baton testing would be a good idea? also the old man did better at cutting than the first guy lol
Mabe not the flexing but my karbar I know for a fact can do all of this, not nocking cold steel but i mean come on there is a 100$+ diffrence in price.
hell yer that bowie is a $600 knife and my $30 martindale Paratrooper knife chops better ( It even chops better then my axes when im chopn down 8 inch trees.)
@Masterpivot292 - Because people use these knives as survival knives too. In that use you need to chop wood for firewood, building shelters, etc. It is nice to know the blade your life may depend on can handle the abuse.
@malice1488 it's not a mather of counting the cuts cause the wood splits ....if u'r out there in nature and you're cutting a piece of tree this big and it's spilts just like this , wouldn't u be happy it happend and that u don't need to use all ure energy on it anymore ? this knife is designed for chopping so that's exactly what it's doing in this video ....
I am a boy scout and in a camp I live with blades.... to cut wood i have a axe or i brake it with my leg, to cut meat i have my precious opinel (with it if u don't pay attention u can cut a finger very easily). easy men just half kg to do everything
@SleepingWolf26 Have you ever looked in to purchasing a custom made knife, or any knife of this caliber from another company? Cold Steel's products are a bargain for how much life you'll get out of them. If the price of a certain knife or sword is too much, I'm sure they have a slightly lower-end model that would fit your needs without sacrificing any usability or durability.
@SleepingWolf26 Speaking from a person who knows about them and other brands it seems that to me anyway they make the best bowie knives, though spyderco and other companies are preferred over their tacticals. There swords are over priced junk who have threaded handles which actually sword never have and have been reported to fall apart from several places as a threaded handle will loosen and the blade can go flying.
@SleepingWolf26 They're expensive if you buy them direct from Cold Steel, but you can find them cheaper on many websites like amazon, or even cold steel's 'special projects' page

Why? Just why would you even think of chopping a 2/4 with a knife.. That's what table saws or skill saws are used for.
I like these knives and stuff, but they're expensive.

maybe people don't understand the meaning of this test. the meaning was to check how strong is the blade and specialy the edge.
the fact than this knife can handle that much stress and the edge can stay sharp is really impressive.
