I thought so too. I have the Fame video which has the train sequence from Deadwater to Bellingham but the BFI DVD version is this one with the train sequence removed. I think your supposition is correct. Probably a good idea to do that at the time as rail closures were a rarity but over fifty years later we'd rather see the train on the wonderful Border Counties line - and in colour too!
This version differs from the version I have on tape. Before the Bellingham Show day sequence on my tape, the film features the Border Counties Railway. Was the film recut to replace this with bus scenes after the railway closed to passengers in 1956?
