Eddie who? While Eddie is a bad mofo,Michael Schenker is every bit as good and his sound is off the effin chain! These guitarist today wish they were half as talented as Mikey and Eddie. Thanks for the video!
Please name at least 1 - 2 current groups of hard rock "musicians" that come even close to this type of energy, sound, stage presence and talent.
No kiddies, Sipnut is not one of them.
UFO...simply one the best combinations of hard rock musicians ever assembled. Saw 'em twice in the 70's, opening for Rush and Triumph. And as recent as 2008 in San Diego where I had a chance to meet Mr. Mogg, Andy and Paul. Way cool mates and no rock star attitude.
Whats great about this is no big stage show, click tracks, backing tracks. Does not even look like they have stage monitors. This is way I have alway thought Schenker was amazing.
Saw Schenker live in '77 or '78, and this is how I remember him, exactly like this song, and he blew everyone in the croud clean out. Blew my mind completely, and to this day will never forget it. Little did I know he was only a year older than me, up the with U F O. The bitchin sound he gets outta that Gibson is nuthin short of unfukin real. This is one of my favorite Schenker kick ass moments.
Eddie Van Halen is a 5 trick pony. He stabs out nifty, shreddy phrases, tappy harmonic stuff, and lots of dive bombs & squeals.
Schenker's "trick" was that he had a corral of horses at his disposal. He packed wicked, walloping paragraphs, not just phrases, and with them, he filled pages upon pages.
Schenker is a phenomenal, melodic player do doubt. Great rhythm and lead player. That said, Eddie is one of the best rhythm guitarist to ever walk the planet. Though Eruption put him on the map, his rhythm tracks are what made him/make him great, not the dive bombs and squeals. Both great, definitely different. The good thing is we can listen to both or choose between them on any given day.
When Schenker left the band in 1977 for a few months, Eddie Van Halen was aware they were looking for replacement. He saw Mogg and Way in a bar in LA and was too afraid to ask for an audition because he didn't think he was good enough.
Now this is a seriously bad ass song. It's weird to me that a song like this isn't more famous. If Tarantino or someone stuck this in a movie everyone would be digging it.

Yes, Michael Schenker was 20 or so when this was taped. He was an awesome component. The important aspect now is that Phil Mogg just turned 60 and is still with the band, and they're touring the U.S. right now. I'll see them on May 3rd and will be honored as a result. What a legacy. Phil Mogg is an absolute god. No doubt.
the difference between schenker here and other new great guitarists? schenker is plugged straight into the amp. no echo no phase not even a whammy bar. just animal licks and speed. he actually has enough brains to end his solos and runs melodically, not with just with noodling around...
Schenker was 20 or 21 here and he was killer on guitar. While Van Halen was developing his chops I am sure he was studying schenker 'cause nobody, not even hendrix, was playing at such a blistering speed at the time.
My god. I've never heard anything like Schenker in his prime. My jaw drops every time I hear his fast runs. Its as if a gate opens and a flood rushes through. Keyboard is annoying, duplicating his runs, perhaps thats why he left? hehe.

Best UFO bootleg ever. Period, discussion over. I have the DVD (a mix of two 74 and 75 concerts) and it rocks.
