Hello ole friend, Wonderful Video. Have you had the chance to make the video yet on hand cutting dove tale joints? Ive tried it with very thin wood and thick wood too. I seem to have the very best luck with 2x4 size thickness wood Ha, ha. It is very forgiving and hides the mistakes very well.
Years ago (50's/60's) many kitchen cabinets did this method with drawers, works very well. My aunt in Chicago says her original cabinets are still in and like new and they have this system - locally made by a carpenter and installed when she bought the house around the time I was born, late 50's. The stuff a lot of cabinets use now are either too cheapo or too expensive if they are sturdy.
as to the space thing..yes you could get another drawer...but the design is what the client wanted ..as to where i bought it....Try Wal-Mart feel sure they have this type in stock..
Good trick Charles. It's true what you say. it isn't written in stone, that guides should be at the sides of drawers. However, you have almost one inch between each drawer. Aren't you wasting maybe 6" of space; enough for another drawer?
well I finished my armoire and I used the tip of the square pieces of wood and it worked perfectly. Perfectly square. it is 17" wide by 19" deep by 72" high. This week i'll finish it with two drawers I need and I'll use your drawer tip to build them and see how it works. I'll post a picture once I paint it.
Mr. Neil, your type of work is what makes me love working with wood. Lately I've been building cabinets and sliders for the inside full size for my home and I"ve learned so much from the videos here. But yours is the second video that really hit me hard, providing a new perspective on how to work, and opening the door for my own new ideas derived from learning from your video. Thanks!! I'm building another one this weekend and I'm going to try your style :).
Thanks for all the great info. One question... I really din not understand exactly how to build the drawer so it will fit on the guides. Can you email or show more detail on how you modified the bottom of the drawer to fit?

cool idea on the square up jig. I usually use stretchers on diags on big pcs, and screw them in or tac them. I have never been exposed to that.
Also, I see you dovetail your drawers, man, that must take some time, even with jigs. I really like how you do what you do. Thanks

Hi Charles:
