  • what are the words to this song??

  • @Charlotte2791 some of them died, some are alive, and others do sail the sea..

with the winds on our backs and the devil to pay, we lay at Findler's Green

  • @Charlotte2791 "The king and his men took the queen from her bed and bound her in her bones. The seas be ours and by the powers, where we will we'll roam. Yo ho, all hands. Hoist the colours high. Heavy ho, thieves and beggars never shall we die. (Then it says what lycan156 said)

  • The king and his men stole the queen from her bed and bound her in her bones, the seas be ours and by the powers where we will we'll roam. *(chorus here) Some have died and some are alive others sail on the sea with the keys to the cage and the Devil to pay we lay to fiddler's green, the bell has been raised from it's watery grave hear it's sepulchral tone a call to all pay heed the squall and turn your sails to home *(chorus)

*Posting Chorus in very next post*

  • *Chorus

Yo-ho all hands hoist the colors high heave-ho thieves and beggars never shall we die.

    Second time Chorus is sang:

Yo-ho haul together hoist the colors high heave-ho thieves and beggars never say we die.

Other versions use the chorus a little more than where I added it on here but if you go in order of the movie this is the exact lyrics they are singing from the little boy at the very opening to the group marching to the gallows to Elizabeth and then the Singapore pirate. =)

  • which part is this??

  • @MrsDhiyaana its the beginning of worlds end like the second scene

  • @friendofthejawas thanks!

  • thief and beggar, never shall we dieeeeeeeee

  • how thoughtfull of u! .. =p

  • I wonder if Keira REALLY sings this...probably does though...

  • Yes,it is Keira who sings. If you like the voice check out her clips from ''The edge of Love''

  • some have died and some are alive others sail on the sea with the keys to the cage, and the devil to pay we lay to fiddler's green. the bell has been raised from its watery grave hear its sepulchral tone a call to all pay heed the squall turn your sails to home. yo ho haul together hoist the colours high heave-ho "thief and beggar, never shall we die!" (-thieves and beggars, never shall we die.-)
  • the right lyrics ;D hope you enjoy

  • if u are refering to the asian dude at the end...

i think its just his accent

its "haul together" and "never shall we die"

    and "thieves and beggars"

  • sometimes its all hands and sometimes it haul together, it depends on wich verse it is!

i think "all" together is just someone who has got it wrong.

its "thieves and beggars". allthought that man at the end sings "thief and beggar" just cuz he means elizabeth.

just so you know, they havnt got the lyrics wrong

  • I think all things back then were personal interpretation because it was passed down through familys, through word of mouth

  • it's just the different verses that you catch them singing ^_^

  • Jesus christ people these are comments on a youtube video!!! Its not your English exam!! SO WHO CARES?

  • @MalfoysMistress08 um peoples care!

  • @MalfoysMistress08 : Besides, even from the linguistics standpoint, it's wrong. Language changes according to whether it's written or spoken, the community within which it is used, and a thousand other factors. Nothing funner than some asshole trying to proclaim the rules of his own little dialect to be universal.

  • @MalfoysMistress08 THANK U!!

  • @MalfoysMistress08 Because Grammar wasn't originally supposed to be cheated of it's fluency.

  • @IlGriMReaPeRzz Ye be a landlubber, pirates dont be usin good grammar! Oh also you capitalized Grammar, its the 2nd word in the sentence, you should of capitalized it, TROLOLOLOLOL

  • @Bladenavor AYEE AH FUKING NOE RAIGHT?

  • pirates don't be using good grammar

  • @clat1 Arrr! We pirates be having our own grammar!

  • @clat1 especially them asian ones.

  • I know this song by heart, including the part that they sing when the movie first starts.

  • Keira is not a bad singer at all.shes kinda good

  • why do people always go for someone's grammar did you ever think its not they're native language so why the fuck would they spek exactly like you? -.-

  • Accent is different than grammar. No one expects perfect pronunciation, but if you are going to speak, or in this case type English, please don't make up words. Its really not that hard, especially with spell-check.

  • what does the song actually mean?

  • The first part is about Calypso, I reckon. This part, which Elizabeth sings, mentions Fiddler's Green, which I believe is the sailor's afterlife.

  • Ho! I was thinking that it was Jack who walk across the bridge (when the firework explode). But now I remember that in that part of the movie, he still is "dead" ^^

    ----

sorry for my bad english writing :S

  • ha ha ha yes, I thought it too!!

  • OH the asian man is so funny , trying to be scary

  • Oh sorry. Wrong information. It's her real voice. Mrs. Zimmer sings the voice of boy in the gallows.

  • It's not Keira's real voice. It's singed by Hans Zimmer's wife. And I know this because that is telled in one of the PotC 3's extras.

  • please learn proper grammer singed and telled are not words.

  • Besides my other comment, I don't assume people are foreign when they don't use proper grammar; I assume they are uneducated thirteen year olds who are too lazy to give the effort.

  • ... and THAT is why you fail ... :)

  • Really. And exactly what is wrong with what I said? Make a valid argument or you sound that way too. Is it that hard to use the spelling and grammar check built into almost every browser? Even if you don't know English very well, or don't have time to write it properly, it takes mere seconds to use the spell check.

  • Heh. If you are going to harp on people for their grammer you should correct yours first.

  • I'm sorry, I don't see my error. In any case you are missing my point. I wasn't saying grammar had to be perfect, just that its annoying when people don't put any effort into even trying to make sense.

  • You started a sentence with and. P.S. I didn't miss your point. I just found it amusing to mention that little tidbit. I happen to agree with you that it's annoying when people spell atrociously, and ignore even the basics of gramatical structure.

  • I'm glad you got my point; I was in far too serious a mood when I wrote those comments. Good catch, but its no longer considered improper to start a sentence with a conjunction, though that is likely a concession to lower levels of education. Good sailing all

  • oh, give me a break. It was just a quote from Star wars that I felt was quite appropriate in this context.

  • I just love Elisabeth Swan!

  • is she really singing this? i like it

  • I don't think so

  • where i can found the fullsong this part and th first one

    you know??

  • not on the movie soundtrack. maybe someone will remix it.

  • acctually its:

    Some men have died

    and some are alive

and others sail on the sea

with the keys to the cage...

    and the Devil to pay

    we lay to Fiddler's Green!

  • The bell has been raised from it's watery grave... Do you hear it's sepulchral tone? We are a call to all, pay head the squall and turn your sail toward home! Yo ho haul together, hoist the colors high. Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die. But i understand it is hard to hear her :)

  • Okay. He says "Never say we die" but in the beginning the kid says "never shall we die" Or am I just hearing it wrong?

  • well,, idr if the kid says never shall,

but its supposed to be "never say we die"

    :D

  • I noticed :P XD =D

  • no its supposed to say shall. he just has this creepy accent.

  • He actually does say "never SHALL we die". I have seen it with captions.

  • the chinese man says "never shall we die" he just have an accent

  • not from china... singapore

  • That's where the other two verses went! I found the lyrics and then could never find the music where they're sung. Thanks!

  • its not more complete, its just the other part of it

  • no, one is the english way to spell it and the other is the american way.

  • The lyrics (and comments) start from the bottom up.

  • Some men have died and some are alive and others sail on the sea -- with the keys to the cage...

and the Devil to pay we lay to Fiddler's Green!

The bell has been raised from it's watery grave...

Do you hear it's sepulchral tone?

We are a call to all, pay head the squall and turn your sail toward home!

Yo, ho, haul together, hoist the colors high.

Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die.

Those are all of the lyrics that I know of.

  • Some have died and some are alive and others sail on the sea. With the keys to the cage

and the Devil to pay we lay to Fiddler's Green! The bell has been raised from it's watery grave. Hear it's sepruchal (sp?) tone?

A call to all, pay head the squall; turn your sail to home! Yo, ho, haul together, hoist the colors high. Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die.

  • Yo, ho, haul together, hoist the colors high.

Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die.

The king and his men stole the queen from her bed and bound her in her Bones.

The seas be ours and by the powers where we will we'll roam.

Yo, ho, haul together, hoist the colors high.

Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die.

  • that guy at the end startled me, lol

  • this is my fav video in the movie...

  • that is a good video

  • Elizabeth singing a seemingly more complete version of Hoist the Colors.

wrong, she's singing the second part of the song, the people being executed were singing the first part

  • its either colors or colours...

  • they are both the same except one is the canadian way to spell it and the other is the american way...

  • One has to be english!

  • yes the canadian is also the english

  • colours is british english and colors is american.

  • Originally colours was the Cambridge standard and colors was the Oxford one. The same with ise v ize.

Cambridge standard got adopted in Britain whilst Oxford caught on in the US.

  • some men live and some are dead

and others sail on the sea

with the keys to the cage
