@fiish2 Yes I know. I have tweaked every setting on every "pipe" on my Hauptwerk setup and it took weeks but people that hear recordings of it, don't realise it could possibly be not a real pipe organ.
Have you tried Hauptwerk virtual organ? They have recently released Salisbury Cathedral organ which is brilliant and does not sound electronic, which with respect yours does. Keep up the work but it would be so much better if you used Hauptwerk. I have it on my PC and have made recordings, my organ tutor who is a traditionalist could not believe it was not the real thing till I demonstrated it to him.
We're actually planning on switching over to Hauptwerk as soon as they release the plug-in version for macs (supposed to be coming out some time this year) Love the huge sound of the Notre Dame de Metz organ but the new Salisbury Cathedral organ may actually be better for what we record. Sounds great... thanks for recommending it!
Love the sound quality. I agree with the person below who suggested re-recording with a more interesting arrangement. I was raised on the "Hymns for Church & School" rather than "Hymns Ancient & Modern Revised" but both were more interesting than this arrangement even though this was beautifully played and recorded.
I grew up in the Canadian Anglican Church, a descendant of the Church of England. It is rich in heritage and I sang in choir to an organ much like this. Thanks for taking me back
I'd like to suggest that you record this again, but the next time try the Thalben-Ball arrangement from Hymns Ancient and Modern revised. It's full of suspensions and passing tones that really enrich the harmony. Also, if you could vary the registration a bit, it would improve the sound. Also try varying the dynamics more so that there is more tension than what you have now. Good luck
Great comment! We're pretty much just scratching the surface in many areas. As we develop our service over the next couple of years you'll see radical improvements in the quality of performance, recording, and the instrument itself. Should be fun!
Forgot to mention that we'll never play around with registrations a lot because our focus will always be on the singing rather than the organ performance. It can be a bit distracting and self-indulgent when organists do that.
@meknight77 Can't disagree as long as changing registrations contributes to the musical experience not detracts from it, but it's not the way that we want to go for our specific purposes.
@meknight77 I completely agree. I've been irked year after year when the music for Away in a Manger and Silent Night have always been belted out. It may also be because very few churches have well-trained choirs which know how to obtain different tonalities and colours for the music.
@StevenBlakemore1994 I hardly think the music would necessarily have to go just because the religion got dumped; depending on whether it is Muslims doing the dumping.
Sorry for any confusion caused...we'd just delete some of the comments, not the video :)
We usually get really great comments and have only had to delete about three in the past year (pretty amazing considering our videos have gotten over half a million plays so far!)
Thank you for posting this glorious piece of music. I hope you don't have to remove the thread and that people of all (or no) beliefs can respect your wish to talk about the music. IMO, there's nothing quite like Jerusalem played specifically on pipe organ; it has such a haunting and majestic feel to it. I think it sums up England perfectly and reflects upon our industry, hardships and lasting kinships whilst leaving us with the overriding sense of hope for a better future.
I fear the same is happening in America, The non-believers are hurting the rest of us. I love this version. I do have a weakness for massive pipe organs. I cant play but I do appreciate good music.
Just a heads up that there are great channels on YouTube for discussing social, political, and religious issues but we try to limit discussion here to musical topics.
If this thread starts to spiral downward we'll delete it.

Any organist worth their salt uses changes in registration to better enable the singing.
There is nothing worse that an organist who sticks to loud all the way through - especially when singing something like Away in a Manger for example!

@meknight77 - Indeed, it always irks me that people have no idea that Away in a Manger and Silent Night are lullabies, meant to be sung delicately.
