I've been on I-75 through Atlanta four times, only once during the day (twice in the middle of the night, once in the late evening). Maybe all the SB traffic south of Atlanta was heading to Florida for spring break :)
I had just been on that stretch heading northbound the day before you filmed this.
I LIVE IN ATLANTA,IT'S NOT AS BAD AS YOU THINK. AFTER ALL WE HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF PEAPLE THAT HAVE RELOCATED HERE. AND THEY BRING THIER DRIVING HABITS WITH THEM.
Really like these video clips of driving on the Interstates. One I got to see which I did was going south on I-15 to Las Vegas coming from Mesquite right after sun down. It is spectacular! Nothing at first but going through the desert. Then after 50 miles, you see a sign saying Las Vegas 19 miles. Then going one mile and your going over a hill. Wow. All the sudden the entire skyline of Las Vegas pops out before your very eyes after driving through the open desert. Make that vid, freewayjim!!
There must be a completely repressed deeply hidden fear of a crash when riding in a car like this on the highway which may explain my total relaxation is sitting back and watching this. Or maybe it's just the great music. Ha ha
Someone I showed this clip to thinks you were on a motorcycle because of the way you deftly merged through traffic. I think you were in a car. Set me straight?! Thanks. Still watching it!
Btw, I posted this clip on Twitter today, for MusicMonday, so my followers could enjoy it as well. It's also on my Facebook and MySpace page. Good job!
BRILLIANT! I love this song anyway, but something about pairing it with driving like a bat out of hell on the freeway is fascinating! I wish this could be done in DC or LA, but it wouldn't work with gridlocked traffic would it? How about a cross-country trip in the US? Or the Autobahn in Germany? Keep 'em coming!
God, the Leisure Laners... Here in the northeast, it's usually cars with Ohio plates or New Jersey plates sitting in the left lane for no good reason.
Any plans to visit my neck of the woods, the glorious New York Metroplex? Someone needs to show off the most miserable highway on Earth, the Cross-Bronx Expressway!
Huzzah! If you manage to get everything, which would be quite the feat considering there are 17 expressways representing 10 interstates within the city limits alone, I shall be both impressed and greatly concerned for your sanity. Especially if you do the whole length of I-278 in one shot, a feat no human will attempt.
75 North near Delk Road (well, actually, throughout the Marietta city limits) is probably the worst stretch of highway I've ever been through during rush hour. It's the widest stretch of road in the world (17 or 18 lanes now at Delk Road exit, I believe) and sometimes traffic is STILL at a dead stop.
No way!! At about 7:20 you end up behind a Honda that looks JUST like mine, and I'm on I75 almost every day!! I can't get a good enough look at the plates to be 100%, but small world if it is!!
I really liked your video. Youtube can be a great asset for you. If you need any help getting your video exposed i use a site called Tubeviews . Net It has really done wonders for me, Keep in touch
freewayjim, you need to hit up houston texas katy freeway west of downtown again,, major improvements ,, check my channel for videos .. but i wanna see you do it . i like your editing . good job
for how many miles will this 23 lane freeway project be ? .... because if this is true i think it would be the widest freeway in the country .. the katy freeway east from 610 i think is about 18 lanes including 2 hov each direction and about 7 regular lanes for a good 15 miles
gonna be adding a i-610 complete loop video within a week or so in 3 parts so check it out ,, will re-film when they through with construction on the northeast loop
It would be for 9 Miles: From I-575/I-75 at Exit 268 to I-285 at Exit 259. It would include Truck lanes, HOT Lanes and regular lanes from what I understand, I'll have to dig out the article.
widen that freeway to 23 lanes at 7:43 .. i seriously doubt that , what for there is no need you smotth sailing like you said, unless georgia wants to waste there tax payers money ,, im glad i dont live there
From what I understand the 23 lanes project would be financed privately and there would be tolls so no (or very little) taxpayer Money would be involved)
Has Atlanta ever thought about building a highway northwest out of downtown running south of I-75? Atlanta needs more highways not bigger ones don't they? Minneapolis has more and its half of the population.
Although it does make for some awesome timelapse drives!
The Northern Arc (a limited access road) was supposed to loop between SR 20 around Cartersville (GA) and end at I-85 near the Mall of Georgia, if memory serves. But that idea is pretty much dead.
New roads are a hard sell here, the Outer Perimeter & Northern Arc were killed due to the fear of sprawl & development run amok, like it hasn't anyway.
Well, the portion north of Barrett Pkwy., leading into Cherokee and Bartow counties, has been under construction for awhile. Like Jim said, though, most of the stuff is pretty much in talks right now.
Yes, that portion of I-75 (north of the Chattahoochee River) is especially bad. Most of I-75 in Metro Atlanta is bad, but that portion is about the worst.
Honestly, I live in downstate Illinois, where a "traffic jam" consists of ten cars stopped at a traffic light, so it would be hard for me to imagine a road 23 lanes in width.
Wow, I cant even imagine what a madhouse that would be! When the DOT widened I-65 northbound in Indianapolis, They couldnt make space for the intersection just south of it, and the entire metro interstate loop essentially emptied out and shut down. Good luck making 23 lanes, Atlanta DOT! Love your videos, I feel like I'm actually there, The video kind of sucked me in! Great job, 5/5!
When I can't afford to travel, but yearn for the road,I turn to these videos. Thanks Freeway Jim.

Basically they widened the shoulders and put a sweet, silky smooth concrete surface in.
Freewayjim 2 years ago
Oh, okay. I've not been up there in about a year or so.
When I was up there, I was coming back from Rome and traffic was a bear. The guide signs read, "Next 10 miles - 20 minutes."
Bryant5493 2 years ago
Nice video, Jim. Although the video is sped up, traffic on Metro Atlanta freeways is still as crazy as depicted (lol).
Bryant5493 2 years ago
Thanks, yes, more crazy than usual and that's saying something.
Freewayjim 2 years ago
23 lanes of I-75 needed? Is traffic really that bad?
AaronApolloCamp 2 years ago
That includes dedicated Truck Lanes and HOT lanes (Toll Lanes), yes it would not hurt.

Can you imagine what the DOT will have to do to the Cobb Cloverleaf to accommodate 23 lanes coming in from the north? wow!
Freewayjim 2 years ago
Super Cobb Cloberleaf, anybody?
Honestly, I live in downstate Illinois, where a "traffic jam" consists of ten cars stopped at a traffic light, so it would be hard for me to imagine a road 23 lanes in width.

Bryant5493 2 years ago
The Cobb Cloverleaf would probably have to be reconstructed. Another traffic headache. But that's progress, I guess.
Bryant5493 2 years ago
23 Lanes!? Now that's just crazy! Shows how bad traffic is in Atlanta.
