  • Thanks for this very informative video. Regarding buying Boca burgers, however: just to be the Devil's advocate, I don't see anything wrong with buying veggie burgers from a meat company. After all, grocery stores sell meat too so every time you get groceries, you are also supporting a company that sells meat.

  • @mokkshaa true, but there are other brands that make veggie burgers that aren't owned by meat companies like gardein....lets support ethical companies when we can. Also, I believe in eating whole foods and making your own food just so you can control what you are eating, plus its better for your health...but of course that's a choice everyone has to make for themselves. every little bit we can do to fight large, faceless corporations the better.

  • I wish food was cheaper here. I live in Canada and everything is much more expensive. I've been to the States and many material products as well as produce is at least a good three dollars cheaper in most cases.

Also, this video was posted on my birthday. :)

  • my mom and i talk about that all the time. About the fact that you pay more for healthy food , but you pay less for healthcare.

thats pretty cool you and your husband are artists.

My husband and I are both artists as well.

Very cool to see quality people in the world.

    Very cool video.

  • Great video! I'm trying to get away from the pre packaged stuff just a bit more and eat more fresh fruits and veggies. Sometimes I'm just in a hurry and like to eat something fast so I can get back to what I was doing before so I admit I'm guility of supporting Boca and Morning Star products. I only eat a few Morning Star items though now since some of their stuff contains dairy but I need more fruits and veggies.

  • @MrZombieIsHungry That's great to hear you want to get away from the prepackaged stuff. I find if you cook things up ahead of time (like beans) you can throw together super quick, and healthy meals. Also, salads are the ultimate quick and healthy meal to throw together. I love to add fruit for natural sweetness. I don't need as much salad dressing that way either. You should make your own seitan...its a cheap, vegan fake meat I make when I get cravings for those products.

  • I was a junk food vegetarian for years, now I'm eating as close to raw as I can. Don't eat the soy products and I would avoid wheat products as well. Gluten is not good for anyone. I'm not concerned with saving money anymore. One night on the hospital ~ $2,000. I'd rather put that money into good quality foods that taste good and are healthy. I only eat dry beans that are edible raw; lentils, garbanzos, split peas, etc. Avoid kidneys, pintos, white and black beans. EAT MORE FRUIT!!!!!!

  • @1imesub I think people who can go raw vegan are amazing...I'm not quite at that point in my life. I'm cooking for my husband as well as for myself. But I do like to limit my gluten, soy, and I don't eat that many kidney/pinto/black/white beans. I mostly eat chickpeas and lentils, yum! I've been eating a lot more fruit lately, it makes me feel wonderful and satisfied. I always crave pineapple and raspberries!

  • @veggiebeauty Another thing many people don't think about is the effects processed foods have on your teeth. Back when I ate a lot of veggie burgers, soy milk, wheat bread, noodles, bagels, clif bars and vegan desserts, it seemed like I had cavities nearly every time I went to the dentist. Since eating ~85% raw, I haven't had any. Ripe bananas are a great source of nourishment and are relatively cheap. You can also freeze them and make smoothies which is also both affordable and nutritious.

  • Can you do a video showing how to prepare beans from a bag? It really intimidates me for some reason but I love black beans! and saving money! Thanks!

  • @DaffQuack great idea! I will add that to my video list:) I make them frequently and it is super easy, especially if you get a crockpot (which I highly recommend). I will explain how do it the old school, boiling in a pot and the crockpot method. Keep an eye out for when I post it!

  • Great info Kristy. Growing up, my mother had a garden and saved our large family lots of money. We would can vegetables, pickles, tomato juice, jams. I remember shelling huge amounts of peas (and eating half of them). She would even sell strawberries and raspberries for extra money. Now, I live in a community that has a great farmer's market and CSA program. There are also plots that you can purchase for planting your own garden. Some apartments even have gardens for their tenants.

  • @belladios I hope in the next place we live, we will have access to a space to grow veggies, or at least I decent sized patio so I can grow some herbs and smaller plants. I think that's great that your community has all of those options, it would be worth the money to purchase land for gardening, as you can save a ton of money and have organic fresh veggies.

  • There was an article today from the writers of "Eat This, Not That" (Men's Health Magazine) which talked about the most nutritious whole foods. They were not all vegan/vegetarian suggestions, but the information on the produce was interesting regarding how much of the daily "dose" you get from the veggies/fruits.

  • @janciepants I'm curious, did they cite their sources? I'm reading The China Study, and its shocking the correlation between animal protein intake and the chances of cancer increasing. I tend to doubt any articles that suggest that animal products are some of the healthiest foods...especially since many of them are filled with chemicals, hormones, ecoli, and antibiotics. It is very interesting learning about what plant based foods can do for your body, definitely!

  • Ppl are short sighted when it comes to cost. Ppl look at the initial cost in dollar form. Its true that food can be used as medicine in the sense that we need to eat, and should go for nourishment over "satisfaction." Society today puts a bigger stamp on enjoyment and convienance. All in all life is more satisfying making better choices for ourselves and others. Plus vegan food can be great as well as nutritious. I have been watching Liferegenerator. He is a raw vegan and shows food as medicine.

  • @cosmeticcouturier food is the best medicine...and people need to focus on prevention rather than finding cures. Its amazing, diets low in animal protein (according to The China Study) have extremely low risk of developing cancer as opposed to those who ingest the average amount of dairy and meat protein that the western diet consumes daily. He went so far as to say cancer could turn on and off by eating a low animal protein diet combined with a healthy plant based diet.

  • @veggiebeauty Its funny that a lot of diets suggest more plant based solutions. A lot of ppl have been telling me I am going to die w/o dairy, and whats so bad about dairy? Or why do you want to starve so some cows can live. LOL. Ppl really think they need meat and dairy to live. Yes dairy has calcium. So does Almond Milk, and plenty of other things. Yes a hamburger has protein. So do nuts. Ppl are under the assumption vegans are afraid of food and spastic about disease. Not the case.

  • Sorry about all the comments, but this is a very interesting video, LOVE IT... I was trying to do marketing analysis on some veg products and companies (morning star is owned by Kellogg and Boca is owned by Kraft sooo not a fan) they literally don’t give a crap it’s just about making money not really that they believe in the whole veg thing

  • @VeganEveryDay exactly! I was doing research into those products, found that out, and I was like...they don't care about vegan nutrition. And the $ I give them goes back to their meat, ick. I love making my own and saving money (they taste better too!)

  • also found that going to the authentic store cheaper (tofu, soy sauce and stuff are much cheaper at Asian stores. Grains tahini and similar stuff are much cheaper at Mediterranean stores) and you are right about the processed stuff, it’s great for the transition but you can’t rely on them. Also making things from scratch is much cheaper just like you said Ex a tiny tub of good hummus is about 4.99 and you can make a huge thing at home for the fraction of the price.

  • @VeganEveryDay I wish we had more speciality stores:/ In my husband's parents home town they have this Indian grocery store with bulk spices for super cheap. I got a huge bag of garam marsala for about $3!!!! I love making things from scratch too...you can control the flavor and nutrition. I wish I could find the blade for my food processer, its easier to make hummus in that in my blender. ALDI hummus is so cheap, its $1.99 for a good size tub.

  • Thanks for the great video, you are absolutely right, people forget about the bill that comes attached to eating bad unhealthy food it ends up being more expensive it’s about looking at the whole picture. I do pretty much everything you do, shop around, use deals and coupons. Stock up on dried stuff and frozen veggies and fruits when they are on sale. I stock up on household cleaners during earth week ads lots of deals. I try to go to the farmers market as often as I could.

  • Ps: I have some great books. That I might do a vlog on in the future if I can get around to even dusting them off. Sharing a kitchen with family and having a weird work schedule makes it hard for me to even enjoy cooking, but on my days off. I'm working nights all this next week so no dinner plans :/ I actually have a lot to eat at work 'cause they can't use real butter and very little spice. So I'm very lucky. I also use Deva tiny mulitvitamins and just got their all in one calcium supplement.

  • @RoseWhiteRoseRed I'd love to hear about more vegan books. i wish I had more $, I'd be buying vegan books right and left. I was eyeing some cookbooks on amazon.com tonight lol:) I'm weird, but I love cookbooks!

  • @veggiebeauty

I only have 2 currently, but I will be buying more in the future. I just have to check out the stuff in the ones I already have. I reallllllly want Veganomicon because I hear it's wonderful. I have Vegan Soul Cooking and Vegan on the Cheap or something like that.

  • @RoseWhiteRoseRed I'd be very interested in reviews on both, especially the soul food one! I'd love to make more soul food:)

  • @veggiebeauty

Well it only makes sense there would be a vegan soul food cooking book when greens are involved hahaha. I can't wait to take a peak either. I need to make a video for a less processed version of my collard and greens fast mix. It's a can of Progresso Lentil Soup a can of any kind of greens, a ton of Earth Balance, and Bacos atop a baked potato. Even my red-meat loving family was into it. Still wanna' test your Stroganoff recipe on them :)

  • I've been thinking about making my own seitan before because I do like using the chicken strips. I had no idea that Boca and Morning Star were owned by meat companies, but wouldn't that be convenient. I use alot of frozen veggies and there's nothing wrong with that. I like to get my produce mostly from Lowe's food which gets their fruit from Mexico (I live in New Mexico). I can't make it to farmer's market's because of work, but I plan to change that. I know I have some bad habits. :/

  • @RoseWhiteRoseRed I like frozen veggies too....they are definitely a good item to have on hand. Just do the best you can, its not about being perfect. I'm breaking bad habits, and it does take time. I'm no where near perfect, but I set small goals for myself and then I feel good when I can accomplish those.

  • wonderful, informative video!

  • Thanks for all of the tips! This was super helpful.

  • @audreana1234 :) I'm glad I was able to help!

  • You look great!! I can tell you're continuing to lose weight, you look awesome! xoxo

  • @linds1986 thanks for the support lindsey! I'm feeling great and the pounds keep dropping, I love it!

  • @veggiebeauty I agree - you're looking great!

  • @linds1986 Totally agree, I've been noticing that :) she looks great

  • and I love your shirt...best. movie. ever :)

  • @courtneytherunner13 I agree, it was the first movie I ever owned when I was a kid:) Ariel is my favorite Disney Princess!

  • yay!!! thank you for doing this!!!! you're the best!

  • @courtneytherunner13 of course! Anything I can do to make it easier for vegans is what I aim to do! Its just takes some planning, but eating a healthy vegan diet is so worth it!
