My guess is that there are many different timelines and the shroobs interfered with what would be baby Mario and baby luigis regular life so that the new past remained in the past while the adult Mario and Luigi remained ignorant. Basically an alternate timeline and/or universe

My question is that how come the older brothers can't remember this at all. The shroobs didn't go through the time hole to get to the past, so how is it that they can't remeber what happened as a baby in the present? Then also ask that if the could remember, which they should, why did peach go back into the past, knowing of the Shroob invasion?

@Mhictthescout You make a very good point there. . . There does seem to be quite a few plotholes. The only reason I can think of is that Mario, Luigi, and Peach were too young to remember the whole thing. Then again, Toadsworth would have remembered so he would have insisted on Peach not going. Also, if the "future" Mario and Luigi exist, how were the Shroobs defeated in the past without future M&L's help? This "time rip" seems to hint that future M&L weren't there to help their past selves.

@Mhictthescout The US government erased their minds! Seriously, though, if they had remembered about the Shroob invasion, then Peach wouldn't have gone to the past. Also, Mario and Luigi wouldn't have teamed up with their baby selves to save her and the kingdom in the past, therefore making the present-day kingdom infested by Shroobs, and the universe would go KABLOOEY! So my guess is that it's a deliberate plot hole.

@Mhictthescout Well,it is possible that because Mario and Luigi hadn't lived long enough to reach the point where they went back in time yet,they would have no knowledge they did this at all,yet they would end up doing it in the future.As for Peach...US government.

I think its just the baby controls which makes you think its hard, plus when you use it when the Mario Bros. old and young, a baby would get on the shell so you would use X/Y to deal X-tra damage.
