I have encountered wild monkey's once, in Gibraltar, and they were very well mannered. Saying that though, I can imagine them getting a little tiresome if I had to live with them my whole life.

i live in a country where there are no monkeys. they seem very majestic and unusual to me. when i think of "pests" i think of rabbits and kangaroos,cane toads and dingoes. i just never considered that in some parts of the world Monkeys would actually be considered pests!

yes, but those are the wild kangaroos. the farmed kangaroos are kept secure with high fences so don't do any damage to the vegetation. and not all, if even many, farmers hate them. most keep to themselves or otherwise provide a terrific tourist attraction for those looking to make a small profit on the side. plus many enjoy the quality of their fur and other products made from the kangaroo.

and sorry to have to argue (i just can't help it) but i seem to recall that skippy was the complete opposite of useless. wasn't he able to tell the humans every episode exactly who was in danger, how they were in danger and where they were in danger, even though he couldn't speak?? haha! and he even used to use his strangely stiff and unattached paw to dial the emergency numbers and get help. skippy was cool! hahaha!

my grandad and his neighbouring farm owners for example. they've never had a problem with the large kangaroo popluation living on their lands and the only time i've ever heard of them causing damage is the one that smashed the headlights when it got hit by a car and one getting into the house and rummaging through the pantries. hmm...lucky you gets another two replies! :P

you're right, i don't have widespread statistics but i do know that the town my grandparents are from made the decision to stop shooting the kangaroos from habit of them being considered pests b/c in actual fact the damage they did was little and rare + they brought the tourists. so i wasn't only thinking of one example when i made that general statement.
